Three couples enter the woods one day but slowly they disappear one by one. Who will make it out alive and who is the culprit?
Freida McFadden did it again! Fans of And Then There Were None will absolutely love this fast-paced thriller. Each twist will shock you. I didn't see the ending coming at all -- literally all my guesses were wrong. And the ending......wow.
This is the perfect quick easy read for the summer.

This is your typical Frieda McFadden thriller: bingeable, twisty, shocking, page-turner. A little far-fetched in plot, but engaging and full of mysteries until the very end.

This wasn’t my favorite book by McFadden for sure I think that the story although is fiction was extremely unrealistic, and the characters felt one dimensional. I did really like the fact that we had to figure out who the narrator was throughout the book. But it just fell flat for me.

This took me a little bit to get into but once I did I couldn’t put it down. I thought I knew what was happening until the plot twist! Parts of this book we’re frustrating but overall it was a quick fun read!!

Another almost amazing book by Freida McFadden. I started reading her books a while ago and all of a sudden I have read most of them, most 5 stars but a few clunkers here and there but I do love the way she writes! Six people go on a trip together. One by One - I’ll leave those three words there for you to ponder, the usual twist at the end is especially twisty in this one! I recommend this book and this author.

I really enjoyed this book by Freida. The storyline was intriguing and suspensful. I had an inkling of who the anonymous narrator was but there was just enough doubt to not be entirely sure. The ending was a bit surprising and I enjoyed it overall.

Claire and Noah are having a marriage crisis. In fact, Claire is certain they are headed for divorce, and soon. She and her husband spend any time together sniping at each other. Despite having two children, Claire knows that life away from Noah will be much more pleasant. But first, she and Noah are going on a weekend trip with two other couples: Claire's best friend Lindsay and her boyfriend, and Noahs' old college roommate Jack and his wife. The couples set out for the resort set in the wilderness of Colorado. As the road becomes more isolated and the directions are consulted, it seems they are not far from their destination when the van they are riding in dies. So far from any towns and without cell service (naturally), everyone decides to walk the rest of the way. Using maps and compasses, they set out, but soon Claire is alarmed when she sees frightening claw marks on some trees. As they are unable to find their hotel and food and water run out, soon they will start to realize that something (or someone) is stalking them in the woods.
The story alternates between Claire's description of what's happening on the trip, and the background story of "Anonymous" who was horribly abused as a child and we soon come to learn, is someone on the current trip. It was fun to try to figure out which one of the 6 might be the one causing all of the spooky happenings. The story also ends on a twist, so it leaves you thinking about what happened after the book ended. An exciting page-turner that keeps the suspense coming!

I think I am deeming Freida McFadden Queen of the plot twist. To say I devoured this book would be a gross understatement. I loved it. I think this may be my fave McFadden novel.
The writing was superb. She is a trickster! She leaves breadcrumbs to make you think “anonymous” could be any one of the 6 friends! Well except MFC Claire. It’s so good.
6 friends, 2 married couples, and one semi new relationship hop into a mini van to go on a mini vacation.
Anonymous makes us aware in chapter one that 5 of the 6 will not come back from their vacation. Secrets secrets everywhere.
Poison belladonna berries, wild animals, hunting rifles, Swiss Army knives, no cell reception, creepy dilapidated cabins, and possibly a psychopath. What could do wrong? I think I am deeming Freida McFadden Queen of the plot twist. To say I devoured this book would be a gross understatement. I loved it. I think this may be my fave McFadden novel.

Not my favorite Freida McFadden book but that doesn't mean its bad. Because all of her books are good. But this one just didn't hit like my favorites.

First let me say I love reading Freida McFadden ! All of her book are amazing !
One by One was an unputdownable thriller !
Claire’s minivan breakdowns on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere . No one in the group has cell reception . They have no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel - through the woods . They get lost and one by one they go missing . This is not the vacation that Claire Matchett expected. A chance to repair her marriage sends her and two other couple’s on vacation for a week of hiking and hot tubs !
Is the Killer one of their own ?
Another Great Psychological thriller by Freida! Could not put this book down! With all of her books I never see the ending coming ..

6 friends take a trip to a cabin, get lost in the forest along the way after their vehicle breaks down, and start disappearing one by one. It is a short and easy read with a McFadden twist at the end, but it isn't a unique story. It won't have you on the edge of your seat, and while who did it is a bit unexpected, the story as a whole is very predictable.

