One by One - Freida McFadden
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I blew through this book in about 4 hours. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time the suspense was perfect. There were a lot of repetitive things but I think it was to throw you off your track. The whole time I tried to figure out the twist. I guessed some of it but not the biggest twist. This book should be talked about more! The characters are unlike able but it was a great guessing game of thinking you knew who/what it was and then they next page you are thinking it’s something/someone else. I found this book to have the perfect thriller element and might be one of my top Freida books!

I love Frieda McFadden's fast-paced, twisty novels, and One-by-One was no exception. I devoured this story, hardly able to put it down. I was instantly frustrated with and sympathetic to Claire, the main character whose POV we see most of the story through. Heading out on a yearly trip with close friends from college, Claire's marriage is struggling, and she's not looking forward to alone time with her husband. When their car breaks down and her friends start disappearing, she's terrified she'll never make it home to her kids. I was instantly hooked, and found this to be a fast, fun, easy read that kept me guessing the whole way through!

Freida McFadden never fails to surprise or shock me with her books.
I spent most of the book trying to decide if Warren could actually be guilty or if it was to easy an assumption, but then McFadden had to go and throw a twist on my guess.
Freida is a masterful storyteller and this book sucked me in, right from the prologue. I loved this book.

Claire’s marriage is falling apart and she is going to end it. So when she and her husband and some friends decide to get a way for the weekend, she has asked for a separate room. But, Claire is not on the up and up. She is having an affair with her husband’s best friend. He is also on this trip. But, before they get to their destination, things start to fall apart. The car breaks down and they all get lost in the woods…then the real danger kicks in.

I am slowly working my way through Freida McFadden’s books. This one seems a bit more disjointed than her other books. These main characters, and there are quite a few, make some really stupid decisions and I wanted to pinch them silly, especially Claire!

But, the story itself is pretty intense and intriguing. At first, I thought this was going to be more of a horror tale. But as it unfolded I realized what was happening. And no one can make a twisty tale like McFadden!

Need a tale you won’t forget…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

i did enjoy this book but i thought it was a little hard to follow. it was definitely a totally dofferent concept than most of her other books. of course there was a great twist at the end that felt like it came out of nowhere but it was a litttle too out of nowhere for me.

In a typical Freida fashion, I think I know what is going on but I don’t. I never do and that’s the good part!!
The story is about a group of couple who go on a camping trip and the car breaks down on the way there. The group tries to get to their location but have no clue where to go and things start happening one by one.
Overall this was a good read! Not my favorite by this author but definitely good.

I did not expect the anonymous narrator/POV in this one!!! Freida really writes her books so you least expect who perspectives are written from. I did think parts of this plot have been overdone across authors but in Freida fashion, the fast paced storyline, still kept me entertained throughout.

One by One by Freida McFadden is one of the easiest 5 stars I've given so far this year!
Although this is only the third Freida book I have read, she has quickly become one of my favorite authors! When I think of thrillers, I immediately think of her. One thing I loved about both this book and her previous book I read, The Locked Door, is that the chapters will switch back and forth from current to past time. Every chapter there is a new twist and turn, I always think I know what is going to happen next but the majority of the time I am wrong or at least wrong about who did it. Claire and Noah's relationship evolves so well throughout the book. Freida knows how to write characters that many can relate to along with characters that are extremely suspicious. I can definitely say I will be continuing to read Freida McFadden books and she has become a go-to mystery/thriller author for me!

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

A story about Claire, a mom of two who had found herself heading towards a trip to the forest with a few friends. Except that she's also with her husband whom she had grown to deeply despise over the years. We travel with them as things keep going wrong. Secrets are revealed and true natures are awoken.

Dang, Miss Freida does it again. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. And to say the trust blindsighted me is an understatement. I will say that this caters more towards us plot-driven readers, so don't expect a ton of character development. Other reviewers have mentioned some plot holes, but honestly, it's not that deep. It's a fun and quick easy to read thriller, enjoy the ride.

Loved this book. Such strong characters and edge of your seat story. You are kept guessing until the end and even when you think you have it figured out you don’t. The author is very descriptive and you can picture the scenario the characters are in and you’re scared and worried for them. Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read and review this book.

A fast paced twisty thriller. I enjoy all this authors books and loved this one too. Friendships and marriages gone wrong in the woods.

