Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead"
This was such a good book! It was a quick read and had a great twist!
I really liked how it was dual POV but the 2nd POV was anonymous until the end. It was interesting trying to figure out which character was the second POV. Especially because some of the other characters had motives as well. It was definitely not who I expected!
I feel like I read books differently as a mom now lol. I could definitely relate to Claire and how badly she wanted to get home safe to her children. That tore at me the whole time I was reading.
The only thing I would have liked better, was to see the story from Noah's POV. That would be interesting!
I would definitely reccomend this!

𝟲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, 𝟲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝟲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗻. 𝟲𝟲𝟲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗹…
6 people start off on a journey to a friends/partners getaway for fun and relaxing away from their children and work lives but it was anything but that. After their minivan breaks down, they have no choice but to hike their way to the resort, but the woods aren’t that easy to navigate as they thought. Hours later and they are lost. As they get lost further and further into the woods, people in their party are hunted down one by one…is it a wild animal or is someone hunting them?
what a wild ride that was, very fast paced and I couldn’t put it down. Throughly enjoyed this one and for once, I didn’t figure out the ending about half way through😂 I really liked the pacing of this book, it started off a little bit slow but then the pedal was to the metal and we were all in. I loved how the chapters alternated between Claire and Anonymous as it broke up the story and helped provide a backstory for this mystery person without giving too much away.
However, I did find Claire so annoying and whiny, like girl shut up for a minute😂 loved all the other characters and how the book kept me guessing, I was just as much in the dark as the characters.
It was a thrilling read but an easy one, it didn’t require that much brain power which we love. If you’re looking for a fast paced, thriller which doesn’t need you to work out any clues….this is the book for you. I feel like Freidas books are very easy reads and this was one of them. Even better, this is currently on KU and is in the works at the moment for £2.50🥹
thank you to @netgalley and @poisonedpenpress for providing me with a copy of One by One in return for my honest review.

Claire hates her husband; harsh, but he hates her as well. The last thing they want to do is go on a vacation with their four friends to a luxurious cabin in the wilderness, but it is already booked so they feel like they have to. On the way there, their van breaks down so the six of them decide to head out into the forest on foot to the cabin. It's only a mile away so it should be no big deal, right? The problem is, they get lost on the way. As they spend days in the forest searching for the cabin, things start taking them out one by one. Claire can't decide if something or someone in their group didn't come on this trip with the best intentions.
I am relatively new to the world of Freida McFadden and I could not put this book down. It hooked me from the first chapter. I loved how no one was quite as they seemed and the twist had my jaw on the floor! If you are looking for a quick read that will keep you highly entertained, I recommend this.

This was so dang good I zoomed through it. Literally started it last night at like 6 PM and just finished it. It kept me guessing and flipping pages and the suspense was so good. The setting was eerie and even the characters spooky. Probably one of my fave Frieda books!

This book starts off full of suspense, mystery, and drama. Six friends cram into a minivan for a relaxing week at a luxurious resort tucked away in the woods. One by One things start to go wrong. When the van breaks down you know the horrors are about to begin. Claire should’ve listened to her daughter’s premonition about the monsters in the woods. One by One they will disappear or die, who will make it out alive, what monster lurks in the woods and who can be trusted?
This book was a quick and easy read with plenty of mystery. There are two points of view in this story, Claire’s and Anonymous. The stories by Anonymous adds suspense and a good switch up from the woods adventures. You will go back and forth between characters in your attempt to guess who “Anonymous” is. Just when you think you have it figured out, guess again!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨✨
✨This book is mainly told through the perspective of Claire, a special education teacher and mother of two, who is in an unhappy marriage with her husband, Noah.
✨ In addition to Claire’s chapters, “Anonymous” is the secondary narrator. Anonymous’s chapters were quite chilling - Anonymous’ flashbacks of their mother may be the scariest parts of the book!
✨ I was trying to guess who the killer was from almost the first page (having read the synopsis). There are clearly a lot of secrets and potential bad motivations set up where you could believe it’s any one of the group - even before the first person dies. It continued to keep me guessing!
✨ I read this in one day while traveling - it was a real page turner. It was a short, sweet, and fun thriller ride.
✨ I thought the twist was a good one. I ran through a million scenarios in my mind and had actually kinda contemplated something close to the actual twist but dismissed it because I just couldn’t quite make it fit.
✨While it was very fun, it’s noteworthy that none of the characters are very likable. I couldn’t give it a higher rating because it was hard to cheer for the characters to get out of the situation 🤣

This book kicked off with excitement and hooked me right away, making it impossible to put down. It's a real page-turner that keeps you engaged throughout, and the twist will completely surprise you!

This started off pretty slow for me, but about half way through it definitely pulled me in. I was right along believing what the characters wanted me to believe and I was surprised to find out the full story! Not a bad thriller at all! If you need a quick read, this is for you!

I truly did love this thriller. I personally never can see twist coming in these types or stories, and man when this one happened I was shook!! This is the perfect thriller for anyone wanting to dip their toes into a new genre and was a super easy ready!

