I always enjoy joy a Kate White mystery! For me, this one started a little slow. It did take a few chapters to really dig in, but once I was there I binged the rest of the chapters. This one did have me going back and forth between suspects. I enjoyed the punch of romance that was sprinkled in the plot and the progression of the investigation. However, I did find the ending to be a little anticlimactic and rushed. I did find the ending to be wrapped up fairly nice once the guilty party was revealed. I look forward to her next book and will always pick it up!

This was just mediocre. I didn’t hate it and I didn’t love it. I won’t remember the plot next week. I need more thrills in my thrillers.

This was a good read overall with a solid pace and an intriguing setup. The story kept me interested, and I enjoyed the suspense throughout most of the book. However, the ending felt underwhelming and didn’t quite deliver the payoff I was hoping for. It wrapped up a bit too neatly and lacked the punch I expected. Still, a decent read if you enjoy domestic thrillers.

This book is so intriguing, gripping, and unputdownable. I couldn’t guess the k!ller so the book kept me guessing till the end. Despite the suspense and mystery, the book had cosy feel because of likeable characters and the pace is good.

Kiki called off the marriage. She didn’t expect that her ex-fiancé Jamie would take his own life. After the party in Connecticut countryside, a noise comes from outside and Jamie is found unalive inside his car. But Kiki refuse to believe that a man like Jamie could take his own life due to breakup. So, she gather information, do the investigation and peel off the layers one by one to get to the bottom of the mystery. When secrets unveils and truth comes out in light, it shocks her. The truth is terrifying and unsettling. I would definitely be reading more of the author’s works.

Interesting premise but I wish they had provided a bit more background on the killers original motive. It would’ve made the reason behind it feel a bit more well rounded.

This was a fast read with an intriguing premise, but it felt more like a light mystery than a true thriller. The uncertainty of whether a crime even took place added some intrigue, especially with the flashbacks hinting at a past event without revealing much. While the story was engaging, it wasn’t particularly suspenseful, and the ending felt a bit rushed. An easy read, but not as thrilling as I expected.

Kiki heads to a party where her ex fiancée will be. When she does see him at the party it was a brief conversation that went ok. So she is relieved.

As the party is winding down there is a loud noise in the night and they find him dead in his car. They initially rule it as suicide, but Kiki does not believe that,

Very well written, great story. I finished it in one evening!!

Kiki is trying to solve the mystery behind her ex’s death. Police say Jamie’s wound was self-inflicted but Kiki thinks otherwise- unraveling the truth that might put her own life in danger. I really had high hopes but there were so many characters introduced quickly that I had trouble following along. There were a few unrealistic scenes, and the few “reveals” were anticlimactic. The ending was so rushed, I was like wait that’s the end? The romance was kind of out of the blue as a plot line too. I did finish, so it held my interest enough, but I guess I was wanting something bigger, something more from a thriller?

🔹 My take: 3.75/5

🔸 While Jamie Larsson is an amazing guy, he just does not seem to be the best to Kiki and hence she breaks up with him. After months of avoiding, Kiki finally faces him with guilt in a party organized by their common friend. The interaction is very brief and curt and makes Kiki think about her actions if Jamie is taking the break up well or not. The party is winding up and a gunshot is heard outside. On checking, it is known that Jamie is in his car and has shot himself. Kiki is unable to gulp down that Jamie could kill himself. She wants to dig deeper to find out what really troubled Jamie and was this really a suicide. What ensues is unravelling of sinister secrets which she never knew could exist jeopardising her own life too.

💖 Wows - The writing and pacing is nice. The thriller aspect is palpable and from the time curtains are opened till the time final reveal is done, readers would be interested in knowing the suspense. I had doubts on couple of characters but what came on was totally different. The home scenes when Kiki is alone are particularly packed with thrill and look creepy. Liked reading this.

💔 Ows - The reason why this was not above 4 stars is maybe because I have been reading too many of psychological thrillers. And hence I was looking for bit more and did not find the wow factor. The character development was good and all but it’s just not that book which you will definitely definitely pick up. It’s a one time read which I would recommend to people but will not force on.

The beginning sucked me in but then sort of fell flat. I just couldnt make myself like the main character and the romance felt unnecessary. But overall a quick read with an unexpecting ending.

There was so much potential for this but the ending just left me thinking "that's it?" When it started off I was interested to see where it was going, but the further it went along it felt as though nothing was happening. It felt as though the story just kept circling around and around.

2- The pace at the ending was engaging and quick.

Weaknesses:
1- The unlikability of the main character, which some people don't mind, but this one was a tough one.
2- The beginning pacing was challenging to engage with.
