A short collection of poems full of nostalgic memories of being young in the 90's. Some standouts for me were Candy Lips, Womanhood, American Lipstick, Penpals and Perennial. An enjoyable collection of work.
The title tells you what's up with this collection, and it does pretty much stick to the theme. I think a lot of the stylistic choices for the poems weren't my style, but I appreciated what the author was doing here. The cover, the title, and theme of the collection are all cohesive.
“Girl Bred From the 90s” is a short collection of poems that brings back the nostalgic memories of being young. There’s a nice blend of long and short pieces that any poetry lover can appreciate. I do wish the overall length of the book was longer because some parts felt disconnected because of how short the book is, however I still very much enjoyed this collection. Thank you to NetGalley and Querencia Press for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
While I do love occasionally reading abstract poetry, I think this was just too abstract. There were moments that I appreciated, but a lot of the time I felt like there was no meaning behind the pretty words - that they were just there BECAUSE they were pretty words.
There was also a lack of pacing variation (in my opinion). All of the poems felt like they were running at the same pace and with the same amount of emphasis. I think I would have enjoyed it more if there were more variation, so it didn't feel like one large piece of writing.
I also expected to feel a sense of nostalgia for the '90s but it didn't really connect for me.
This was a quick read. I was excited to read this as I am a woman who was a girl during the 90s. I was expecting a lot more references from the 90s, but was a little disappointed to find that there wasn't many references. I was hoping to be hit with waves of nostalgia, but unfortunately that was not the case. I always find reviewing poetry difficult becuase I think poems are very personal, but this collection fell a little flat to me.
I thought this was an accessible collection of poetry, musings and thoughts from Olivia Delgado. It's under 50 pages and was an enjoyable, quick read!
"Girl Bred From The 90s" by Olivia Delgado is a mixed experience, blending vivid 90s nostalgia with confusing and sometimes inaccessible poetry. While the collection succeeds in evoking memories of the decade, its attempt at blending various styles often leaves readers perplexed. Despite this, certain pieces brilliantly reflect on the transition from girlhood to womanhood, showcasing Delgado's potential in capturing the complexities of growing up. However, the collection's brevity and abrupt conclusion may leave readers feeling unsatisfied, craving a more complete exploration of its themes. Overall, Delgado's work offers a nostalgic journey with moments of insight, but struggles with consistency and clarity, resulting in a three-star rating.
Mmm molto molto caotico... Alcune cose sono ben scritte e per me che sono stata adolescente in quegli anni è stato un tuffo nel passato... Però altre cose le ho trovate scritte in fretta....
Perhaps it's a personal issue, but I didn't understand this type of poetry or prose very well. However, I did enjoy some parts of it.
This was a short and fun read full of wise words on feminism, growing old, and the land around you. Some of the poems read more as lyrical essays, which was an interesting choice. I will say that the formatting of the ebook we were given was not well done, but the quality of the words inside the book made up for it. I think it was a very unique collection. My review will be on Amazon and goodreads.
This didn’t land with me. I was expecting to get whisked away to the 90s and feel something from that time in my youth. This felt kind of unfinished to me. It’s hard to really give feedback on poetry, but for me it didn’t make me feel anything but slightly confused.
Great quick read. Some lovely nostalgic imagery used throughout which creates images of days gone past. Fantastic read to take a trip down memory lane from roller discos to sleepovers.
Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to read and review
While I appreciated the feminine undertones I didn’t understand most of the poems in this collection. I also had the expectation of a 90s influence and it was lacking.
I received this from NetGalley. Thank you for the read.

Title of this collection is misleading. Thought this collection would include major 90's nostalgic vibes which sadly not the case. Rather this collection talks about the effect media has on a girl while growing up.
Thanks to NetGalley and Querenica Press for access to this title. All opinions expressed are my own
As a woman who was a girl during the 90's, I certainly was seeking some nostalgia. There were some really nice lines and excerpts in this poetry collection. A few felt very conversational and off the top of the head musings. I became so immersed that I was shocked when I reached the end. I wasn't ready to let go of Olivia Delgado's writings. I don't read a lot of poetry but maybe I should get into it a little more this year.

As a 90s child I thought yes a book which is going to throw me back in to that time! But sadly it didn't connect at all to me.
The poems a have a lovely flow to them and are well written, it was enjoyable read and did remind me of things lost in the past. But I sadly didn't connect to it and so resulted in me pick it up and putting it down alot
This collection of poetry didn't quite work for me. There were moments throughout (particularly when the author wrote about her nephew) that were quite magical and lovely. However, I felt like many of the phrases sounded charming when read aloud, but ultimately didn't hold much meaning or evoke any real emotion or feeling. I found myself re-reading certain stanzas over and over, asking, "What are you trying to say here?" I would love to see how the author continues to evolve as a poet, because I do see moments of beauty in her poems.
Thank you NetGalley for the digital copy of this book.
As a 90's baby I was hoping for some major nostalgia, but I didn't get the 90's vibe I was looking for.
Normally I don’t read poetry, but I am a 90s baby and I have melancholy from these years.
It was short but effective. Great book.
short work of poems filled with nostalgia and longing for the girlhood so many of us experienced—filled with conflicting views of how to be (or not be) strong or emotional or needy or pretty or thin etc etc etc. loved this quick read!
