I love Frieda McFadden novels! I always spend the entire book trying to figure out the plot twist and she still manages to surprise me EVERY TIME, this book was no exception. With that said, this wasn't my favorite of her novels, the plot line just seemed a bit flat and underdeveloped. There was still lots of suspense and tension though and it was a very quick read. Thanks to Poisoned Pen for the copy of the book on net Galley.

What another great Freida read! With every book of hers, I try to figure out the twist, and it never fails, I NEVER have it figured out. The ending was quite shocking!
I am thankful to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy. You all ROCK!

A group of friends go on a week long vacation at a secluded resort. But the van breaks down in a forest and they end up walking and getting lost in the woods. Strange things start happening as one by one tragedies occur and you wonder who is the mastermind behind it.
A fast paced thriller that keeps you guessing. Great characters and a surprise twist in the end. Another great book by Ms. McFadden.
Thank you to the Publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in return for my honest review.

Another good read by Freida! Easy reads with lots of plottwist and a page turner! I couldnt even guess the ending. Recommend this book, and honestly any Freida McFadden- always!

Thank you netgalley and to the publisher for this arc copy I gave this book. A 3.5 is was good it wasn’t great it just wasn’t one of those stories I wanted to keep reading but it was interesting enough to keep me reading . I did like the ending of the story though

This is my first Freida McFadden book but I’ve been seeing her books everywhere recently so decided to pick one up. This was a short thriller that was entertaining and had a couple of good twists, so overall I enjoyed it. However, since it was so short I felt like there were parts that were lacking and thus made it not as great as it could have been.
The point of view for this story is told by two different people. The first, “Anonymous”, is identified as our killer right away. We then receive a few chapters from Anonymous throughout the story to add small tidbits of his/her life and thus makes you begin assuming who the killer truly is. But each chapter points to a different character as the possible culprit.
The second point of view and our main narrator is Claire Matchett. She is going on a week long vacation with her husband and their friends, 3 couples, and Claire is excited to get away from everything and possibly figure out what to do with her failing marriage. We quickly meet the other characters and although we receive a couple scenes from their past, I didn’t feel like these characters were well-developed. None of them seemed to have a very specific voice and some of the reactions were unrealistic and made them full 1-dimensional. This made some of the moments that should be terrifying feel anticlimactic.
I did enjoy the twists though. I actually did not guess who the killer was, and then another little wrench was thrown in at the end that I thought was clever and added a bit of a “dun, dun, dun” feeling. So this made up for the fact I wasn’t that interested in any of the characters and was bored a few times during the main storyline.
Thank you to NetGalley as I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was amazing!! At first I thought it was predictable, but boy was I wrong. I was completely shocked. 6 friends end up going on a vacation and only 2 come back, but which 2 will it be. Freida is an amazing author.

Another Great book, From Freida.
From the moment I began reading, I found the characters to be totally relatable to. Who doesn’t have a husband, a friend, a boyfriend who comes with his or her faults.
This is the story of six such people who decide to take a trip together and encounter hell instead.
Not being my first Freida’s book, I was expecting twists; and as always, I thought I had figured the book out before I was even halfway through, and of course, I was wrong . I knew better than to expect the unexpected.
Freida is a master at letting us believe that we know what is gonna happen and at the end just twisting everything in the most astonishing way.
This is a very enjoyable and easy read for those of us who enjoy a good psychological thriller.

This book was good! I love Freida’s writing style. It was a nice quick read. I enjoyed it. I didn’t guess who was the anonymous person was but I did suspect the other part coming. But I definitely didn't see the Anonymous person coming at all. I loved it.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if Freida McFadden writes it, I'm going to read it. Yet again, she delivers a page-turner full of twists and turns. At just 272 pages,"One by One" is a bingeable mystery/thriller with its fast pace and short chapters. This book wasn't my favorite of her works, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I thought some of it seemed repetitive (e.g., "I jog over to see what's going on. 'Lindsey,' I say, 'what's going on?'"), and it almost would have worked better as a novella. While I guessed some of the twists, there were still a few unexpected surprises, making it a worthwhile read. Overall, a fun thriller that you can easily binge in a day.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. The new paperback edition of "One by One" is out now!

This book was intriguing from the outset, the pacing was good & kept things exciting. However the twist did not live up to my expectations.
I flew through this book but it fell flat at the end for me, which is a shame as I love The Housemaid series.
Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Overall an entertaining and quick read! 3.5 ⭐️
Claire and her Husband Noah are on the verge of divorce when they decide to take a trip to a secluded inn in the woods with a group of their closest friends. When their car breaks down and they find themselves lost in the woods, they start disappearing one by one.
This was my first thriller and first Freida McFadden book! I enjoyed how quick the read was and the story and writing were overall very entertaining. I will definitely keep exploring this author’s books! This would be the perfect quick pallet cleanser book.