Every Freida McFadden book I read is a great read for me! I still have not been able to figure out the twist in any of her books! I love all the twists and turns that just keep you guessing.

This book was okay. It only took me a few hours to read and I did find myself interested in how it would end. I actually guessed part of the big twist pretty early on. I don’t think this is Frieda McFadden’s best work by any means, but it was a quick and fun read. There wasn’t a ton of detail like I’ve seen in some of her other books, but I think that actually kept the plot moving pretty quickly. I did laugh out loud on the very last page and it did keep me guessing occasionally. This was a solid 3 stars for me.

Arc Review
Rereleased on April 2,2024
Another twisty book is almost here by the one and only Freida McFadden. This was a super quick and easy read. I finished it in about 6 hours and was entertained the entire time. I think if you just want to turn your brain off for a couple hours (or if you are new to the thriller genre and just need to dip your toes into a non-complex story) this is the book for you. I loved the dual POV between our main narrator Claire and an anonymous character. At one point, I think I had suspected every male character and still did not know who to believe. I never once guessed who it truly was though. I did find the story a little repetitive at times and each of the characters had some unlikeable qualities. However, the pacing was excellent and it is one of my favorites from this author so far. I absolutely recommend it!

"Two people can't keep a secret...Not unless one of them is dead."
One by One is a quintessential Frieda McFadden book full of twists and turns and as always an ending you'd never expect. Claire and Noah are having a rough time of it, caught up in every day life and a rocky marriage. A trip with 3 of their friends and Claire's best friends new beau in a lovely secluded hotel deep in the woods is exactly what they need. Or is it?
This book was well written and had a grip on me. I couldn't put it down. The book is fast paced with the twists and turns you expect. Although there was some repetition, it wasn't overly done and didn't distract from the plot. The characters were well thought out and you could imagine each of their personalities. If you like a good psychological thriller, this is for you. I highly recommend giving this book a read. You won't regret it.
Some potential triggers: abuse to a child

This was a quick easy read. Even tho the story started a bit slow, it didn't bother me as there was a lot of character-building going on, which I enjoyed. Most of the story was fast-paced and I finished it within a day. That said….why is the FMC always whining about everything and seems just stupid? So yes…on several occasions I wanted to slap Claire…hard. I did, however, fully enjoy the ‘Anonymous’ voice (who wasn't really anonymous for me, but still enjoyed it). There were some things that I questioned or didn't make a lot of sense, but wasn't too bothered with it. If you are looking for an easy Thriller, this one is for you!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, NetGalley, and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC.

Freida did it again! This suspenseful thriller will have you turning pages to figure out what will happen next.
Claire is going on a weeklong trip with her husband and two other couple friends. Their marriage is hanging by a thread and this trip will make or break their relationship. On their way to the hotel their car breaks down in the woods. With no service they have no choice but to hike to their hotel. It should have only taken a hour or two but several hours later nightfall is upon them and there is no hotel in sight. One by one group members start disappearing leaving Claire to wonder who she can trust. Can she rely on her husband? Will they make it out alive to see their children?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! At no point did I guess who "anonymous" was. I loved the lead up, that each character was somewhat untrustworthy and the twists were fantastic. The characters were all well flushed out and nuanced.

This was a fun, quick, popcorn-type read. It didn't wow me, I didn't think the plot twists were all that amazing, and it annoyed me a bit that there was this big build up to a location that they never actually got to, but it definitely entertained me and sucked me in right away. It was such a fast read too, I finished it in just two sittings. Overall I had a good time and would recommend it to anyone in a slump maybe, or if you're just looking for something really quick and easily digestible.

Another highly entertaining read by Freida McFadden!
I read this in one sitting. I find her books to be fast-paced, fun reads, and I always feel like an armchair sleuth trying to figure out the twist that I know will come.
Although this is a theme that we've seen in many books and movies, it was still a lot of fun, and yes, I didn't get it right! I had an idea of what was going to happen, but I had the perpetrator wrong!
"There were six of us in the beginning. Now there are only two."
Six friends embark on a weekend trip to a cozy inn in northern Colorado. A week of breakfast buffets, a jacuzzi, and nature walks... yeah, right! This turned into a nature walk that nightmares are made of! Six people (most with secrets to hide) went in... how many will come out alive?
This book would make a brilliant movie!
