I am a "Freida Read-a' for life. Anytime I get to pick up a new title by Freida McFadden I know I am in for a treat. "One by One" is the perfect mystery-thriller binge with a vacation, serial-killer, and true McFadden twists.

One by one they all fall down. It was an interesting concept however it lacked true depth. The book was very cheesy and immature in parts. Like honestly how did they not figure it out? They wander aimlessly for days and no one thinks to question the others or sit down and strategize. It was very unrealistic.

The first rule of Freida is no, you haven’t figured it out half way through! This one had me guessing throughout the entire book!

I have become a huge fan of Freida McFadden. Her books are always on point and keep me on the edge of my seat. If you are looking for a twister I highly recommend this one.!!

Another excellent book from a brilliant writer. Read this in a few hours - could not put it down. So many twists and turns all the way. Edge of seat reading and so unexpected as usual. highly recommended.

6 people go on a trip and one by one they die/disappear. Who will be left??

Claire is a hardworking special ed teacher who needs a break and has a big decision to make - is she going to stay with her husband?
Every year, she and her friends go on a trip, this year to a cabin in northern CO.

We get some backstory on her friends and their significant others, but we also have an anonymous POV. Who is it??

They end up breaking down on the way to the cabin and go into the woods to try to hike there. As they go, members of their party start to die or disappear.

The last 10% is full of twists and turns and doesn't disappoint! Left me guessing until the very end.

Good thriller that kept me wondering until the very end! Very easy to get into and felt shorter than it was. I flew through this and was shocked when I saw how far I already was.

A group of 6 friends go on a week long holiday to relax and unwind, but end up going through their worst nightmare. One by one, the friends start either dying or disappearing, which means there is either a killer in their midst or a dangerous outside threat.

This is not one of your deep dark mysteries that keeps you up at night, but a palate-cleanser mystery or popcorn mystery. This is the second book I read from the author and I have to say I thought it was weird that yet again the main character is of the cheating kind. Not sure if this is a recurrent theme of the author or if this was just an odd coincidence.

All in all, a fun thriller to pass the time that I would recommend.

Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I started reading this book and could not put it down. The twists were both exciting and shocking. The book moved at a great pace and kept you captivated. Loved it!

I've read several of Freida McFadden's books, and I always find them either creepy and intriguing or a bit too gory. Unfortunately this one falls into the second category.

I really liked the pacing of this read and how you were drawn into the story immediately. The characters were all unreliable and kinda terrible, but I guess that's kinda the point as it adds to the unsettling vibe. The setting was pretty spot on and made the whole read uncomfortable and disturbing in a thriller like way.

The story itself was a bit too morbid and violent for me, and I did predict most of the twists. Still, it was a short and wild read that you could easily finish in one sitting.

3.25
Like all the other Freida McFadden books this was very fast paced, engaging, kept me hooked but the ending really let me down I didn't like it.
Throughout most of the book it felt like it was a 4 star or 4.25 but that ending lowered it down to a 3.25.

Freida McFadden‘s books are a guilty pleasure. The plot is somewhat predictable, but the books are normally short and fast paced. This is great if you are looking for a quick and easy read. I instantly found myself not really liking any of the characters of this book. I found them kind of obnoxious. I figured out who the anonymous narrator was just by thinking “ who does the author think we would least expect?” I think most of the book was just ‘rinse and repeat” as they walk through the woods. The very end of the book is where most of the action happens, so it takes a little while to get there. Overall, it was an enjoyable and quick read, but nothing really unique about the plot.

Frieda Mc FAdden does it again! When I started this book I thought I had it all figured out but, I was so so wrong! This novel has just the right amount of suspense and plot twists. I enjoyed the ride! It is expected to be released April 2, 2024

Thank you Net Galley, Freda Mc Fadden and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to preview this novel. All of the opinions shared are my own.

6 people
6-person mini-van
6-day vacation
6 people have a secret.
666 is the number of the devil. The number six represents both man and the evil that weakens him. (per Anonymous)
And so it begins...

Claire is our MFC, and while she is an unreliable narrator, her point of view keeps things interesting and moving quickly. We follow the journey of three couples, each coupling with their own deep secrets, heading off to enjoy a weekend unplugged together. We also get the point of view from another narrator, "Anonymous." While we don't know who this is until the end, we do know that they have a lot of insider knowledge on this crew and my guess of who this was changed a few times throughout the book.

The pace of this book is pretty steady, and I didn't solve the whole ending, so it kept me on my toes. If you're looking for a fun, quick read with likable and mostly realistic characters, this is a good thriller to jump into.

I love a good whodunit! Where the whole time bad things are happening, you are suspicious of everyone! What's interesting to me, is I don't actually get scared because I'm too busy playing detective. People are dying, and I didn't figure it out until all was revealed. Very entertaining and I read it in a day!

Freida McFadden does not disappoint when it comes to her thrillers! This one was a twisty, suspenseful thriller and I loved it! This one felt different from her others but in a good way! I would love to see her do more “survival thrillers” I was hooked from the start and could not stop reading. The characters were very well written and felt real, and the setting was perfect!

Three couples are driving to a week long getaway at a luxurious cabin when they take a wrong turn and the mini van breaks down. With no cell phone reception, they set off on foot and before dark they're hopelessly turned around. Soon, one of them is dead. Then another.... I started reading this one late one night and made it half way through before bed time, then had to get through a busy day before I could pick it up again. I had an absolute blast trying to figure out which of the four surviving characters could be the bad guy. I'm still not sure how they got so lost so quickly. If the dirt road you're on dead ends, wouldn't you backtrack to the main road? It seems obvious that they weren't going the right way, but these characters didn't know how to pee behind a tree so I was willing to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the ride.

3.25/3.5 ⭐️

One by One was quite slow in my opinion. It felt like all the characters just whined. The “anonymous” chapters are the only things that kept me going throughout the read. Once the last remaining characters got to the cabin i was more on the edge of my seat and wanting to not put the book down.

I’m a huge Frieda stan, so i was bummed i didn’t enjoy this more but that’s ok! i enjoyed the story line and the concept of the book but felt like even though it was shorter, it dragged until about 50/60% in.

Every dang time!! With each chapter I am convinced o have it figured out and everyone I am wrong. Like clockwork, two to three chapters left and I’m screaming ‘What?!?’ At the book.. Trust me you don’t have it figured out, at least not all of it.. keep reading, and of course the epilogue.

6 people. 6 days. 6-passenger minivan. 666 is how it begins.

This is the story of how 6 friends/acquaintances get lost in the woods on their way to a week-long vacation. Claire and Noah are a constantly fighting married couple, Jack and Michelle are both overworked, and Lindsay and Warner are the definition of a meetcute. What could go wrong?

Feels like a typical murder mystery, but I never suspected the actual killer. Claire just couldn’t let it go just how bad her marriage was, but the reader KNOWS.

Things I liked
- Quick read
- Plot twists
- Short chapters
- The use of Anonymous to keep the plot moving

Thank you, NetGalley, for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

One by One is a murder mystery that tells the story of six friends who get lost in the woods and begin being picked off one by one. This is my favorite so far! I have been on a Freida binge and I devoured this in one day! A quick, thrilling and twisty read per the usual with freida!
