My God that was definitely a twist that I never expected. I thought I had guessed the anonymous narrator right, but I was definitely wrong. I was wrong TWICE!!! Miss Freida got me there. I read through this book in a breeze. I loved it. This is my third read from her. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This was my first book by Freida McFadden and I have to say I expected a little bit more than what I got.
Did the book hold my attention? Absolutely! I read it in less than 24 hours. But it all seemed a little too far fetched. I was getting annoyed with only listening to Claire's side of the story and would have loved to have heard the voice of even one other character, besides the anonymous voice. I feel like this book had so much more potential as a story, And the believability factor just wasn't there for me. But with that being said I definitely see the appeal that some readers will find in One by One, so will have no trouble recommending it to fans of this type of quick read thriller.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 on Goodreads.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

Claire couldn’t be more excited for her relaxing, week long getaway in the Colorado wilderness with her husband and two other couple friends. Leaving behind work and life responsibilities for fishing, hiking, and spending time in the hot tub, sounds like a dream.

That dream quickly turns into a nightmare when the car breaks down along the way, leaving them stranded in the woods with limited food and water and no cell service. With no choice but to venture into the woods to try to reach the Inn they were headed to, things continue to get worse. One by one the members of the group go down in increasingly mysterious ways. Is it mere coincidence, or are they being hunted by something, or someone?

As they struggle to navigate their way through the woods, it becomes pretty clear that only one of them is likely to make it out alive.

This book will keep you guessing the whole way through. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat.

I’m usually one to figure it out, but have yet to do so with Freida McFadden, and that keeps me coming back for more.

This one was no different. I’m giving it 4.5/5 stars. I HIGHLY recommended it for fans of mysteries, thrillers, and crime books.

As sad as I am to admit this…. I think I’m over my Freida kick 😭 I 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 her books and the stories and characters but it’s just becoming overwhelmingly predictable the more and more I read. I was sent this ARC via NetGalley and the publisher and am very thankful for the opportunity to read it.

This one is so twisty and thrilling.I was hooked from the beginning and thrown for a loop at times. I stayed up late to finish this one and really enjoyed it. Thank you!

The story revolves around six individuals embarking on what was meant to be a straightforward journey in a six-person minivan, only to encounter unexpected twists and turns along the way. The narrative alternates between perspectives of Claire and an unidentified character labeled as "Anonymous," who proves to be a significant source of conflict. While the identity of "Anonymous" remains a mystery for much of the story, the plot gradually unfolds, keeping readers engaged. Although I found Claire's character somewhat lacking in depth and occasionally overly complaining, most of the other characters were relatable and engaging. However, there was one character who grated on my nerves. While the pace of the story initially felt slow, it picked up as the plot progressed. Overall, I enjoyed the book for its simplicity and would recommend it to those seeking an uncomplicated, entertaining read rather than a complex, intellectually stimulating thriller.

A bingeable whodunit you can't put down! Freida McFadden has a way of making the reader feel like they've gotten the culprit pinned down, only to find out we're completely clueless! The description of the anonymous character was detailed just enough, it could have matched up with any of the characters!

We follow 3 couples who take a roadtrip together for a week-long retreat. Each person has their own secrets and lies they're hiding and man are things messy! I really enjoy the alternating POV's and the incredible job Frieda does of making me sympathize with each character despite their flaws!

This book has it all! Drama, secrets, lies, betrayal and murder...all checked off!

I will not be reading any more books by Freida McFadden. There’s a reason why she churns out thrillers - they’re not that thrilling. They read like high school creative writing submissions. Seriously, why are they not at least characterized as YA? The plots are so juvenile and unrealistic in the worst sense.

I absolutely loved this one. I had no idea what the twists and turns were as this group traveled through such unknown territory. As always, Frieda got me again with a crazy ending that had me yelling at the book. I highly recommend this to any thriller lovers for a quick, fun, and twisty thriller!

Once again, Freida has gotten me hooked so far deep into a book, I was unable to put it down. I should be sleeping right now, but I just had to finish this book to figure out who the bad guy was.

Six people set off to have, what should be a relaxing and fun getaway. Little do they know what they have in store for them. Four of the six in the group have been close friends for a long time, so it should be a fun trip, right? Right away the trip starts off rocky, with one of the couples getting into an argument, so tensions are already high and the vibe is already awkward. Then the car breaks down and the group is forced to try and find their way to the hotel that they are staying at, but instead, they get lost in the woods where the group starts to dwindle down. But what is happening out there to cause this?

The chapters are just the right length, and they alternate between Claire and Anonymous. Pretty early on, I thought I had figured out who Anonymous was. I was actually pretty confident in who I thought Anonymous was. Boy was I dead wrong!

