Firstly, thank you so much to Wednesday Books, NetGalley and Kara McDowell for the chance to read the sequel to The Prince and the Apocalypse!!!!
Since finishing the first book, I just knew there had to be a sequel where Wren and Theo got their happy ending, and that’s just what this was.
Not only to we get to see more of Wren’s relationship with her friend Naomi and sister Wren. But we also get to see Theo with Henry and Victoria.
Honestly I am still processing this amazing sequel and will write a better review when I’m done fangirling over the ending.

If Spare were fictionalized into the tv show Lost with Jumanji adventures, that’s what this book would be. I didn’t read the first book before I received this eARC from NetGalley, but with all the references back to the first book, I think I got the gist of what happened in that. This book would be a romantic adventure for the younger middle grade reader who would get a kick out of the YA level spice and impending disasters, but I don’t think book translates as well for an adult reader of YA.

This was a good follow up to the first book. I loved meeting the new characters and getting more insight into these two. I do think that I would have been like oh Theo isn’t as great as I thought he was and I probably would have wanted to move on. He was annoying in 80% of the book. I liked the high stakes though.

I loved book 1, The Prince & The Apocalypse, so I was so excited to read the sequel! Like The Prince & The Apocalypse, we follow regular American girl Wren and next in line for the throne, Theo. This time, instead of following the pair across Europe as they face the end of the world, we end up on a deserted island after a plane crash. Funny, serious and ridiculous, I would read endless books about Theo and Wren.

I was excited for a second book after the way the first ended. It started off amazing . Packed full of humor and adventure. It started to fizzle out slowly then I felt like it was dragging. Still an important read after the first book though.

Charmingly written and full of wonderfully tense emotional creativity. The story is so gripping and I was emotionally attached to all the characters. I hope there are spin-offs coming.
A special thank you to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to netgalley and publisher for this arc!
I liked the first book and enjoyed parts of this one but I just couldn't get over my annoyance of them never communicating which caused soooo many traumas for them and me reading. Also the ending was all over the place twists and turns too much drama and wanted to see them happy together at last without any mess which they deserved after everything yet they were put through ringer way too much. It's insane the first book I gave 5/5 stars and this 2/5. I just couldn't get over what a mess so many choices were by Theo it pissed me off to be end and made zero sense.

I enjoyed reading this book and found it to very entertaining, but there is almost too much going on. I really liked the plot and the development of the characters, but there were just some moments when I was reading this where I was like "how does their situation just keep getting worse?" One aspect that I really liked about the book was how it not only focuses on the main couple, but also the main character's relationships with his family. I would definitely recommend reading this book, and I enjoyed being sucked into the crazy and often dangerous lives of the characters!

What an enjoyable fun follow up to the Prince and the Apocalypse. I read it in one day - it’s a super fast read- but it’s great being back with these characters in these slightly outlandish situations. At first I had a hard time letting go of reality before I realized my one of my favorites book is about lesbian space necromancers (iykyk) and got over it. The deserted island also sounded super adventurous (every book is a travel book if you read it the right way!). Wren and Theo have great chemistry and it was great to watch them work through their differences together. I will say I found Wren’s self sabotaging frustrating at times despite it being realistic and I would’ve loved an epilogue involving a three flat in Ukrainian village and a romantic outing browsing myopic books. The book also lacked some of the emotional resonance of the first (hard to top an apocalyptic rom com) But these are small complaints in what’s otherwise a fun read.
I received this ARC for free in exchange for a review.

3.5 stars
I’m not sure how I feel about this book, except that I didn’t like it nearly as much as the first book :( the ending sort of lost me, and there were so much unnecessary drama that it sort of stressed me out.
Overall it was pretty fun and I would recommend!

I was impatient for this sequel so I'm glad that this book jumped right back into things! There's a bit of a time skip in between the books so we are seeing Wren and Theo connecting a few months after the comet.
In line with the first book, this one is similarly over the top (there's a plane crash?!) but that's exactly why I love this duology. Highly unlikely events, sure, but that's all part of the fun; there is a ton of action, life threatening situations, and spontaneous decisions that made this book hard to put down. I read this in a few hours and LOVED it!
The tone feels more serious than the first book; whereas before the two really embraced a carpe diem attitude, the world is no longer ending and they have to deal with real life again--not to mention survive being stranded on an island. Theo's coronation day is approaching quickly despite his reluctance to take the throne, while Wren feels directionless as she is about to begin university as an undeclared major. The two of them have a lot to figure out, and while the plot may be unrealistic the relationships certainly feel authentic.
This sequel had a larger cast of central characters, including Theo's siblings, which offered more insight into his upbringing. I also appreciate that this book addresses the morality of the monarchy.
I'm satisfied with the way this wrapped up Wren and Theo's story, though I'd love to read more books about Victoria and Henry!

I loved this book! It was such a fun and unpredictable sequel. It just made it just so fun to read. I so hope this series gets a trio!

