Kiersten Modglin, once again, does not disappoint! This book about books is a good twisty mystery that kept me guessing until the end. As I am a person who is a huge reader, and reads and watches (BookTok, etc) book influencers, I could totally relate. At a few different points in the plot I thought perhaps it was predictable, but then it turned around and wasn't what I thought at all. Well developed storyline and is very well written. The narrator, at times, was a bit too shrill - but not enough to take away from the compelling story.

Modglin does it again! She never fails to write the most addicting thrillers. I loved this one especially because of the themes around book influencers. It was so fun to experience their reading getaway weekend with them. I also enjoyed the side characters personalities and banter. The plotting was fast-paced, and things once things started getting weird the suspense really builds. It kept me guessing the whole time and I was so invested. The romantic tension, enemies-to-lovers, was really fun. The ending went a little off the rails, but I appreciated the intention behind it. I didn't love the narrator for this one as much as I did for some of her other books. The voice came across a little forced, and didn't sound natural. But I loved the story and I’ll read everything she writes!

I am sorry - this one wasn't for me.
What Worked:
Concept of 6 book influencers coming together for a weekend getaway
Fast, easy listen - 6 hours on audio
What Didn't Work:
Everything Else
First of all, the title has nothing to do with the story? Did I miss something?
Characters supposedly in their mid 20s but read like YA characters - someone even said "Hey kids" to them at one point
One-dimensional characters & underdeveloped plot points
The twist or reveal or whatever you want to call it - ick!
The last line...eye roll
I feel really bad about this one - kudos to the author for trying to make a message out of the reveal but that just didn't work for me and I literally said "REALLY" out loud. This just didn't work for me. I see the author has a ton of books and some very loyal fans so I may be an outlier but oh this one just was rough.
Thank you to Netgalley & Dreamscape Media for this advanced listen in exchange for my honest (sorry!) opinion.

I’m a huge Kiersten Modglin fan but this one just didn’t hit as well as others for me. Overall, it was pretty mid. It’s not my least favorite from her but it definitely wasn’t anywhere near my favorite.
I was really excited about the concept for this one with it being about book influencers who meet up on a trip. But, the main storyline seemed a bit lackluster and the twist ending didn’t deliver. Seemed to be more focused on making a statement about a controversial topic (won’t say what as to not spoil the ending) than anything. I think the epilogue was supposed to be a funny silly gesture between the characters but it actually seemed kind of mean?
I listened to the audiobook of this one and I also just wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator. She failed to convey the characters emotions well and I wasn’t a fan of her switching voices constantly for all the characters.
*Thank you to NetGalley and DreamScape Media for the ALC of this!

I was interested with the bookstagrammers meeting up for the first time in real life storyline. That’s where it really ended. Some of the characters were annoying. I’ll say the audiobook didn’t help that fact either. When the narrator would switch up their voice it just didn’t help. I didn’t care for the twists or the ending as well.

I wanted to love this. I love Kiersten. Unfortunately whodunnit thrillers are just not my thing. Overall it was fine just nothing I’m going to be thinking about in a few days.

I have become a big fan of Kiersten Modglin’s books. The way she writes always keeps me interested and I find them to be quick reads, but this book was a big miss for me.
The beginning started off well, I liked the idea of the book influencers meeting up for a weekend getaway. I found most of the characters forgettable/interchangeable.
The twist was…so strange. It was so bizarre, not at all what I expected. I also hated the main character’s business decision in the epilogue. I think it was supposed to be a cute thing she was doing but in real life it would be mean.
I was also not the biggest fan of the narrator. She had a lot of energy and I appreciate that more than monotonous reading, but it was a little over the top.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Wowww! From the very beginning I was hooked on this story. The narrator did a phenomenal job with the voice for each character. I love all of the books by this author. They are always easy to read and entertaining. Definitely recommend to all my fellow thriller lovers.

6 Book influencers plan a getaway to hang together, read and make content! How fabulous, what a fun idea. I wish I had been a book influencer when I was younger ....
Like all vacations-gone-wrong, they are the last to know that there is an issue. The house is located in a small town, very far away from any transportation. No easy uber, no nearby restaurants. Their host, the man who pulled it all together is absent due to a death in the family. The group is still game, however, and have a fun first night. When they look over next door...they are a little afraid of what they see.
I loved 90 percent of this book and you will too! I see the metaphor of it all, but it did't quite work for me. I would still highly recommend to all influencers, Kmod fans and vacation gone wrong fans! #StacyGonzalez #dreamscape #Kmod #Keierstenmodglin

A group of 6 book influencers finally have a chance to meet up and are staying at a house together for the weekend. When the organizer of the event randomly cancels and the group starts to hear weird sounds throughout the night, they realize something is not quite right.
I really liked the concept of this story and was super intrigued to see where the story would go. However this one was not my favorite compared to the author’s other books. Kiersten Modglin has become one of my favorite thriller authors and I have gotten to know her normal style of books and this one felt a little more over the top than the others, besides one called the Dinner Guests. This felt kinda similar to the writing style of that one.
I didn’t love the narrator for this audiobook. I felt she didn’t quite capture the emotions of the characters or went a little overboard with some of the voices. While they were not my cup of tea, you might enjoy it!
Overall while it still was an easy listen, the overall story was just a bit too over the top for my liking, but it could very well honestly be a view point for some people out there, so nothing really shocks me anymore!
Thank you Dreamscape media and netgalley for the ARC. This will be published on February 27th, so if you want a fun almost campy thriller, add it to your TBR!

