On By One had me gripped by the first few pages. A group of friends get lost in the woods and someone or something is picking them off one by one. This was a quick read that kept you guessing until the very last page.

I have read a lot of Freida McFadden's books, and this is one of my favorites! Her books are so addictive, and this one is no different. It follows her classic patterns of twists and turns, and one by one they get what they deserve...

I really enjoyed this nod at the much copied Agatha Christie device from “and then there were none“. The plot kept me guessing until the end, theorizing about who might be the culprit and enjoying the challenges of all the flawed characters. I sometimes find Frida McFadden‘s novels a bit derivative (although I enjoy them very much given the beach reads They are, so no shade). I found this to feel less of a copycat, and just an enjoyable easy read thriller.

Twisty, a little unbelievable at times. but the narration style drew me right in and the action kept me turning the pages! Claire Matchett has been looking forward to a week-long vacation at a Colorado retreat with her husband and 4 of their friends. When the minivan carrying the group of 6 breaks down on a little-traveled road in the woods in an area with no cell service, they decide to walk the rest of the way to their hotel, but despite having a map and a compass, they can't find it. Stuck in the woods with very little food or water is bad enough, but then one member of the group dies suddenly and another disappears mysteriously, leaving Claire afraid she will never get home to her kids. The plot throws out one unexpected event after another, as well as a twist I doubt many see coming.

I am forever a fan of Freida McFadden! I am always grabbed by her books and don’t want to stop reading. This one was no different, and I read it in less than 24 hours. I loved the action, quick pace, and twists and turns. I also loved the switch between Claire’s POV and the anonymous POV. I was able to guess the ending for this one, but it may just be because I’m familiar with Freida McFadden books. Overall, this was a quick, exciting thriller that I couldn’t put down!

When I read the summary to this book, I honestly didn't know if I would like it or not, because it seemed different from her other books I have read. The story follows Claire and her husband, Noah, going on a trip with their 2 friends and their significant others. Claire and Noah are at a crossroads in their marriage, to the point where Claire wants to ask for a divorce after the trip. You can feel the animosity on every page.

Shortly into the trip, they travel into the woods, and their van breaks down. They use a map and a compass to navigate to their destination. Tensions are high between all of the couples, and they start to fight and separate. Then, they start to die one by one.

The other voice in the book is Anonymous. This is the killer, and they tell you about their life growing up with an abusive mother and absent father. It really made me feel sorry for them, and gives you an idea as to why they are the way they are.

Freida McFadden definitely knows how to keep you guessing until the very end. Just when I would think I knew who the bad guy was, she would make me switch to another person in the next chapter. My mind was blown at the end. I truly wasn't expecting it. Another great read from this author!

The story follows a group of colleagues from a tech company who find themselves trapped by a snowstorm in a luxurious chalet. As tensions simmer and old resentments surface, it becomes clear that someone among them is not who they seem. When members of the group start turning up dead, suspicion mounts and paranoia takes hold, leading to a deadly game of cat and mouse.
The pacing is relentless, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger that propels the story forward. As the body count rises and secrets are revealed, the tension escalates to a heart-pounding crescendo.
What sets "One by One" apart is McFadden's keen understanding of human nature and her ability to craft a story that is as psychologically compelling as it is suspenseful. With its atmospheric setting, intricate plot, and well-drawn characters, this novel is sure to captivate fans of the genre.

Wow. Freida McFadden does it again! This book kept me guessing and second guessing!

How did a couples vacation go so wrong? Who can Claire trust?

Once I got halfway through, I could not put this book down until I found out what was happening to this group. You think you know, but you don’t!

OMG, what a ride this has been!
I'm a huge "Freida reida", this being my 5th title of hers, and I have to say that the thrill is always there! Sure, I'm used to twists and turns, and I look for the usual suspects along the way. But Freida manages to always keep me in the loop! Everything is not as it seems, and even though we are talking about half a dozen characters, surprise is guaranteed!
Fast paced, captivating and never disappointing. This is Freida McFadden at her best! The journey of 6 friends longing for some well deserved vacations in a luxurious mountain lodge is both thrilling and scary. Team Freida 4eva!
Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to immerse in this new title. This opinions are my own. Devoured in 5 days...

Note to self: Do not go to the woods for a holiday with friends…EVER.
Well, Frieda got me this time. I did not see that ending coming at all, and that final chapter, diabolical.
What a thrill ride this was. I’m sure my heart was going to beat out of my chest at one point. Six friends go to stay at an inn for a week long vacation, and through circumstances end up lost in the woods. Then one by one they start dropping like flies. Are there nefarious purposes at hand, or is there a killer animal near them?
I was hooked from the first chapter. Every thing worked for me, and I feel like I might be about to fall down a rabbit hole full of Frieda McFadden books. It was so addictive and the perfect length. So nice to read a book that isn’t trying to enter the Guinness records for thickest book ever.
I had a blast, and this is perfect for people wanting a quick thrilling read with a twist you won’t see coming.

