I absolutely loved the first book. It was one of the only 5 star reads last year. This one was not a great follow up.
The first half was awesome and I loved them all getting to know each other but that ending. It was all over the place and it felt forced. I just didn't see it working. Honestly it felt forced.
Loved the first but meh on the second.

How much do I love this book?! I can’t even tell you! This is the perfect sequel and the perfect book if you need a fun, crazy unrealistic romcom.
Wren and Theo had an insane week when they thought that the world was ending. Comet week through the whole world into chaos but these two found each other, but unfortunately they have very different lifestyles. Theo is actually the next King of England so that puts a damper on any relationship they might have. BUT Wren is missing him, actually not kissing her dog but let’s ignore denial. So in a spontaneous road trip to rescue her dog and with a marriage certificate in hand she goes to Canada to steal her dog with her sister and best friend in tow.
If you think that is crazy - just wait for the hijinks that continue and be ready to laugh and want to strangle these two young kids in love. The whole story is a delight and such and easy beach read but you got to read book 1 to appreciate this book. Highly recommend!!

Let me start off by saying, I did not know that this was book two of a duology. I have not read book one. However, though it might have been helpful to have read the first book, it was not necessary. The author did a really nice job of explaining things so that I wasn't lost at all.
The first three-quarters of this book was amazing. I devoured it. The action, adventure, and humor kept this book in my hands, eager to read more. The last part of the book was a bummer though. Very slow and humorless. The resolution was great but I just didn't like the very noticeable downturn in the story.

In this sequel to The Prince & the Apocalypse, the couple who survived a comet together must now deal with their accidental marriage while dealing with the priorities of ruling a country. There is also a plane crash on a deserted island. I found this book to be ridiculous yet fun. I enjoyed reading the banter between the characters even as I thought the plot was unrealistic. I would recommend this as a fun easy read.

I have enjoyed every book that I’ve read by this author. She’s become an auto-read author for me when it comes to YA contemporaries. This was the follow up to The Prince and the Apocalypse which ended on a VERY interesting note, so I was excited to see where the story would go from there. It went in a direction I definitely wasn’t expecting and I liked getting to spend more time with some secondary characters like Henry or Brooke. Of course I loved Comet the dog. I would say I did enjoy the first book more, but this was still a really enjoyable sequel and I’m already looking forward to this author’s next book.

“Blimey, Wheeler. You didn’t need to resort to blackmail. If you wanted to see me so badly, you could have called.”
I would like to thank St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the copy of this eARC. It was a little over a year ago that I finished The Prince and the Apocolypse and was screaming and begging into my review for a sequel and at that point, there was no indication one was coming.
I adored the first novel with my entire heart, and while this one had me rolling my eyes at times, I adored the ride, and wish I could read these again for the first time. Kara McDowell owns my entire heart with how she has crafted her characters and specifically their dialogue. I would happily read an enitre book of them going grocery shopping if I could just have more of them.
What I really enjoyed about this book was the inside look to Theo's family. His siblings each had their own quirks and while their selfishness at times was aggravating I had to remind myself jut how young they were and what they had on their shoulders.
Within the first few chapters they experience one of my worst nightmares and now im delusional enough to believe I too could survive a plane crash. Or that I could survive falling into a volcano. Kidding, but maybe it would put me out of my misery knowing that the series has concluded.
In all seriousness, I don't know how Kara was able to capture me so thuroughly, but she is an autobuy author for me and if you're looking for a fun summer beach read that doesn't take itself too seriously, pick up these books.

I’m about to enter the biggest reading slump of my life again aren’t I… here I am, at the end of Kara’s book again and begging for a(nother) sequel. I am not ready to let them go. I’ll never be ready to let them go. Finding out there *was* going to be a sequel had me squeal in unnatural ways but now the pain of saying goodbye is so much worse.
Full review to come soon, but to the author, if you see this, Thank you for giving me more. I don’t know if it’s Theo and Wren or if you could make me fall in love with anyone you conjure up, but you’ve created a lifelong fan and I can’t wait for my next meet cute with your characters. Cheers.

