Freida never disappoints!
After being kinda disappointed with The Teacher, One By One is BY FAR my favorite one from the author with no doubt.
The whole story was well written, so intriguing and the ending… What a twist!

Please, keep those books coming because I’m pretty sure I will make a bookcase with only her books!

Quick easy slumpbreaker. I finished it in one sitting. There wasnt a ton of character development but I honestly don’t feel like it really needed it.

One By One ~ ARC review

I was super excited to be accepted for this ARC. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Freida McFadden.

I haven’t read anything previously by her, but I knew I’d enjoy her type of books.

About the book…
Claire wants to leave her husband, but she’s staying with him for the kids. They go on a trip away with their friends, but one by one they disappear. But who is responsible? And why?

The story is told from Claire’s POV, but there are a few chapters from someone “anonymous”.

My thoughts…
The whole time I was torn between a couple of people, I kept going back and forth. And of course, the twist wasn’t what I thought & I didn’t see it coming. Which I think for an author is SO hard these days, as everyone is trying to guess the twist, so usually on their 10th guess they work it out and say “I knew it” even if they didn’t originally 😅

I highly recommend this book if ~
🪵 You are a Freida McFadden fan
🪵 You like psychological thrillers
🪵 You enjoy books with lots of suspense
🪵 You like a “who done it” type storyline

I read this book in less than a day. And I haven’t done that in a long time.

I found the book really easy to read, it was fast-paced, and I honestly couldn’t put it down.

Claire and five others are headed for a vacation in remote woods. A week at an inn with a hot tub and a separate room from her husband is all she wants. But no cell service quickly turns to no GPS and then a broken down van on an unmarked path. With nothing else to go on but a compass that can't find North and a printed map, the group becomes lost. Hunger and thirst set in. They become increasingly desperate to find civilization. And then people start disappearing. Claw marks are found on trees. Blood is pooled on the forest floor. Is someone or something hunting them?

This is a super fast read. One by one the chapters flew by, I read the words faster than I could form theories. What I did come up with was wrong. All wrong.
Everything is from Claire's perspective with some chapters from "anonymous". Anonymous is creepy but their identity is well hidden.

One By One is full of mostly unlikable characters. I did appreciate Claire's desire to get back to her children. It's all about survival though and seeing who will make it. I enjoyed the feeling of being lost in the woods. I would have liked more descriptions of their surroundings to up the atmosphere as I wasn't fully immersed in the environment.

It's a guessing game where you yell at the characters to be smarter while suspecting them at the same time. Sit back and watch the story unfold.

This book was rough to get through. I know a lot of McFadden fans state you can never correctly guess the twists but I saw all of these coming. I wasn't impressed, honestly.

Freida McFadden has done it again…once I started this read I could not put it down. Full of action and twists and turns, making predictions only to find out not quite…and then the ending! It is a wild ride through the perfect setting - lost in a never ending dark woods with little food or water. The woods actually became a main character in my mind as McFadden set the mood with her descriptive phrases and my own imagination . Freida makes it so very easy for the reader to identify with being one of the six people on this trip asking themselves what they would do. I found myself giving them advice throughout and getting frustrated when they did not follow it.
Each of the six has their own secrets that are eventually revealed. Although I have to say I did not really care for any of the six I was sympathetic to one and was later blindsided. Loved the nightmare that predicted their time in the forest.
Thank you thank you Freida McFadden for my bleary eyed day, as I have spent time revisiting some of the predictions and making new ones well past midnight - too engrossed to try to sleep - I had to find out who anonymous was. Thanks also to Hollywood Upstairs Press for having the wisdom to republish this gem for all of McFadden’s new fans, and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read an arc of this book to be republished on April 2.

I read Frieda books for fun and entertainment. This one did deliver some of that for me. While not a life-changing book in any sense, it served as a light vacation read for me. It wasn’t the best suspense thriller I’ve read, but it wasn’t the worst. I will also say that I enjoyed McFadden’s Housemaid books more, and I do look forward to the third installment coming later this Spring.

The story follows six suburbanites headed out to a luxury deep-woods getaway. What could go wrong!? With the romantic relationships of the couples already in fragile form, the trip was already ripe with stress. As the title suggests, something starts happening to the characters…. One….. by…… One.

Any reader going in to a book like this knows there’s a twist coming. I thought I had it pinned down, but OF COURSE my prediction was too obvious.

Thanks to Netgalley, Freida McFadden and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to read the e-version of this book before release for an honest review in return!

4.5 stars!
This was fast paced with lots of twists and turns and McFaddens signature plot twist. Would have read in one sitting if I hadn’t started it so late

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC for an honest review. Unfortunately, I have enjoyed some of Frieda McFadden's works but this one did not live up to the books I previously read, not a bad book but just not for me.

