Cute story. A little overly dramatic. Pretty clean, romance-wise. Slightly far-fetched. I expected a little more side romances, but was good with Theo and Wren.

This sequel to The Prince and the Apocalypse is packed full of adventure and royal shenanigans. You get to know more of the royal family and a bit of the inner workings of the monarchy. But more importantly, you'll also find out whether or not Wren is married to the King...
Wren is in her first week of college life when she learns that Comet, the dog, is in Canada, and she wants him back. She hatches a plan to get him. She, with Naomi and her sister, Brooke, head up north. But there's a hitch in her plan because Theo is there and the paparazzi are, too... chaos ensues, and she ends up on a plane to London with the royals. That's when the real adventure begins.
This was so fun, and I flew through it. If you're into the whole royal and commoner love story trope, this one is really entertaining. It's farfetched at times, but if you're picking up a book to read purely for enjoyment, this is where it's at. Only catch is you'll have to read The Prince and the Apocalypse first as I don't really think this would work all that well as a standalone.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I may have accidentally read this all in one night! The sequel to a great novel, this one did not disappoint. Lots of adventure and finding oneself. Great YA novel!

Heir, apparently is a quick read about Wren and King Theo. I’m assuming there was a first book that I didn’t read but I did not have trouble following the story at all. It was a fast paced action romance as Wren and Theo are thrown into crisis after crisis while renewing their feeling for each other. Great YA book that I’ll definitely recommend to my students!

This was cute and fun!! Definitely far fetched but it was an entertaining sequel. I love anything involving royals. Would definitely recommend this duology

Y'all. I thought I loved The Prince and the Apocalypse, and then I read Heir, Apparently. This one surpasses.
I'm used to low stakes romances. This one is way high stakes in a few ways:
Are they legally married? Will Theo, Wren, et al. be rescued post the plane crash on a tropical island? And can they do it without driving wedges in every relationship?
And then the romance...ugh. It made my heart so happy. There is a reality show-esque feeling to it for me, as they're on a tropical island, different than the real world for either of them, and with that comes the need to soak up every minute they have. But it's not just the appearance of a tropical vacation; they're facing life and death again.
What I appreciate about this whole setup is that it forces the romance to be completely genuine. There's no chance of anyone just getting caught up in puppy love or infatuation. They have to have hard conversations, see each other in good, bad, and ugly situations. When the love confessions come around, you know they're real and deep. There's, in my opinion, no room for anyone to claim they don't know what love is or that they're too young.
The intimacy is fade-to-black. And the ending? I thought I knew how it was going to end, and then there was a twist, and I thought I knew, then there was another twist, and another one. I had no idea it was going to end the way it does. Which is such a funny thing for a romance, but it works beautifully.
The duology is such an interesting, completely out there premise & I had a blast with it. Which is not something I usually say. My favorites take me on an emotional journey. This one does, in addition to situations that I can't even fathom. It's just...COOL. If you've read The Prince and the Apocalypse & haven't pre-ordered Heir, Apparently, go. If you haven't read the first one, what are you doing?

A fun conclusion to the masterpiece that was The Prince and the Apocalypse. The plot took a turn I was not expecting, and Kara continues to delight with her zany stories.
Thanks to the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my review.

Heir, Apparently is a really fun sequel! That said, the storyline is far-fetched and doesn’t feel reasonable enough to evoke a connection from the reader to really root for the characters.

Cute, fun, g rated romance about a college first-year and the prince she accidentally married over the summer. It’s ridiculous but sweet. I read it in 2 sittings but I read quickly. The beginning is hard to follow if you didn’t read book 1 (I hadn’t), so try to read them in order!
I received an eARC of this from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Quick Summary: A fantastical YA/T romance
My Review: Heir, Apparently by Kara McDowell is book #2 in The Prince & The Apocalypse series. It concludes Wren and Theo's story.
About the Book: The world did not end. Why, then, does it feel so utterly hopeless to Wren? As she prepares to step into her freshman year in college, she realizes that she has some unfinished business to settle with the King of England. All the while, Theo is juggling so many hats. What will become of his American wife?
My Final Say: I don't care if this is pop fiction or not. All I know is that it's darn good. The story stretched itself greatly, quickly becoming unbelievable. Still, it was entirely entertaining. I was on pins and needles, waiting for the outcome. I was not expecting the turn of events.
Other: Readers who enjoy farfetched romances or stories of love between royalty and commoners should enjoy this novel.
Special Nod: I loved that mental health strand, as well as the DM thread. It was a nice touch and provided realistic struggles in a positive light.

