I read this book in one day literally, its a very typical Freida McFadden book. I will say this one hooked me in faster the usual with plot twists within the first few chapters. This book centers around Claire, a woman trapped in a dying marriage, and her experience on a trip with her college friends. The group unfortunately has a car breakdown in the middle of the woods with no cell phones service, and from there is an adventure. I did feel like the story became a little repetitive in the middle, but overall its a faced paced read. The other 'storyline' you follow throughout the book is 'anonymous' giving a look into the killers past. I really enjoyed following the chaoters and attempting to guess who 'anonymous' was. The person it ended up being I didn't even guess once.

Altogether this was an easy faced paced thriller, it was exactly the vibe i expected when I picked up a Freida McFadden book!

I started this book this morning and insisted on finishing it today. I could not put it down. I went thru many scenarios convinced I had it all figured out. I was completely wrong. Freida McFadden continues to be one of my favorite authors.

What was supposed to be a vacation for 3 couples to get away and relax turned into a nightmare. Claire and her husband’s marriage has been in need of rekindling for a while. On the way to the hotel they have car trouble and the 6 decide to hike the 2 miles (in the woods 😱) One by One just like every other Frieda book I pick up, I couldn’t put down. I devoured this baby. The whole time I’m questioning my own theories of who Anonymous is. Such a mind-bender, that plot twist 🤯 I did NOT see that coming at all. Was this my favorite book of Frieda’s? No but that ending did NOT disappoint!! Highly recommend!!

Three couples decide to go on a weekend trip in the woods but end up getting lost, and each night, someone gets picked off one by one. This was a super quick read and I breezed through it in one sitting. It wasn't anything groundbreaking (I was able to guess the twist after the second "Anonymous" section), but it was a good popcorn thriller.

Claire Matchett’s marriage is in trouble. She and her husband plan to go on a week long vacation to an inn with 2 other couples. While traveling all together in Claire’s minivan, they reach rough terrain, and the minivan breaks down. With minimal provisions, they trudge through the forest with only 2 miles left to reach the inn. However, hours later they appear to be lost, and each member of their group begins to die or disappear. Throughout the book there are occasional chapters reflecting back on childhood memories and teachings from an anonymous writer, which tie into the situations happening while the group is lost in the forest. As each of the six is eliminated one by one, it seems only one will be going home alive.

True to Freida McFadden fashion, this book is highly entertaining and fast paced. It is a quick read, taking you through twist after twist, with one final unpredictable twist you will not see coming.

Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC and opportunity to review this fun, engaging, and creative book!

4 out of 5 stars!

Claire Matchett believes a vacation will fix her problems and help her relax. Raising her young children and working full-time has been stressful for her, not to mention her failing marriage. What’s more perfect than spending time with two other couples who are friends and relaxing in the wilderness? When Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road, all six of them decide to hike to the hotel. But, hours later, they find themselves lost. And when person by person gets struck down mysteriously, they start to question each other and the surrounding wilderness. Was it an animal hunting them? Or was it a close friend?

Freida McFadden did it again! “One by One” was another fast-paced mystery with twists you’ll never see coming. Believe it or not, I actually sat and read this one in one sitting! I loved the ending of this novel and how everything played out.

I personally was not a huge fan of the characters. I felt like they were very naive to the situation they were in and handled stressful situations in horrible ways. It was like a bad horror movie, you know what’s about to happen. But, bad horror movies are reliable and can always get the job done. Same situation with this book. Not the best writing and story line I have ever seen, but it was still fun to read and was overall enjoyable. It will have you guessing what’s about to happen the entire time and the shock you in the end!

Pick up your copy of “One by One” by Freida McFadden on April 2nd, 2024!

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press, Freida McFadden, and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Let me start by saying I’m a huge fan of Frieda McFadden. She writes some of the most unpredictable twists and continues to shock all the way until the epilogue - which held true for this book as well.

One by One follows a group of friends after their car breaks down and they get stranded in a forest on their way to a retreat. Everything and everyone is not as it seems and the characters start to get picked off “one by one.” I was hooked from the start and, while I don’t feel like this is one my top reads by Freida, I was still thoroughly entertained.

One by One is another Freida McFadden book that I didn’t want to stop reading. There are many twist and turns to keep the reader guessing. It followed the same formula as a lot of her other books, and I was waiting for a final twist in the last few pages. I wasn’t as invested in these characters as I happen in some of her other books, but I still really liked it.

