This book had me hooked right away. I was so curious to see what happened to Jamie. At times I found the main character annoying, but overall was rooting for her.

I feel like this was a commonly overused storyline. I had higher hopes, but unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. It wasn't a very thrilling thriller. It seems that there were too many characters and that made it hard to connect with some of them. I did finish it, so I did enjoy it enough to do that.

Sadly I would rate this book with 1 star.

I still don't understand exactly who the killer was for sure, and what the relationship to Jamie was. There were so MANY characters introduced in the beginning pages - and their relationships so convoluted, that I had trouble keeping any of them straight - not a problem I ever have when reading.

I didn't love that the prologue and another chapter were the murderer's point of view (I think) and then we had no connection to the killer......it seemed to me that the ending was wrapped up so quickly and just pinned on someone that it could have been.

I also don't understand why authors feel the need to give descriptions of characters clothing to such a degree - "put on a cotton sweater", "an unwrinkled cotton tshirt", "a summer cotton dress" WHO CARES about the material of the clothing? Is that a word filler? It's so disrupting to the story - that's something Barbara Taylor Bradford did 30 years ago describing her rich characters in a romance novel - it doesn't fit in this book at all.

I tried very hard to care who killed Jamie, and that Kiki had a prior connection to him......but I was skipping whole chunks of pages just to get to the end to try to find out if it was a suicide or not. PLUS, I still don't understand what the point was at the party when Kiki overhears Jamie and someone talking - you still don't know who they were talking about or why it mattered. Wouldn't it have made sense to have the overheard conversation wrap back around to the killer?

UGH

When her ex fiancé dies, Kiki struggles to understand why it happened. She feels something is just not quite right and she has to find answers. Can she find the answers she wants?

This book was slow for me to get into but picks up half way through and ends with a surprise ending. Worth sticking out.

Thank you Net Galley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for the early access of The Last Time She Saw Him by Kate White!

I really had high hopes for this one in the beginning, wanting to learn more and more about Jamie’s death. Then Kiki was introduced and I slowly lost interest. I finished the book hoping the ending would be better, but I felt like it was rushed and I still had questions by the end of it.

I did enjoy Kate’s writing style and would give another one of her books a chance!

My rating:
⭐️⭐️⭐️

I found this an easy and enjoyable read — preferring the back half of the book where the intrigue and pace picked up a bit for me. The action unfolded a bit too slow for me in the beginning but did lay the foundation necessary for the way the story progresses. I did find myself rooting for these characters and did find the ending satisfying.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper's Collins for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was extremely excited that Kate White was releasing a new thriller this year! After reading Such a Perfect Wife in December, I binged the 7 others of the Bailey Weggins series, along with most of the other fiction Kate has written.

It was wonderful to read another Kate White book as I enjoy her writing style and well-developed characters who feel like people I would actually know. I was excited that the setting for this book takesplace in Litchfield, CT, an idyllic town that she's used in other books and a place I am familiar with. I have vacationed at Winvian Farms many times.

The Last Time She Saw Him was a quick read. I read it on a Friday night in one sitting after dinner. Maybe it's because I've read so many other books by Ms. White that I probably know how her mind works, I felt this book was a bit anti-climatic. I figured most of it out as I was reading and kept waiting for a much more shocking twist. But reading another Kate White book felt like being reunited with friends. While I would recommend other books she's written over this one, I am happy i read it.

I am generously rating it 4 stars and will continue to read the next books Kate White Reads.

Although this wasn’t the most thrilling thriller in the world, it was a very enjoyable and easy to digest story. In the beginning I was worried about the sheer amount of characters introduced. A few of them seemed unnecessary but did work as red herrings.
The first half felt more like an exploration of grief more than a mystery whereas the end felt like a romance.
I really enjoyed Kiki as a MC (minus the Sam thing) for her devotion to the truth, even when things got hairy.

The story seemed slow to start but did have some good twists in it. The story pieced together well once finished.

As much as I loved the premise of this book I just could not get attached to the story or the characters. I decided to put it down *for now* around 32%. I may come back to it eventually when I am in a quick and easy thriller mood because that is the vibe I was getting.

Kiki was at a dinner party and so was her ex-fiancé, she dreaded seeing him since this would be the first time after she called off their wedding. It was a little awkward but he seems to be moving on. As she was telling her hosts goodbye they heard what first they thought was firecrackers then a car horn that kept blowing. After investigating they found her ex in his car dead with a gunshot to the head. The police rule it a suicide but Kiki just doesn’t want to believe he would do that. Everybody tells her to except it and move on but she can’t keep thinking that it was murder. I enjoyed this book it kept me coming back to see what happens. Thanks Netgalley for my arc.

Kiki attends a party and her ex-fiancé Jamie is there. They had broken up a few months earlier but she thought he was moving on. Then after the party the guests heard a gunshot. Jamie was found dead in his car and his death is suspected to be a suicide. Kiki knows there’s no way Jamie would kill himself and she is determined to find out who killed him. .

I liked the book but it definitely needs some editing before publication. There are a few instances where Liam is referred to as Eric and a couple other spots with mistakes as well. I also felt there were a couple of plot holes and spots that weren’t well explained by the end. The story was really good but I wish there were fewer inconsistencies and I would have liked the story to be wrapped up a little better. The ending left a bit to be desired.

Thank you to the author, Harper Publishers, and NetGalley for the advance reader copy. This is my honest review. Publication date May 14, 2024.

If you are looking for an easy bingeable thriller this is a good one to check out. While it wasn’t the most thrilling thriller I have ever read, It was just enough to keep me interested till the very end. Overall, it was a fun read. I never got bored and I didn’t feel unsatisfied once finishing.

Sadly wasn’t a fan of this whodunnit murder mystery. I couldn’t stand the main character and I definitely did not like the small romance part of this. Disappointing because the premise of the story was intriguing

The last time she saw him by Kate white

A young woman named Kiki reed has recently broken off an engagement with her ex Jaime, when she feels like it just isn’t a good fit. She comes back to her small town for a friends party and runs into her ex, awkward confrontation ensues and her life is sent into an upheaval after her ex is found dead. Instantly it is ruled a suicide as the evidence points to that theory. However KiKi believes otherwise and is fighting to prove it!
This was quick read that held my attention to get to the bottom of the mystery. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a good read. Kiki has recently broken off her engagement with Jaime, who she knows she is going to run into at a dinner party and book party in Connecticut with shared friends. She chats with him and things end amicably. But, moments after he leaves the party, a shot is heard and the partygoers find Jaime, dead of an apparent suicide, in his car. Kiki believes that something must have happened to him because she can't believe he would have killed himself.

Kiki heads home to NY, but she can't get Jaime out of her head and between guilt and knowing that something doesn't smell right so she decides to go back to Connecticut and find the truth. As she gets closer to the truth, the more danger she finds herself in.

There were some good plot twists and red herrings in this book. It was an enjoyable story. I wasn't as captivated with it as I have been with many other thrillers, but it was still a good book.

I was extremely hopeful for this book. Being from Connecticut and loving the mystery vibes, it was perfect. It did take me some time to get thru it and I felt myself having to put it down and coming back to it. About half way thru, it picked up for me and I got more into it and needed to know what really happened to Jamie at the party.

This was not a book for me. Although it was a fast read it just didn’t do it. I couldn’t connect with the characters and it just wasn’t to much of a thriller.

I enjoyed this book, but the end felt disappointing- ultimately, I was expecting a shocking twist that just didn’t manifest. Otherwise, it was a mildly entertaining read. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy!