I am absolutely devouring everything written by Freida McFadden. This one, I didn’t think it was as good as others, that said I did really enjoy it! Twisty and full of wrong turns that not even a compass or satnav could negotiate.

📚 Book Review 📚

And… breathe ..!

What a rollercoaster of a read this is! Basically, I inhaled this book over a day and a bit, thank goodness for Bank Holiday Monday!!

This is a fast paced thriller which centres around Claire, her almost estranged husband Noah and their best friends Lindsey and Jack. Six friends decide to take a week away together to get away from it all. The marriage between Claire and Noah is strained to say the least but maybe a week away with friends will help. Then again, maybe it’s too late.

Too late for them all.

The car breaks down on the way and something is picking the friends off. One, by one.

I am late to to Freida McFadden party, granted, but now I’m here I don’t think I’ll be leaving any time soon. What a belter!

I’d like to thank Poison Pen Press, NetGalley and the author for the arc and the fantastic opportunity, in exchange for my honest feedback 😊

Freida knows how to write a page turner! Six friends start a road trip but they end up never reaching their destination. Lost in the forest, one by one they start to die or disappear. Claire has to find out who, or what, is responsible or else she will never get back to her children. As much as I liked the story, the end has some predictable and not so predictable twists and turns.

I love Freida McFadden, her books never disappoint and this was no exception!
I was gripped from the first page, thought I guessed the plot but I was wrong! I loved the anonymous POV throughout the book.

I absolutely love Freida McFadden. This just wasn't my favorite book by her. It did get better at the end as always with a twist you never saw coming!

"One by One" by Freida McMcFadden is an enthralling and suspenseful thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. With its compelling plot, well-developed characters, and unexpected twists, this book is a must-read! From the very first page, the book captivates you. Six friends embark on a weekend getaway to an exclusive resort. While they seem happy and excited on the outside to be getting away from their real lives for a little while, not everything is what it seems for these couples. From cheating to jealousy to potential breakups, the issues between this friend group are exacerbated when their car breaks down. Tensions and tempers run high as the friends try to find their way through the woods to the resort on foot, with only a map basically printed from MapQuest, a compass that may or may not be faulty, and very little food and water. Then, one by one, the friends start to disappear, and mysterious claw marks and blood splatter is all that is left at the scenes. Everything is not as it seems as the group continues to fight to attempt to find their way out of their nightmare. Thank you to Freida McFadden, NetGalley, and Hollywood Upstairs Press for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I loved this book! It kept me guessing right up until the end on what was actually going on with this group's misadventures. All of the characters were written in a way that you loved and hated them at the same time. None of the people in this friend group are particularly good people, but you find yourself rooting for them to make it out alive in spite of their flaws. I enjoyed the anxiety of not knowing who was going to disappear next and who (or what?) was behind it all.

I flew through this book. I was so intrigued to find out who, if any, of the friend group was going to survive this trip that was supposed to be a relaxing getaway for all of them. One thing I also really liked about the book was the dual POVs. It was interesting to get to see Claire's POV and then who we assume to be the culprit's POV. I spent the whole book up until the final twist trying to figure out who it was going to be. Freida did an excellent job in this book of making each individual person seem like they could be guilty at one point or another during the book. I definitely did not see the twist at the end coming, and I found myself speed-reading the last few chapters to get to the end. I would highly recommend this book to all fans of thrillers. This was my first Freida thriller, and I will definitely be adding more of her books to my tbr in the future!!

Thank you to NetGally and Poisoned Pen Press for proving a digital copy of One by One by Freida McFadden in exchange for an honest review.

One by One was a fun and quick read following a story of 3 couples trying to go out for a week long getaway, but they never arrive at their destination. It’s not my favorite McFadden thriller but I still enjoyed it and will continue to pick of more books by the author.

This was a really good thriller! I'm kind of glad I read it during the day b/c I am not sure if I would be able to sleep right after this one. It definitely prays on all your normal "lost in the woods" fears along with several new ones! When friends keep secrets from each other there is no telling what they will do to protect themselves. Claire is both a character you root for and also want to smack sometimes - but I could not put this one down even if I tried

Absolute loved this book I’d definitely read it again. Full of twists and turns right till the very end. Will definitely recommend to anyone who likes thrillers

Thank you for the ARC. This was a fun read. I felt it was a little slow in the beginning but once I got a 1/3 of the way in, I didn’t want to stop. I was also completing shocked with the ending! I love when I think I know what’s going to happen and it’s not at all what I expected, makes for a great surprise
