Not my favorite by Freida. The twist was okay, but by the time it came I was annoyed by the characters and their choices. I know I’m a southern girl raised in the middle of nowhere who still lives in a cabin in the woods now, and my lack of city life most likely lessens the chances of the characters fates falling on me. But how do that many adults wander around aimlessly in the woods? Why did no one think “Maybe we should mark the path from the car so we can get back to it”? Or better yet, why didn’t they walk back down the road when they realized the car would have never made it down that path to get to this supposed luxury resort anyway? Don’t even get me started on their decisions once they became lost in the woods.
I’ve grown to expect more than this from Freida.

I loved this woodsy horror-esque vibe! i feel like this was a new realm for freida & it really worked, i was just as bamboozled as i always am by her! the anonymous chapters throughout really added another element & kept me guessing who it was about until the very end, i absolutely devoured this! 5/5

Quick, easy, fast paced, with a twist: a true Freida thriller.
I love Freida thrillers. They’re so good to binge and are always so well thought out. I had to know who the “anonymous” narrator was; I kept thinking I knew and it was truly the last person I thought it would be!
Freida is re-publishing her books under her new publishing house. So while this was originally published in 2020, it was re-published this week via Poisoned Pen Press. Thank you to Poisoned Pen and NetGalley for the read in honor of its re-pub date.

I am obsessed with Freida McFadden’s books ❤️ !! She is a brilliant writer and just when I think I have it figured out 😳… she gets me every time 🤦🏼♀️ I really enjoyed this book. The story is about friends who are going on vacation until their car break down and they get lost in the woods 😱 they go off one by one and get why they deserve 🫣 Thank you Frieda for another wonderful read and NetGalley for the digital copy of the book 📚 ❤️

If it's a Freida McFadden book... I want to read it! One by One is a thriller of a group of three couples that go away for an unplugged cabin trip.. Claire and her husbands marriage have been on the rocks and she hopes this trip will even save them, or break them for good. But when her car battery dies and there is no service, the group needs to hike to their cabin. One by One each guest starts to go missing.
This was such a quick and fun read! Usually I have an idea on plot twists but I did NOT see this one coming! Some of it was a little far fetched for me which is why only four stars.. Would be great to read on a quiet vacation!

An edge of your seat thriller! There are so many twists and turns in this book; you will not be disappointed! Three couples traveling to a remote location...a impromptu hike, and viola...drama ensues! You will not see this ending coming!

Freida has done it again, another gripping psychological thriller that begs to be read in one sitting!
Claire and Noah are on the verge of divorce, but they’ve got their annual vacation planned with a group of friends, it would be harder to explain to them if they cancel and they’d finally have to admit out loud that they each aren’t happy. They decide to go on this trip, maybe it will help them reconnect? When their car breaks down just shy of the resort they decide to walk the rest of the way, it’s only a couple miles after all. The group quickly realizes they are lost and one by one they are picked off.
The way Freida McFadden keeps you on the edge of your seat is remarkable, I have yet to accurately guess the ending of any of her novels, One by One is no exception. If you enjoy twists and turns, you will love this book.

I usually LOVE McFadden books but this one was a total disappointment. Absurd plot that had me actually laughing out loud. Some decent twists and turns if you put the unbelievable scenarios out of your head. Good premise but fell flat on its face.
I won't give up on this author but learned that the books are hit or miss. Boo hiss.

Claire’s once-perfect marriage is falling apart, and she is having an affair with her husband’s best friend. This just does not seem like the right time to go on a hiking trip with her husband and two other couples. But maybe she can fix her marriage? Maybe the break from work and children will do her good? When her car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, and the three couples are wandering in the woods trying to find their hotel, members of their party start disappearing. Are they being hunted? Is it a wild animal? Or is it one of their own party?
Freida McFadden doesn’t disappoint here. Once again, her realistic characters lead the reader through a maze of adventure that is nothing at all like it seems. Twists and turns and mystery keep the reader enthralled until the very end of this tale! This is another McFadden tale that I highly recommend.

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
I really enjoyed this book. One thing I love about this author is her books are typically quick reads with short chapters and this was no exception. This story is told mostly from Claire's POV with some 'anonymous' flashbacks. It is a whodunit type of read and after every anonymous chapter, I was convinced it was someone else but I never guessed correctly. There was some repetitiveness that was a bit annoying at times and some character traits that made me want to scream throughout, but overall, once I was into the story, I could not put it down so it was easy to overlook that stuff.

Another quick and fun read from Freida McFadden. I've learned not to take the books too seriously when it comes to some event being plausible. Once I stop doing that, I can fully enjoy them.
My main issue is how unlikable all the characters were. It doesn't happen often with McFadden's books, but in this case, there were no redeemable traits that had me vying for certain outcomes. I know we can't like every character, but I expect to have something in the protagonist that I can like.