This book was absolutely captivating. I started it and finished it all in one day. The writing was so fast it was easy to dive into. The plot and all the twists throughout really threw me for a loop. I kept trying to guess what was going to happen and each time I was wildly off.

"One by One" by Freida McFadden is an electrifying thriller that grips you from the outset and refuses to let go. I love all of Freida's thrillers, but this one is one of my favorites. I love the "couples retreat" theme. It was hard to predict what was going to happen and who you could trust with its relentless pace and jaw-dropping plot twists, this novel is a true page-turner that will keep you guessing until the very end. If you're a fan of thrillers that deliver both thrills and depth, "One by One" is a must-read that will leave you breathless. Thanks for Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC to review.

I was sent a digital ARC by Netgalley to read and review. I love this author and was excited for a new book from her. It's not my favorite of her books, but it was still good with twists I didn't see coming. It was shorter than I expected, but it escalated fairly quickly. The book starts with tension between the characters that you can almost feel. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast paced thriller.

The thing I love about Frieda and ALL her books is how gripping, fast-paced and truly thrilling they are. The title of this book says it all. A group of friends plan a trip, get lost and have to hike through the woods to find the inn that they were supposed to stay in. Then, they started getting picked off one by one because someone/something is in the woods with them. Like I said, the plot was fast-paced and gripping. The twist at the end was pleasantly surprising and I am not surprised I enjoyed it. I am a BIG Freida fan.

Such an amazing book! Freida did it once again! Couldn’t put the book down. Finished in 24 hours. Lots of twists. Had me continuously thinking.

I'm under the realization that this is a re-publication; regardless, I zipped through this book in about a day. I've only read a few Freida McFadden books; while this wasn't my favorite, it was still an entertaining and easy read. Freida is the queen of plot twists and she doesn't disappoint in this book. I'd recommend it to anyone who's in a reading slump and needs to get out of it. There aren't a lot of characters and the storyline alternates between one of the main character, Claire, and an anonymous antagonist. The book definitely kept me on my toes! I found myself picking up my kindle to read this book during any downtime that I had.

This was an interesting fast-paced thriller. The story quickly gets started and doesn’t let up until the end. The book is narrated by Claire and a mystery anonymous person and the whole book I kept theorizing on who they were. It did surprise me at the end and took a turn from who I thought was the killer! The characters were all unlikeable, but I guess it was the point, it made everyone feel suspect. I also enjoyed the epilogue and the little zinger left at the end.
The big thing I didn’t like, but was essential to the plot point, was the cheating trope. I found it annoying, as well as the characters involved.

Freida McFadden is one of my favorite authors. One by One went at a nice pace with some surprises along the way. A few parts were questionable.

Really, really enjoyed this! True to Freida form, had me guessing until the end. I also really liked the “Anonymous” character who was surprisingly sinister. Very fast paced, very bingeable. Really enjoyed this and the plot twist was great! Will definitely recommend this to others.

One by One is about a group of 6 friends who travel to an inn together for a getaway week. This will be a week full of hot tubing and hiking while the men hunt and fish. Disconnected from their lives back home. Claire and her husband Noah need this week to repair their broken marriage. On the way to the inn, Claire's minivan breaks down and the group is forced to walk the rest of the way to the inn. As they get farther and farther into the forest, members of the group are struck down one by one. Is someone or something hunting them? Claire's dream vacation becomes a nightmare as it becomes more clear that only one will make it home alive.

I gave this book 4/5 stars. I love Freida McFadden's books and this did not disappoint. I finished this book in 24 hours. I was hooked from the beginning. I enjoyed the dual POV chapters and was kept on the edge of my seat until the very end. I enjoyed the characters and the relationships between them. I tried focusing on the little details throughout the book to see if I could figure out the ending but I was pleasantly surprised. It did feel a bit slow in the beginning but once they went into the woods, everything picked up. Overall, this book was great and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good thriller.

I started reading Freida McFadden books this year and have not had one that I didn't like. I love the twists, the build up and the pay off.

I love reading her books to try and figure out what is going on and the twist but did not see this one coming.

As always the writing is fast paced and enjoyable, and no-one is trustworthy leaving you guessing right to the very end.

Highly recommend this book especially if you are getting into mystery/thrillers.
