Synopsis
Claire Matchett and her husband Noah have been married for over 10 years, but their marriage is having problems and Claire hates her husband. She’s looking forward to her weeklong trip to Colorado where they are staying at a cozy inn, but she’s not looking forward to the 4 hour car ride with Noah. Claire’s daughter had a dream that her mom got eaten by a monster in the woods, so she’s scared and doesn’t want Claire to go, but Claire brushes it off even though she knows her daughter has some sort of sixth sense. Six, six is a bad number. Six friends crammed in a minivan going to a remote location, six friends with secrets; how many will survive?
My Thoughts
This book was a quick suspenseful read that kept you guessing and guessing. I was turning pages like crazy trying to figure out if there was a killer in the group or if there was somebody or something else hunting the group in the woods. Nobody in the group seemed trustworthy!
Final Thoughts
FM hasn’t disappointed me yet! I’ve been binging her books the past few months, and continue to recommend them to fellow readers, so I will also be recommending this one!

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really enjoy Frieda’s psychological thrillers. This was a quick read.. just about 3 hours. As expected, it was crazy. The outdoor setting was creepy.. I could picture myself in the woods being terrified by every little noise. At one point, I suspected who might be “anonymous”, but I definitely didn’t see the ending coming.

Well-paced unputdownable suspense, absolutely terrifying!
Nothing scares me more than a normal slice-of-life situation that rapidly goes sideways and twisty. Three couples pack up a minivan and head out for a sweet luxury hiking trip outside of the city. This small group of new and old friends are looking forward to this time to connect, a welcomed break from the hustle-bustle pressures of work and parenthood.
How does this fun getaway dissolve and turn into a fight for survival? Get your copy and find out on April 2, 2024.
I'd like to thank NetGalley for an advanced copy of One by One by Freida McFadden for my unbiased evaluation. 5 stars

One by One is another quick ready by Freida McFadden. This is an older title of hers, but a great one! Came out in 2022.
Our narrator is Claire, who is extremely unhappy in her marriage, yet going on a vacation with her husband and 5 other friends. They take a trip each year, and this year is no different. Except, Claire's daughter has a dream that Claire gets eaten by a monster in the woods....Claire brushes this off initially, but after the group literally gets lost in the woods on the way to their resort and people start disappearing, she begins to question if she will ever return home to her children.
Primarily, the narrator is Claire, but there is also an anonymous narrator who has a chapter interspersed here and there. Anonymous tells us of their horrific childhood, and leads us to believe that they are a piece of the puzzle in the mystery of the people that have disappeared, but the reader is left to decipher who anonymous may be.
This book was an unputdownable thriller, and I read it from cover to cover in a day. Although Claire at times seemed a bit immature, Freida McFadden ratcheted up the tension a notch at a time that kept me rapidly turning pages on my Kindle. Absolutely loved this book, and highly recommend it to fans of Freida McFadden and Lisa Gardener.

Happy ReRelease Date! Thank you @fmcfaddenauthor & @poisonedpenpress for allowing to read this reprint early! This took me just a few hours to read. Clearly a quick easy read. I enjoyed the characters and the fast pace. I did find the initial twist a little unbelievable but did like the final “cliffhanger”. Perfect book to get you outta your slump!

This was a good book. It was a little slow but I like the character building. The anonymous chapters were amazing. The twist ending made the book worth the read. I definitely did not see that ending coming. Overall this was a good book. I enjoyed it and would recommend.

It's Frieda, of course you should read it. I have yet to be disappointed by one of her stories. This was no exception. I swear I thought I had it figured out - TWICE - and she still surprised me. There was a little less character development in some cases than normal for her, but having too many protagonists would have been a mistake. Keeping the focus to one primary with a couple secondary worked with that exception of a little lack of depth. True to Frieda and one not to miss.

Usually I’m a big Frida fan but this one kind of left me unsatisfied. This one almost felt forced and repetitive. Mediocre twist and suspense. I felt like she had a word count she had to hit to publish this because the random stuff put onto these pages was almost unbearable.
I’ll continue to read her books, but this one fell pretty short for me.

Claire, her husband and several friends are off on what they hope will be a fun vacation. But when their van breaks down and people start disappearing, everyone is wondering what is going on. This book is full of secrets and twists and surprises. I read this book in less than 24 hr hours. Frieda McFadden can do no wrong. My favorite of hers is still, The Teacher, but any fans of hers will definitely not be disappointed. I honestly don’t know how she does it.

This was a fun read. I finished it in close to four hours and couldn’t put it down. My jaw dropped from the final bomb at the end. I really thought I knew who it was! I would definitely read more Freida! Can’t wait for the boyfriend to come out! Thank you Frieda for a great book!

Unpredictable and twisty, One by One kept me guessing! Another excellent thriller from Freida McFadden. I thought I knew what was going to happen, but the final twist took me completely by surprise!