Sincere appreciation is extended to the author, to the publisher (St. Martin's Press, Wednesday Books), and to NetGalley. Thank you for granting access to a digital ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. The words I have voluntarily shared are my own thoughts and opinions.

Such a fun concept and amazing rom com – I loved it! Kara McDowell's writing is engrossing and endearing, with characters that you want to root for. I also feel like her depiction of this fictional royal family is believable and engaging. A great read!

Such a fun rom com. I read the whole thing in one sitting and really enjoyed it. After reading the first book I was so excited for the sequel and it did not disappoint.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I knew there would be a part 2, cause that ending for book 1? I enjoyed this it was a one sitting read for me. I could not put it down. IT was a great part 2

Heir, Apparently is a delightful romantic comedy filled with entertaining chaos and charming banter. This high-stakes novel combines fun, romance, and action into one thrilling package that keep me on the edge of my seat. A page-turning rom-com Heir, Apparently is brimming with heart, humor, and unexpected twists.

I didn’t realize this was a sequel, but it absolutely reads like it. Doesn’t stand alone, which really doesn’t work well for our libraries. The writing itself is easy to follow and I’m guessing those who read book 1 will enjoy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the ARC.

Oh, this was a fun sequel, and I'm so happy that I got the chance to read both books back-to-back. In this, we are once again watching Wren and Theo dance with one another when it comes to their feelings. Nothing short of a quick disaster, like a plane going down and being trapped on an island, brings them both closer together. It was cute, and I enjoyed their bantering.
I also really liked getting to see and know his family a bit more. Henry was hilarious, and things could've started off on a better note with Victoria. Then there's Brooke and Naomi tagging along, and it was just very entertaining the entire time. One disaster after another, and I was smiling the entire time.
In the end, certain things had to happen in the way that they did. It helped them realize what they truly wanted in life and focus on what needed to happen next in order for those plans to fall into place. The ending was really cute and I'm really happy that everyone is happy.

I really enjoyed this sequel to The Prince and The Apocalypse. It's perfect escapism, with lovable characters and a story that kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. If you're a fan of YA fiction, you won't want to miss this one!

Picking up a few months after the events in "The Prince & the Apocalypse", the story starts off with Wren at college and unsure about her place in the world. When she discovers that new king Theo is on the same continent (albeit in a different country), Wren decides to head to Canada and reclaim Comet the Apocalypse dog. However, chance encounters and invasive paparazzi throw a wrench in her plans, and Wren finds herself on a private plane to England so The Firm can figure out how to deal with her.
Of course, even that can't go smoothly. One plane crash later, Wren finds herself trekking across a volcanic island with her sister, Theo, and two of the royal siblings in search of civilization and rescue.
There are elements of this story that are absolutely absurd, and a few that are not quite factual. But overall this is an engaging conclusion to the duology, that will have many readers speeding through to the finish line. Overall it is a sweet romance that also tackles the issues of self identity, owning your own fate, and being true to yourself.

This book blew me away. It was totally not what I was expecting. At. All. Royal romance is my absolute favorite genre. But this doesn't stop at romance. It has a bit of everything in it. An end of the world, death defying, on the edge of your seat, crazy adventure. That also has some amazing sweet scenes and memories. As well as incredibly crazy life threatening and changing times.
Just when you think you got this story sorted out in your mind it completely gets flipped around.
Theo and Wren meet when a comet is supposed to take out everything on earth. Doing so many unthinkable things, living out their supposed last days on earth together. Theo, the heir to the throne and Wren, a college student have done everything they can imagine together in one single week.
After the week passes and everyone lives, these two get brought back together months later while Wren tries to rescue her dog from the soon to be king. That's where the mayhem starts. It causes a whole catastrophe of events. Each getting worse than the last.
An incredible book from start to finish.
5 stars. What a rush. Totally team Comet.

This is even better than the first book! After surviving the near-apocalypse and possibly marrying a prince, Wren can't believe she has to go on like life is just normal, enrolling in Northwestern with her BFF and never seeing her "husband" Prince Theo again. So she takes matters into her own hands, but things go a little awry and she ends up in a survival situation with the royal siblings.
Just a funny, sweet, lighthearted book that's comfortingly predictable.