Oh, Freida McFadden, how you did it again! When I saw I got approved for this ARC book, I screamed! I am a huge fan of yours and have enjoyed every single book I have read by you!
One By One had me wanting more by the end of each chapter. This was a quick read that continues to keep you engaged throughout the book. The book is about 6 people who are going on a week-long cabin trip. They are friends that hold a lot of secrets from each other. As the book develops you learn that anything that could go wrong ends up going wrong and not to trust your closest friend or significant other.
The first couple is Noah and Claire who seem to be getting by for their kids. They both are miserable in their marriage but neither of them will go towards the next step. The second couple is Lindsey and Warner who haven’t been together for long. Lindsey is Claire’s best friend. The last couple Jack and Melissa are married and seem like they have the least connection among them all! Jack is Noah’s best friend from college who ends up being a crummy friend!
I highly recommend this book to others who enjoy books that keep you guessing until the end! This book continued to surprise me as I continued reading! Freida does it again leaving you speechless with all the twists and turns you take through a book. This is one you do not want to miss!
Thank you, NetGalley, for letting me read this book and leave my honest opinion. Thank you, Freida McFadden, for yet another engaging book!

For a novel titled One by One about a group of six people who are are getting picked off, well, one by one, the first death doesn’t happen until 40% into the book and it’s clearly an accident, not a murder. So yeah, the pacing is OFF. I did find this one to be far more believable than The Teacher, though I still have a lot of questions in the end.
The most interesting thing about this book—the device that added any measure of suspense and the only thing that kept me reading—was the anonymous narrator. Most chapters are narrated by the main character, Claire, but every few chapters, there’s another voice that chimes in. From early on, it’s clear that this narrator is the killer, and it’s our job to figure out which member of the party is talking. The author does a neat job of peppering in red herrings to throw the reader off the trail. I’d suspected some of what turned out to be true, but it definitely kept me guessing right up to the end.

This was definitely not one of my favorites of Freida’s.
I get it’s fiction, but it almost seemed too far-fetched for me. I feel like the characters’ reactions to things were the opposite of what would actually occur, like very mundane and blah.
And I guess the entire trip was a setup, and there actually was no inn? I’m not sure, that was never explained. But I find it hard to believe people getting lost in the woods on the way to a hotel/inn.
I will say the twist was surprising, I was not expecting it to be who it turned out to be.
I’m rating this 3.5 stars. Again, not my favorite Frieda McFadden book, but still entertaining.

I really enjoyed this one. Being lost in the woods is a nightmare but even worse when your friends are getting killed off one by one. Great read with a twisty ending.

What a delightfully creepy book! When the car breaks down in the middle of the woods, three couples begin to hike to their destination. Trouble begins almost immediately. One by one, they go missing. A wonderfully twisty plot, well drawn characters and fabulous storytelling move the story at a quick pace. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to more work from this author. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.

What a ride that was! It started off slowly, introducing the characters on their way to a weekend get away. None of them are particularly likeable so when things start happening, you think it could be any one of them. Definitely did not guess the culprit.

Frieda McFadden never fails to deliver amazing stories I am literally open mouthed every time absolutely brilliant

This is yet another Frieda McFadden book that kept me engaged and flying through to see how it end! I was entertained by this book

What a twist! This was my first Freida McFadden book and I was booked from the beginning.
A group of 6 friends goes on a dream vacation in the woods when tragedy strikes the group. One by One, the group will learn the secrets in the woods.
Definitely will read more by McFadden.

I just finished One by One written by Freida McFadden and here are my musings.
Claire needs this vacation. With her marriage on the rocks, overworked at home and work, a week without the kids is exactly what the doctor ordered. An adult couples week away will hopefully start to fix the damage to her marriage.
One the way Claire's minivan breaks down. With no cell reception they make the decision to walk the rest of the way to the resort. Trouble is, the forest is dark and ominous… They find themselves lost, hopelessly lost.
When one by one, they start to die or just disappear, the only thing that is common between them all is the large claw marks they keep finding, which means Claire's dream vacation has now turned into her worst nightmare.
This book ticked all the boxes.
Locked door mystery CHECK
Twists and turns CHECK
Cat and mouse games CHECK
Hairs on the back of your neck standing on end… DOUBLE CHECK
I love when a book doesn’t give you enough to figure out what is going on but makes you think you have it all figured it. This book had me flip flopping like a fish out of water trying to figure out what was going on and the ending…. DANG!! Did not see it coming.
I didn’t like any of the characters and usually that doesn’t sit well with me but I loved that I didn’t like anyone. We got the POV of Claire and an anonymous person who we get their back story for. I never figured out who the anon person was either and I was sure I knew. I’m rarely wrong and this really pleased me.
I am a @fmcfaddenauthor fan but this just means my standards are super high already and this one was knocked out of the park.
5 stars and thank you thank you thank you to @poisonedpenpress for my gifted copy and this bad boy is out now.

As McFadden does lots of twists. Six couples set out on a getaway and one tragedy happens after another. You never see it coming at the end, but the ending leaves it open for interpretation and perhaps another book?! Although not my favorite of McFadden’s a solid semi-thriller if you need a quick read. 3.75 stars from me.
