Jumping into 'Something is Killing the Children', Vol. 7 without prior knowledge of the series can be a daunting experience, and this volume reflects that. James Tynion IV crafts a dark narrative filled with horror and tension, but for new readers, the lack of context can be a significant barrier.

The story centers around Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter, as she faces off against terrifying creatures that prey on children. Tynion's writing is engaging, and the dialogue often carries a sharp wit that lightens the heavy atmosphere. The artwork by Werther Dell'Edera is striking and effectively conveys the horror elements, making the action scenes visually compelling.

However, the plot can feel confusing for those unfamiliar with earlier volumes. Key character motivations and backstory are often assumed knowledge, which may leave new readers feeling lost. While there are intriguing elements - like the exploration of the town’s dark secrets - the pacing can feel slow, and the narrative lacks a clear direction without the foundation built in previous installments.

Character development is another area where this volume struggles. Erica's journey is compelling, but without a deeper understanding of her past and relationships, her emotional stakes may not resonate as strongly with newcomers.

In conclusion, 'Something is Killing the Children', Vol. 7 offers a chilling glimpse into a dark world with solid artwork and engaging dialogue. However, for those not already invested in the series, it may feel like a fragmented experience that lacks the necessary context to fully appreciate its depth. It might be best to start from the beginning to grasp the intricacies of the story and characters.

I adore this series so much, and I'm really sad that this arc is over! I picked Something is Killing the Children up on a whim earlier this year because I wanted some more graphic novels to read during my 28 Books in 28 Days challenge. I had seen one of my book friends recommend this one although I couldn't remember what it was about. I'm so happy to have followed Erica's story so far, and getting to see Erica and Cutter's showdown was an incredible experience.

This was a great final instalment in the arc, and I will absolutely be rereading this series sometime soon. Probably for my next reading challenge!

When this arc started, I felt it was a bit repetitive of the previous story arcs, but it really turned around in this and the previous volume. I think Cutter started out menacing, and then became a bit silly in this book, but that's a minor gripe. I liked the visual echo of young Erica with Gabi.

If I have one complaint, it's that Werther Dell’Edera's art (which is generally excellent) is hard to read in action scenes, sometimes even downright confusing.

Volume 7 is a great continuation of the series and if your a fan of the previous volumes you will love this one too.

Thanks to BOOM! Studios and NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you Netgalley for the prepub! I'm a huge fan of this series, and even seven volumes in it continues to be horrific and fascinating.

This was everything I was hoping for in the next installment of this graphic novel series. Every volume gets better and I cannot wait for the next one. The stuff Erica goes through and the loses that happen to defeat these monsters is crazy but it was such a good read, I finished in less than 2 hours.

I badly need to go back and read the other volumes but the story and art work were very engaging and instantly felt intrigued by the very dark premise of this of this haunting graphic novel. Erica Slaughter follows the same vein of monster slaying heroism that Buffy the Vampire Slayer inspired and is a well conceived and clever hero for kids hunted by things that lurk in the darkness. I would say it pulls no punches, There is none of the lighthearted comedy there was to Buffy. This is straight up gore, blood, and bad things happening to innocent young children and the survivors suffer from guilt and trauma. It might be a trigger for some people who have had tragedy in their life so not for everyone but definitely a new horror classic.

I am really enjoying this series. I am not usually a huge fan of horror, but this I like and the artwork is good.

And New Mexico is probably over. Another child is gone, and this series continues. It’s one tons of awards because it deserves it. This book is a bloody good time and book 8 can’t come fast enough.

Honestly SITC is my fave comic book series. James Tynion IV may be one of my all time fave writers.

I love horror, and the way SITC does horror is next level. I absolutely adore Erica. The way the horror / magic works in this world is so interesting. There's a lot of deeper themes as well, like beloninging and sense of self.

SITC is also the first comic book series that got me reading single issues. I'm so eager to see how it continues.

Dell'Edera is an insane illustrator and it fits the vibes of SITC so well!

So many emotions and brutal action scenes. Erica's desperate fight for Tribulation and the chilling presence of the Duplicitype left me wanting more. Can't wait to see where the story goes next! *These need to be read in order.

The Tribulation arc comes to an end, and it's as bloody and heartbreaking as I expect of this series. I'm both eagerly awaiting and dreading what's up next for poor Erica Slaughter.

These always leave me on the edge of my seat. I never see what is coming. Can’t wait for the next installment.

First, I want to thank NetGalley and BOOM!Studio for allowing me to read this book in exchange for a review.

Okay, so Something is Killing The Children and Me? It's a big love story. I started this series in France when it came out in the paperback edition, and immediately fell in love with the story. I thought this one was the last volume, so I took my time to read it (I have a problem with finishing a series that I love). But I guess not.

What did I think of the volume thought? Well, the not-so-rational part of me wants to scream and keysmash, but I won't. I think this one is the perfect conclusion for all this arc. We have tension, fear, emotions, and blood, and until the last page, we can't be sure if our favorite character will survive. I loved seeing Erica's character evolve through the series, and I can't wait to see what will happen to her next (if we see her of course).

Also, I can't wait to see what will happen with Gabby's "cousin" (sorry I'm bad with names). Can we talk of this ending? Will she be the next main character? What about the House of Cutter?

I closed this book with joy, anticipation, and excitement for the next volume or spin-off. As always, James Tynion IV rocks.

‘Something is Killing the Children: Volume 7’ by James Tynion IV with art by Werther Dell’Edera is the final volume in the graphic novel series and collects issues 31-35 of the comic book series.

The people of the aptly named town of Tribulation have been a lot. Erica Slaughter has just narrowly survived the Duplicitype, but there is still work to be done as Cutter seeks revenge. Add in the still living Duplicitype wearing Erica’s face to add chaos and horror. How will it end? Or will it?

There are some good showdowns and fights in this final volume, but it all feels a bit rushed. The art here is as solid as it has been throughout the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a re-read for me because I've already read all the issues of this volume but I still liked reading it for a second time. This graphic novel has become a favorite of mine since I started it and I will be following it until the end.

This is the conclusion of the Cutter storyline. It's both satisfying and bittersweet. I wouldn't recommend starting with this volume. These do need to be read in order from the very beginning for full enjoyment. The artwork is savagely gorgeous.

**I received an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. (But ended up reading this in print because I definitely overestimated my eyeball's ability to read a graphic novel on a small phone screen)**

This has become one of my favorite graphic novel series. It’s full of bloody battles with creatures not everyone can see and a hero you want to root for.

A fantastic conclusion to this storyline. Intense, emotional, gritty, dark - and at the same time, clever, witty, and fun. (I'm sorry, I'm just delighted by the way this volume played with western tropes.) James Tynion IV is consistently my favorite comic writer, and I can't wait to see where the story goes next!