Another page turning story with lots of twists. This definitely gave murder mystery feels, and the anticipation of who's next kept me thinking " Just one more chapter". This book had a creepy layer added to it.

Thank you to Netgalley, Freida McFadden, and the publishers for this free ebook. This review is 100% my own and honest opinion.

My 6P review

Three couples. One week of hiking in the woods. One by one they fall as they try to locate their luxurious hotel. Who or what is hunting them?

The premise was great. Who doesn’t love a mystery in the woods where the characters are being murdered one by one.

There were six characters in this story, the main one being Claire. Unfortunately she was very annoying. She was winey and couldn’t make up her mind about her men. I liked Noah, he was a solid character who was also reliable. They were supposed to be a surgeon, school teacher, lawyer and physicist but they all seemed to be dumb.

The author did not need to header each chapter with the POV as this was obvious from the reading. I did find a lot of the writing repetitive. Yes I got it that Claire hated Noah and wanted their relationship to end. Yes I got it that she missed her children. Yes I got it that Michelle was such a bitch and Warner was the best looking male ever to have walked the earth. This did not need to be told to me every chapter.

They were all very hungry after half a day. Nobody thought to research this five star hotel before venturing into the woods to stay there. The recommendation also came from a guy they had never met before. Would the “road” they turned down not set off alarm bells. The sex did not have to happen either. The claw marks were ridiculous as well. In fact, they added to the stupidity of the characters.

The setting was well written. I could traipse through the woods with the characters and I felt myself shifting in my seat when they bedded down for the night on the uncomfortable ground. I was concerned though, that they couldn’t walk the three kilometres to the hotel without getting terribly lost – and it took two days. Really?? I did like the way we were constantly guessing as to the truthfulness of the characters. Who was telling the truth and who was sabotaging it? The ending was somewhat of a surprise and it left me feeling angry for Claire.

If it wasn’t so repetitive, I would have given this three stars but I’ll have to settle on two and a half.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in return for an honest review.

Freida does it again. This gripping thriller follows a group of friends throughout what is supposed to be a relaxing weekend getaway. But are things always as they seem?

THIS ENDING I was shook. It was not at all what I was expecting!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for a copy in exchange for my honest review :)

This is the third book by Freida that I have read and for majority of the book, I totally thought I knew who anonymous was, and then it was revealed, and I was shellshocked. I really thought I had this book figured out and then it completely, just like I said, shellshocked me and I think that’s where I truly started to enjoy the book more. Everything before that point felt very predictable as in, that it was easy to figure out that anonymous was meant to be a woman, but everything was making it seem like it was to be a man instead. I do think the ending was a tad rushed and the actual logic behind anonymous was so delulu but like oh well. They got what they deserved in the end.

Another great Freida book! This one features 3 couples that set out for a week long stay at a remote inn. Their car breaks down in the middle of the woods miles from the inn and they get lost trying to walk there. One by one, the group quickly trickles down. Deff a great thriller. I was constantly guessing and second-guessing the culprit and of course, still didn't guess the twist 😅

Received as a last minute ARC before being rereleased as a paperback today. Read super fast to get a review out for the release 😃

Pretty typical Freida book. Lots of corruption and potential bad guys that has me thinking everyone is the “bad guy” at some point. I honestly can’t say I saw Lindsay coming and I thought it had to be one of the men. I hate but love how it ended knowing Lindsay planted doubt that could still affect Noah and Claire after they had a great ending and were working on their marriage. Can’t trust your best friend and sometimes the guy that’s been there all along is the right one.

Another great book by Frieda! This was so suspenseful right to the end! Surprise ending too! The characters were great and the way they intertwined brought the whole story together.

Freida McFadden does not MISS. I love that every one of her books is completely different (from what I’ve read so far) and takes place in completely different situations. Her books never feel like repeats. Given how fast I read this book (2 days) it is very clear that I was obsessed from the start. I loved the concept of this book and it had so many switch ups that prevented my guesses from being right, but that was in the best way possible. The ending didn’t come out of nowhere but it had the shock factor I love. So so well done!!

Wow! You think you have it figured out, and then there is a twist, followed by a few more twists and in the end. I did not have it right!
One by One is a quick, suspenseful read that will keep you guessing and wanting more! I can't wait to read more Freida books. Thank you Netgalley, Freida and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to review this book!