I rated this book at 4.5/5 stars. The only reason it didn’t get the full 5 stars is because I didn’t want the book to end. I was that hooked into it. If you are looking for a page turner that you will not be able to put down, then this is the book for you. If twists, turns and shocks are your favorite things in a book, then prepare for the whiplash that you will get from reading this book.

Thank you to Freida for writing, yet another amazing book. Also a huge thanks to Poison Pen Publishing for allowing me to read this ahead of time!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Okay, so first let’s say, who I thought was to blame WASNT the person to blame! 🤣 Ms. Freida sure knows how to make a reader point at every character but the right one. I had my fingers pointing at just about everyone. But I was so so wrong. Chefs kiss on the writing! However, I think the story line was all over the place just to get the ending that we got ... I feel like a lot of it could have been left out. I’m not mad about it starting off slow because you have to build the suspense. Stuff doesn’t start popping off until ch 10. Which is typically for a physiological thriller.

This was my first Freida McFadden book and this one reminded me why I loved thrillers! UI love going in and you are immediately suspicious of everyone, You document all the little potential easter egg comments and you turn the page furiously needing to find out what happens next. This book ticked all those boxes and I literally read it in one afternoon.
it's addictive, suspenseful and the twist at the end...perfect!

I'll definitely be going and reading more of Freida's books immediately.

I really enjoyed this one! I love how Freida always has the best plot twists and this one did not disappoint. Very fast paced and quick read- I finished in a day. I liked how it was set in the woods; it was a different setting for a Freida book and I liked that about this story.

My review will be on my Tik Tok page on 4/2/24.

This was my 4th NetGalley approved ARC so thank you very much for the opportunity to read and review 😊

I haven’t been disappointed with a Frieda book yet! This one had a couple plot holes but it was fun and easy to get lost in. The story is told from one main characters perspective mostly, with an occasional “anon” chapter thrown in. You don’t find out until the end who the anon chapters are from, but I will say I guessed it pretty early on. (Blueberry scene) even with guessing that major twist, there was still plenty for me to be mind fucked with! Something I love about Friedas books is, even when you’re like ok I have all of this figured out, the last couple pages she throws in another curveball haha. I enjoyed this one, will always recommend Frieda 🙃

Freida!!!!! The rollercoaster in this book had me finish this in one day! Claire, my goodness! Loved the different points of views from the story being told.
A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation.

She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. It sounded like heaven.

Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought.

Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.

And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?

But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:

Only one of them will return home alive.

3.5 ⭐️ binge worthy read. I read this book in one day, short easy, chapters you can fly through. I just didn’t love it. It was fast and fun but it was your typical-people lost in the woods-one of them is a killer-who is it? I will say the “anonymous” chapters did have me a little surprised when I found out who was behind them.

Freida does it again. Her books always make me feel like I’m watching one of those edge of your seat suspense movies I like so much. Nothing groundbreaking of course, but I don’t always need that. Sometimes I just want a quick twisty thriller. And One by One is just that. A couples vacation to a cabin leads to ominous vibes, disappearing friends, and questions of who can be trusted, if anyone can. Read this one if you like suspense.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to read and review.

In the world of psychological thrillers, Frieda McFadden firmly holds her throne as the Queen of plot twists with her latest novel, "One by One." This book is a fast-paced, wild ride from the very first page to the last, ensuring that readers are strapped in for an unpredictable journey. McFadden crafts a gripping narrative in the first half that hooks you immediately, laying down a complex web of secrets and lies that promises and delivers high stakes.

The cast of characters in "One by One" are meticulously designed to evoke strong emotions, creating a delicious tension that propels the story forward. McFadden excels at crafting characters you love to hate, imbuing the narrative with a rich depth that makes the unfolding drama all the more satisfying. Each character is a puzzle piece in a masterful plot, where motivations are murky, and alliances are uncertain.

Just when you think the story has reached its climax and starts to wind down, McFadden artfully throws in another surprise, proving yet again why she is unparalleled in her ability to shock and awe her readers. Just as the dust seems to settle, and the end appears in sight, McFadden demonstrates her flair for the dramatic, tossing in another curveball that leaves readers reeling and deeply satisfied.

"One by One" is not just a story; it's an experience, a journey through the unexpected, and a delightful dance with the macabre. A must read for fans of psychological thrillers.

I LOVED this book! There hasn’t been a Frieda McFadden book I haven’t devoured straight through yet. This book has 6 characters but they were easy to keep track of which makes it easier for me to get into the story. I love how she can write a perfectly gray character and still keep you interested in how their story turns out. There is nothing like a book that makes you think you know what’s going to happen only to be completely caught off by the guard. The twists, setting and writing make this a 5 star for me!
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC copy.