I had to DNF this one. Normally as a big fan of Starstuck (the disney original movie) I love a good story where a famous person falls for a normal person but this did not cut if for me.
The characters were kind of bland and seem to have very little personality. The writing was not bad but the plot needed more work.

The second in the series to the Prince and the Apocalypse! We start back up right where book number two ended! I missed these characters and I was so excited to delve in again! Beautifully written and the story we all needed!!!

Book two did not disappoint! I love to drop in a book off my normal genres to mix and lighten it up and this was super cute! Absolutely worth the read!

I will not be giving feedback on this title, because I was offered this book by the publisher, but didn't realize it's a sequel. Entirely my fault, but yeah...oops.

"Heir Apparently" is a total winner, picking up right where the first book left off. Wren Wheeler's journey post-apocalypse takes a crazy turn as she deals with her accidental royal marriage and ends up stuck on a tropical island with Theo. The character development is top-notch, especially how they handle their relationship. The supporting cast, including Theo's siblings and Wren's friends, adds so much depth and humor. The mix of romance, adventure, and royal drama is just perfect. "Heir Apparently" is a must-read for anyone looking for a thrilling, heartwarming story with a royal twist.
St. Martin's Press provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All opinions in this review are my own.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Kara McDowell for writing this book. The Prince and the Apocalypse was my favorite book from 2023. I was praying there would be a follow up and I'm so glad to see there was. This book doesn't have the same sense of adventure as the first book but it still has the fun chemistry that we loved from the first book. The characters are still great! The writing is well done! The story is fun! I'm so excited to get this book in physical copy when it comes out!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this sequel! This was just as much fun as the first book, although you have to suspend disbelief for the ways they break Royal protocol and get away with it 😂. All the royals on one plane? They would never! As with the first book, this is perfect for fans of The Royal We and the royals in general. Quick and fun and perfect for summer!

I had hoped that this book would be better than the first, which I trudged through and barely finished. Unfortunately, I actually ended up liking this one even less! I really struggled with the strange back-and-forth that the book had throughout. It didn't feel cohesive at all, and it left me sitting there like "What in the world did I just read?"
I don't particularly recommend this book to anyone who wasn't a fan of the first one, and I'd be hesitant to recommend it to anyone who *did* enjoy the first one.
As always, my thanks to NetGalley for allowing me the access to this Arc.

I really liked Prince and the Apocalypse and have been so excited for this follow up. The covers are great. The premise is really fun. But this second book fell flat for me. It felt like a lot packed into a book. The plane crashes. The events on the island. The events when the get off the island. It felt like every chapter brought in something new so when I got to the end, I was kind of exhausted. I am glad I read it and also glad to see things wrapped up.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a fun beach read. Don't hesitate to pick it up for the summer!

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and author for the copy of this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

When THE PRINCE & THE APOCALYPSE ended, it was one of the moments where I wanted to throw a book so bad, but I would never! I’ve been not so patiently waiting for HEIR, APPARENTLY by Kara McDowell, and I was not let down. Theo and Wren are back with Comet the Apocalypse Dog and new friends for an adventure I did not expect, but I could not stop reading. This is a duology that makes me so happy, and I know I will reread it when I need feelings and laughter.
These characters have my heart, my tears, and many of my laughs. I know the duology is done, but I would not complain if McDowell said, “Hey readers, how about more books about our friends?” I would be the first in line!
You want to think that a series with book one about the apocalypse and book two about a plane crash plus part of the royal family would be ridiculous. Then again, look at the world we live in? At least these books give us a cute dog!
Thanks, Wednesday Books and Netgalley, for the arc!

I FLEW through this book. I stayed up late to finish it and loved it. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting this story to turn into. The plot had me turning page after page. The ending had unexpected endings without being predictable. The last second twist at the end actually caught me off guard. The characters are just SO likable and relatable. I’m sad this is a duology, but would honestly love a story from the perspective of Victoria that’s set after this story had ended.

I'm so glad I got to read an advanced copy of this, because with the cliffhanger from book one, I didn't know how much longer I could wait for book two! I don't want to give too much away with my review - a lot happens in this book that goes beyond the plane crash. If you're a fan of adventure books with pining, romance, and high stakes, then this one is for you.