I loved this book! It has everything you would expect from a Freida McFadden thriller. It was hard to guess who the killer was, and all along, I thought it was either Jack or Noah. This is perfect for anyone who's looking for a mystery/thriller book with a twist they will never see coming.

McFadden doesn’t disappoint! In this thriller that is full of twists kept me on the edge of my seat, I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed the point of view switches as I read the book and how it really paints a picture in my mind of how it was going to end. McFadden has the magic in always switching it up and never letting the reader guess correctly with the twists.
Six friends are on the way to a disconnect from real life, one they could never imagine! This book is a page turner, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrillers!

Claire her husband and their college friends are off on a week's adventure in the mountains. Claire can't wait to get away and spend some quiet time. They all pile into Claire's minivan and head off. Seemingly out of nowhere, the minivan breaks down a few miles before reaching their destination on a lonely dirt road. As a group, they decide to walk the rest of the way to the hotel. Claire is nervous walking through the forest and just wants to reach her destination and a warm cozy bed. Then one by one her friends end up hurt or disappearing. Will Claire ever make it home to her children?

One by One
Freida...never....misses, I honestly want that on my grave stone because she hits every single time. No one does it like her, I've never had someone convince me I needed to go to a psych ward like Freida.
Also I want to say first I got accepted for this arc about 10 minutes before my flight for Colorado took off.... little did I know it was a murder mystery about friends who are going away to a cozy cabin in Colorado :) also one characters name is Emma! No seriously check up on me through this trip okay??!?! I'm convinced I'm gonna die.
I absolutely loved the dynamic of this book, it had everything I wanted in a cozy mystery/ thriller. The beginning you learn about Claire and Noah's relationship and how it's on the verge of divorce, Freida always does such an amazing job at giving you the background info so you understand every character. I always find that even if her books have a lot of characters I can still find myself understanding each one, which a lot of books I find myself confused.
This was a fast paced read for me, I flew through it. She always knows how to grasp your attention in the beginning and hold it all the way through. I was trying to solve everything and pick up little clues along the way but I had NOTHING. No trust in any character, no idea where this could go, NO IDEA WHATS GOING ON. Ugh I love how she has me on the edge of my seat. I swear on my life when I say no one does it like her.
Even after her huge twist she tends to hide something in the epilogue, never EVER skip a Freida epilogue. It holds gold. Every time I walk away from her books my mind is so fragile, it's almost like I seriously need to admit myself into a psych ward. This is a must read !!!

This book is set in the woods of Colorado as six friends whose minivan breaks down on the way to a getaway at a luxury resort. They must hike to try to find the resort or someone to help them since they have no cell signal and in doing so they get lost while navigating. Little do they know someone or something is out there, hunting them and taking them out one by one this book had me second-guessing myself until the very end. Suspenseful and well written.

If you’re looking for easy to binge books, read anything by Freida McFadden! One by One was no different, I could not put it down.
The story follows six friends who set out to spend a trip together. When their car breaks down and they find themselves stranded and lost in the woods, one by one they start dying or disappearing.
This story kept you on your toes and had you guessing until the very end. I enjoyed the shift of perspectives from Claire, the narrator, and the anonymous character behind the murders. I thought I knew who the killer was going to be and shocked when it was finally revealed. What a twist! If you love murder mystery novels, definitely check this one out.
Thank you, NetGallery and Freida McFadden for this ARC!

I'm a little unsure how to rate this one. Did I read it in two days and was I on the edge of my seat with anticipation for the twists and the ending? YES! However, when the book was finished I felt kind of let down. The story had so much potential, but all in all the loose ends, timeline, and getting lost in the woods the way they did made no sense.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC for an honest review.

I would like to preface this review by saying thank you to Poisoned Pen Press for sending me an ARC of One by One by Freida McFadden in exchange for my honest review.
When a group of friends decide to take a road trip together, the last thing they expect is to be lost in the woods. But, when each person starts to go missing one by one, you're thrown in the classic "Who Done it?" situation.
I did not expect to love this book as much as I did ! McFadden proves herself time and time again that she is the master of plot twists. There are dual narrators where we go back and fourth between Claire and "Anonymous". Right when you think you know who the anonymous person is, I promised you already guessed wrong. The epilogue made my stomach turn yet again with another plot twist. This book is a really quick and fun read if you're looking for something to pull you out of a reading slump.
Thank you again to Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC!

I absolutely loved this one. We are led to believe one thing and I know how Freida books are so I didn’t follow the red herring. Was I still wrong? Yes! I love the fact that I was actively trying to think about what was happening and I still got it wrong. This is the kind of book I love!
This had a dual POV with an anonymous character and that made it even better! I couldn’t guess who it was. And guess what? Another thing I was wrong about!
Make sure you get this one and read it! I consumed it in a day and can’t wait to read the next one by Freida McFadden!