4 Stars
I found this book to be an exciting, thrilling, edge of my seat.. I have to find out what's happening next kind of read. I utterly devoured this book, as I mostly do with Freida McFadden novels, and would have finished it in one sitting if it wasn't Easter Sunday. I was completely shocked that I DID NOT GUESS THE PLOT TWIST! The ending literally left my jaw on the floor!!
This book is told from primarily from the FMC, Claire's POV. Throughout the book there are chapters from an "anonymous" characters POV which are more like flashbacks. Claire, her husband, and 4 friends plan to go on a week long vacation in a secluded Inn in the woods. Claire's relationship is on the rocks and she is hoping that this trip will either make or break her crumbling marriage.
The is not off to a good start and entirely falls apart when Claire's minivan breaks down in the middle of nowhere. With barely any supplies, no GPS or cell service, a printed off map and a compass the 6 friends set off to try to locate the Inn. As disaster continues to strike all the relationships are put to the test.
One by One members of the group start to disappear. Its up to Claire to figure out how to survive this whole ordeal and make it home to her kids, while also trying to solve the mystery of what is happening to her friends. She does find out that things aren't always as they appear!
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys thriller books with a good plot line and complex characters. With all the twists and turns it truly was an enjoyable experience that had me questioning each characters morals and left me desperate to find out the ending!

This was my first Frieda McFadden book, and omg!!! Like what the twist, the plot, the crazy, the what. You know. Wow!! 1 she is an incredible writer!!! I was so into this book done in 2 days. Just could not get enough. I just had to keep reading!!!! Great job!!!

What a thrilling murder mystery. I changed my mind on who the killer was no less than three times.
A group of 6 friends go on a week long trip to hike and fish in nature. Only there is a murderer among them. The author is fantastic at throwing you off the killers sent many times and leaves you with your jaw dropping at the end. The twists and turns keep coming and prologue leaves you even more stunned
McFadden is a fantastic thriller writer and I will always reach for her novels!

Claire sets off to go on a trip with her husband Noah, his best friend Jack and Jack’s wife Michelle, and Claire’s best friend Lindsay and her new boyfriend Warner. Already in a tumultuous marriage, Claire is looking forward to spending time with the others separately from Noah. They set off to an inn when they lose signal and get lost in the forest. This is where things suddenly start to go downhill.
One by one, as the title suggests, everyone starts disappearing. Claire starts to wonder what exactly is going on. Is it a random murderer in the forest? A mysterious animal? Claire notices claw marks in the trees and starts to think it’s the latter, until weapons are revealed.
This book was fun in typical Freida McFadden fashion. I loved the pace of everything and I felt like there was never a dull moment. I was just a bit underwhelmed with the storyline and believe that there are other books of hers that are better. Maybe I just wasn’t interested in the plot?
Otherwise, it was a good mystery/thriller nonetheless. I found myself regretting reading the last 20% at night because I felt that frightened. I still love this book, it just wasn’t Freida’s best work.

Thank you to #netgalley, #poisonedpenpress and the absolutely amazing #freidamcfadden for the copy of this book. This is the 7th book that I have read by this fantastic author and I am still loving the books.
Book Description:
One by one, they will get what they deserve. A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation. She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. It sounded like heaven. Then Claire's minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren't as easy to navigate as they thought. Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost. And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them? But as more time passes , one thing becomes clear: Only one of them will return home alive.
This book had so many twists and turns however I am so proud of myself for figuring out who anonymous was relatively quickly. I can usually get the who but not always the why when I read Freida's books. One day Freida, one day I will be able to crack the whole nut!

OMG another Freida McFadden masterpiece! This book kept me up nights. She paints such an intense scene of her characters, flawed and humbled, sets the trap for the reader and pounces. I adore her books, this one was a bit different, but no less thrilling in any way. She could write a gem from a grocery list and I would want to read it. Thank you for this book as well as your others! Keep writing!

This was a decent mystery, but not Freida's most thrilling novel--The Housemaid series is much better! This one was a very slow build, and I mean a majority of the book, before anything really happens. And while all of the background information and build-up IS necessary to the thrilling last 1/4 of the book, it does make for a less-than-exciting read. The last 1/4 did give the book the boost it needed and made it worth the read in the end. If you're looking for a quick and semi-entertaining thriller, I wouldn't say you shouldn't read it, but there are definitely better ones out there.
I just reviewed One by One by Freida McFadden. #NetGalley

unsurprisingly, Freida has almost caused me a heart attack…again. Like every book by this author you are on the edge of your seat from page one until you are on the last line of the book. Never have I been let down by one of her stories and she has yet to disappoint. Go into this book blind you won’t regret it.