You will not be disappointed with the Book! Shocking, thrilling and page turning. Do not miss this book!! Thank you netgalley for sharing this book with me.

Freida McFadden's thrillers are hard to put down, even if you know they're not great literature. Her books are FUN, and if you're willing to suspend your disbelief, you'll find yourself caught up in her crazy plots. ONE BY ONE is one of my favorites. When a minivan of six friends breaks down on the side of the road, the group has to hike through the woods to their hotel. But just as the title foreshadows, one by one they go missing. WIth a premise similar to Agatha Christie's AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, it's hard not to be captivated by the story.
I flew threw the pages of this book. It's perfect for an evening when you just want to unwind after a stressful day of work. McFadden's twists are some of the best in the thriller business, even if she's borrowing from well-established tropes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free copy of the book in exchange for my opinions.

Freida never disappoints when it comes to twists that you NEVER see coming. I have read a decent amount of her books, and every time I am like this is who it is, and never have I ever gotten it right. I even try to think way outside the box. This is about Claire and her husband Noah, who are planning a week away at a resort with 2 of their friends and their friends significant others, before they make it their car has issues and they are in the middle of nowhere with no cell service. One by One they start to get picked off, but who or what is doing it? Nothing is as it seems.

I have to admit that this thriller started with a bang and kept me interested the entire time. The story starts out with Claire’s perspective, a mother of two who starts by trying to figure out when she started to hate her husband. The other perspective is anonymous and the reader is left guessing who that perspective is, the anonymous perspective that tells the reader all 6 people going on this trip have secrets but theirs is that only one of them will return from the trip alive. Claire, her husband Noah, her best friend and college roommate Lindsay, Lindsay’s boyfriend Warner, Noah’s best friend Jack, and Jack’s wife Michelle all set off in Claire’s minivan for a week in a lodge in the woods. When the minivan breaks down and they are lost the six of them head off into the woods armed with a map and a compass and full of confidence they’ll make it in no time. But slowly people begin to die or disappear leaving only blood and claw marks in the trees. I will admit I went through several thoughts for who the anonymous voice was and the book was good at leaving small clues and helping the reader figure out what was happening. Overall I gave this one 4.5 stars rounded up for keeping me guessing.

Such a readable thriller! Most of this author's books are twisty domestic thrillers, but this one was more of a survivalist story. I flew through it, trying to figure out the twist. I didn't solve it, and although the ending felt a little dumb to me, it was a fun easy read.

"One by One" by Freida McFadden was a captivating 4-star read! A group of friends planned a trip away from their day-to-day lives at a hotel with hiking trails and hot tubs. Claire and Noah are warned by their young daughter not to go on the trip, but they decide they need this time away. They pick up Lindsey, Warner, Michelle, and Jack on the way to the hotel. However, the van breaks down in the middle of the forest, and that’s just the beginning of the trouble. "One by One" is the perfect title!
While not my favorite Freida McFadden book, I still enjoyed it. Most of the story is told from Claire's perspective, the female main character. There are also chapters narrated by Anonymous, providing background information about another character and what motivates them. I thought I knew who Anonymous was, but I had guessed wrong. There are plenty of twists and turns in this fast-paced book. However, some of the revelations at the end seem a bit far-fetched for me. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to my next read by Freida McFadden.
Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press, Freida McFadden, and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this ARC and share my honest review.

One by One by Freida McFadden presents a gripping premise where a group of friends find themselves hunted down one by one in the wilderness, promising a suspenseful read reminiscent of classic whodunits. While McFadden adeptly builds tension and suspense, the novel falls short in character depth and the plausibility of its conclusion. The protagonist, Claire Matchett, seeks respite from her daily life but finds herself in a nightmare when their minivan breaks down, leaving them vulnerable. Despite its flaws, One by One offers a compelling read with its relentless pace and unexpected twists, making it a suitable choice for fans of the thriller genre. As readers await McFadden's next release, they hope for a return to form and a more satisfying conclusion.

If there is one thing Fredia McFadden knows how to do, it’s write a fast paced mystery/thriller. One by One is definitely a new favorite of mine. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and there was never a dull moment. With some thrillers, I feel like there is “fluff” where things need to be explained to help the storyline move along. This was the opposite. I did not feel like I was ever waiting for something big to happen because there were so many interesting things going on at once. I will definitely recommend this 5 star read to everyone.

I love Frieda!
Claire is going on a couples vacation with friends.
But when Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road., the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought.
Hours later, they are lost and one by one they end up dying. What is happening?
Did I say I love Frieda?