This was a fun read but it wasn’t my favorite Frieda McFadden book. I felt this one was rather predictable and the ending was mediocore. Overall, this book is still an enjoyable read and a fun way to pass the afternoon.

From the moment I cracked open the pages, I was ensnared in a web of suspense and intrigue that refused to let go. McFadden's storytelling prowess is on full display as she weaves a tale of deception, betrayal, and mystery that kept me guessing until the very last page.

The characters in 'One By One' are so vividly drawn that they practically leap off the page. Each one is intricately crafted with layers of complexity, making it impossible to determine who to trust. As the story unfolds and tensions escalate, I found myself torn between rooting for certain characters and suspecting them of dark motives.

But what truly sets 'One By One' apart is its relentless pace and heart-stopping plot twists. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, McFadden expertly threw another curveball my way, leaving me breathless and eager to devour the next chapter. It's the kind of book that demands to be read in one sitting, as every page is filled with mounting tension and suspense that refuses to let up.

McFadden is the Queen of fast paced easy to read mysteries. Six friends go on a,trip to an inn in the woods but never make it. Their relationships are not what they seem. Told in alternating chapters from Claire's point of view with an anonymous narrator's backstory interspersed. The end is full of twists and this ending was a little too twisty. A book you want to read through to the crazy end.

I read this book so fast!! Every time I thought I was onto the twist, something else happened and I’d have to think again. I love anything Freida writes, she always keeps me hooked. This was a great read, however, it wasn’t a favourite of hers. I feel like it could have been much longer and the ending could have built onto what happens. Maybe there will be a sequel to this? Overall, it’s an enjoyable read.

Claire goes on a weekend get away with her husband and some friends. Claire needs this weekend to save her marriage, but as they are almost to their hotel, Claire’s car breaks down in the middle of the woods. One by one, each of them begin to mysteriously die.

This book was pretty good! It was very fast paced in the beginning, the only complaint I have is that it was a bit repetitive. Nontheless, it had an amazing plot twist and an anonymous diary which kept me questioning who it was the whole time. I was shocked as everything got revealed which is what I love about Freida McFadden’s books.

First I’d like to thank Netgalley for an ARC of One by One by Frieda McFadden.

4.5 stars. Holy shit.

This was a classic take on a “who done it” thriller and when I tell you I could not put this book down…. Seriously I couldn’t. I thought it was attention grabbing the entirety of the book and the ending had my head spinning. Like there was a plot twist for the plot twist that was the plot twist. WHAT.

Frieda I owe you my life🫡

In my ✨thriller era✨ lately! Thank you to Netgalley & Poisoned Pen Press for my copy for of this amazing book!

One By One is a gripping thriller that starts with what sounds like a blissful getaway but quickly turns into a deadly nightmare. The story begins with Claire Matchett’s minivan breaking down on a remote dirt road, setting the stage for a series of chilling events. With no cell service and mounting tension among the group, they decide to trek through the woods to their hotel, only to find themselves lost and disoriented, adding an eerie horror film-like atmosphere to the narrative. What makes this book truly standout is McFadden’s skillful storytelling, keeping readers on the edge of their seats from the very first page. The use of an unknown narrator adds an intriguing layer of mystery, keeping readers guessing without giving away too much too soon.

Just when you think you have it all figured out, theres a twist thrown in that will completely shock you. This was a fast paced read that was hard to put down! And my jaw literally DROPPED at the ending!!

I highly recommend this to all thriller & mystery fans!

Claire needs this trip. Her marriage is on its last legs, and she’s hoping the hiking and hot tubing with friends in a luxurious hotel in the woods will save things.

But on the way to the hotel, their van breaks down in the middle of nowhere with no cell reception. Stranded, but only a few miles from the hotel, the group sets off. But it isn’t long before they realize they’re hopelessly lost, and it’s getting dark.

As night sets, members of the group start to go missing, Claire wonders if they’re being hunted, and by who. As the “vacation” continues, it’s clear they’re not all going to make it out.

Freida McFadden writes amazing thrillers, and this one was no different. This book was great. Very suspenseful and full of the drama that I’ve come to expect from her. There were also some awesome plot twists! I loved them and didn’t see them coming. Freida’s writing is always so polished and takes me for the best possible ride. When I found out who anonymous was, I was shook, I did not see that coming at all! It was great and I loved it. I loved how it was written one way, and had me expecting something, and then it was just everything.

When I requested this one on Netgalley I didn’t realize that this was a re-release since Poised Pen picked it up! I’m glad that I grabbed a copy, and if you want to grab a copy you can buy one or read it on kindle unlimited.

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press @Poisonedpenpress and Netgalley @Netgalley for the e-arc. All thoughts are my own.
