A girl suffering from a 5 year past brain injury watches people in her town at night , trying to better their lives. She is also watching a little boy. She encounters a man who envelopes her in his own agenda and rapidly progresses to creepiness, with cold violence in the name of “help” ”. Great ending, with unexpected connections and self realization. I’m looking up his other books!

Mercy Lake watches people from afar. She is a bit of a guardian angel, also helping them out without their knowledge. When she meets Louis and introduces him to her people watching, she comes to realize that Louis has a more violent approach to her calm one.

This book had an exciting start - I was fully invested until about the 60% mark when I felt the story did drag a little bit (it is definitely a slow burn) but it then picked up again towards the end with the ending leaving me shocked and thrilled at not having guessed which way the story was going to go. I'm excited to read more by this author!

The People Watcher is a compelling read that has you staying up late at night for one more chapter.

Mercy is a complicated person that is obsessed with watching people through her binoculars resulting in knowing their lives very well.

Creepy but you watch along with her.

The People Watcher has it all: not so nice characters, twists and turns and red herrings that have you questioning yourself at times.

I thought I knew but I was completely wrong.

Sam Lloyd has done an amazing job of leaving clues to follow and I did not want to put the book down.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada for a book I wont soon forget.

I had no idea what to expect from this book, but I was a little underwhelmed. I didn't love it, but I didn't;t hate it either. It just didn't excite me.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was an ok read. I enjoyed Lloyd’s novel, “The Memory Wood,” more, but this was an interesting story. Mercy is traumatized by a past event that causes her to avoid the daytime. By night, she watches the people in her community, gives them names and tries to improve their situations. Once she meets Louis, her world turns upside down as he escalates Mercy’s intentions from simply watching, to acting.

I enjoyed Mercy as a character, but overall the story didn’t really translate for me. There were some strong moments, however, it all wrapped up too quickly for me.

I enjoyed the Memory Wood I think Sam Lloyd does great with slow burn thrillers, but I just found this one to be a little too slow for me to fully get into. I had to DNF.