I adored the first 3/4, but the last little bit...ehh.
This book started right off with a bang including lots of action and comedy, which is exactly what I came for. It was all completely over-the-top and ridiculous, but that is why I loved it. We got to see a lot more of Theo's family and some more crazy adventures. When I say that I loved it, I mean that I sat down and read and read until a couple of hours had passed and I was 60% done with the book. I just couldn't put it down.
That being said, I was just not pleased with the last little bit of the book. The setting changed back to a more 'normal' environment where Theo and Wren were not together as much. The humor also disappeared here too. It just fell flat, and I will admit that I was not pleased with the decisions that the characters made as well as particular plot points.
Just as with the first book, I would recommend this to older high schoolers/college-age and up.
Overall, I am glad that I read the book and will be eagerly anticipating my preorder in the mail. However, I think that readers could also do just fine only reading the first if there is no burning desire to read Heir, Apparently.

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own and a positive review was not required.

I NEVER preorder books. But I did for this one.

Wren accidentally marries the King of England, Theo. Then their plane crashes and they have to work together with their siblings and friends to make it out alive.
I love the characters although the storyline is not exactly realistic. It's fun... and a great read. It's a sequel although you can follow without reading the first book.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

When I picked up The Prince and the Apocalypse, I fully expected it to be a solid 3 star YA read. It was kind of a bizarre premise-American girl falls in love with prince of England while trying to escape a world-ending comet and get home.
But I absolutely adored it. It was the perfect blend of action, adventure, romance, and just feel good. But it ended on one heck of a cliffhanger, so when I got the chance to read Heir Apparently, it moved to the top of my list.
It was just as perfect as the first book. Not wanting to spoil the first one, I won’t say much. But if you want a heartwarming, romantic, and FUN read, please check these books out. The first one is out now, the second comes out in July.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
5/5 stars

I love everything by Kara McDowell, and this book was no exception. I enjoyed Heir, Apparently so much, that I read it in less than 24 hours.
This book continues the story of the first book, The Prince and the Apocalypse. Wren and Prince Theo are both back to their individual lives, in different countries, after the world doesn’t end. I was instantly hooked by the relationship between Wren and Theo. I continued to be drawn in with the non-stop adventure and the mishaps that Wren often finds herself in. I enjoyed all of the other characters from the first book as well as some new characters that were introduced.. Heir, Apparently is so much fun and never got slow or boring.
I loved the ending of this book. I feel that this could be the end of Wren and Theo’s love story, or it left it open to continue. I would love to see another book that tells the stories of some of Theo’s family as well as a continuation of Wren and Theo’s stories.
I would recommend this book to both teens and adults.

Ever since I heard there was a sequel to the first book, I have been patiently waiting for "Heir, Apparently" to come out. In fact, I was so excited for it to come out, I didn't even read the synopsis before starting it! Well imagine my surprise when Wren and Theo find themselves once again fighting for their lives while fighting their feelings for one another! A welcome surprise it was!
I loved how this book captured the complex late-teenage feelings that so many kids struggle with, while also capturing the whole life- or -death, appolocolyptic vibes. The characters were realistic and fun and while the story line was far-fetched, it was enjoyable from start to finish! Definitely worth a read for anyone who loves teenage disaster books and movies!

I'm so happy that this sequel was written. I loved Wren and Theo in her first book and I was delighted to read more of their story. This had all the things a great YA novel needs and I devoured it with a smile on my face, rooting for this King and his "American girl" 100%. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

"Heir, Apparently" takes readers on a thrilling ride as Wren Wheeler, an American teen, navigates the unexpected complexities of accidentally marrying the King of England. Picking up from the events of its predecessor, the story unfolds with a mix of humor, romance, and adventurous twists that kept me engaged throughout.
The protagonist, Wren, faces the challenges of freshman year amidst the aftermath of a narrowly-averted apocalypse. Her attempt to rescue her beloved dog, Comet, leads to a chemistry-fueled reunion with Theo, the King of England, resulting in a paparazzi frenzy. The narrative thrusts Wren into the royal spotlight, setting the stage for a journey back to London with Theo, accompanied by a colorful cast of characters, including Naomi, Brooke, and Theo's siblings.
I read this book in just a few hours because of how invested I was and because of the fast-paced plot filled with action and romance. This book is so unique with the royalty and romance plot in combination with the stranded-on-an-island subplot; I’ve never read a book before that combined those 2 plots before. While the plot itself is a bit unbelievable (I doubt any government would allow 3 royals (the current king and 1st/2nd in line to the throne) on the same plane together, I was still so invested in the story, especially with the focus being on Theo’s siblings. While I would have liked more of Brooke and Naomi, having the focus Theo’s sister was especially interested. I really enjoyed the character writing of the side characters as well as more of a focus on Theo’s motivations and desires.
This book is filled with little misunderstandings between characters, which are, thankfully, resolved very quickly, and the progression of Theo and Wren’s relationship felt very authentic. I was unsure of how the relationship would proceed after the first book, but this sequel wasted no time in bringing Wren and Theo back together, especially with their banter. The banter is amazing in this book, and I loved how the two of them continued the humor even during extremely stressful times. While the plot is a bit unbelievable at times (which fits with the plot of the first book), I absolutely loved the resolution at the ending of the book. Having some sort of epilogue or side story of Theo’s sister would just be icing on the cake.
I definitely recommend "Heir, Apparently" is recommended for those looking for an action-filled YA book that also offers romance and a slice of royalty. I would give this book a 4.5 (rounded up to 5) stars because despite the little things like the constant misunderstandings, I still really enjoyed this book.