The idea of this novel, which revolved around book influencers getting together on a holiday, really appealed to me. Books about books are something that I adore. For me, this got off to a fairly strong start, but it started to drag after a while. The plot just didn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. I thought it was a miss overall, but it had some nice moments.

This is the first book I’ve read about book influencers and I enjoyed the story for the most part. It’s your classic take on witnessing something and then being sucked into a situation you could never have prepared yourself for. There was definitely a twist I wasn’t expecting, but if I’m being honest, I thought the reason behind everything that happened was a bit unbelievable. That did take away some of my enjoyment and dropped my rating from 4 stars to 3 stars instead.
I listened to the audiobook and I really did not enjoy the narrator’s voice at all.

If hold my beer, and watch this was a book. Wild and crazy ride.. such a fast paced novel. I honestly think it may have been too quick and fast. I never really was able to settle into the story. I did enjoy the ending though. I think fans will be split but for me I felt like Ms. Modglin was making a statement bigger than this novel and the message was heard, loud and clear. I do have to say this wasn't my favorite Kiersten Modglin novel but sure remains an automatic read for me. The narrator did a pretty good job. At times I thought voice inflection was a bit strange. Overall a well narrated book.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read and review honestly an advanced listening copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscapes Media for this audiobook ARC opportunity!
If you are a fan of Kiersten Modglin, you might agree this wasn’t a typical storyline for her. When I stepped away from thinking about who wrote the book, I was able to embrace it more. I found myself, as an avid reader of Kiersten’s novels, waiting for the big twist and big reveal, and I didn’t receive it. I can see how this frustrated readers. I didn’t quite like the ending, and didn’t feel it made enough sense or was enough of a “reason”. (Without giving away spoilers)
Pros were: the narrator was great, her expressive presentation kept the story interesting, and I do believe if I read versus listened to the book the score might have been lower.
I did keep listening because I was waiting for something to happen. At times there was a creepy vibe I appreciated and I wanted to know how it will all turn out. Though I’d rate the book as average, I did read it in 3 days, which tells me it kept my interest. I do wish there was more of a twist or shock.
I will of course continue to read and listen to Kiersten‘s books. I think she took a chance here and though it fell flat for me I know she will write another book in the future with a shocking twist.

3.5/5

When six book influencers decide to (finally) meet in person, what can go wrong? Well, apparently, a lot. One of them suddenly cancels and isn't answering his calls. Two of them have an awkward and recent history, and the next door neighbors seem to be up to no good. Toss in a teeny tiny and super odd town, and what can go wrong? This is surely not going to be a weekend any of them will forget...
This was a super classic KMod book, in all the best ways! Slightly a slower burn than usual, but still such a quick and atmospheric read. I was hooked instantly by the book influencer plot; it's so fun to read about the bookstagram world! Honestly, it was impossible to put this down once I started! I loved the surprising dynamic of Memphis and Lena's flirtationship -- it was so fun to read! Tension was built throughout the story and, while I knew something had to go wrong (this is KMod, after all) I was shocked by the ending! Great twists and plot development for such a quick story. Not my fav KMod, but still great!

Wow I love this. It was so weird and creepy. They are just trying to have a good weekend with their friend and talk about books but the town is weird, the house is weird, and then the murders happen.
I loved the ending especially!
The narration was prefect, as I expected.

This is about 6 online book influencers who meet up in person for a weekend retreat. The house they rented is in the middle of nowhere, and when one of the group sees something through the neighbors window things start to go horribly wrong
KMod always delivers fast paced, thrilling reads and this was no different. I listened to it on audio and the narration was great albeit a bit over top with some voices.
I was completely invested and understood the message she was trying to get across about Bookstagrammers needing balance between creating content on social media and not losing the joy in reading great books.
Unfortunately the ending just didn't work for me. That twist was such a let down after so much build up, and the clever plotline.
I still love KMod and will continue to read her books.
Thank you to netgally and Dreamscape Media gir the advanced copy My review was voluntary.

What a crazy story! In true Kiersten Modglin form I never saw the end coming. I loved the characters so much. It was so good and I was invested from the beginning.
A group of online friends and book influencers plan a weekend getaway to finally meet in person. One of the group witnesses a crime and her love of solving mysteries takes over. It takes an ominous turn and what happens next is crazy.
I cannot say enough good things about this story. Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this book.

Six book influencers gather for a weekend getaway to connect, collaborate, and relax. However, right off the bat something doesn't seem right about the small town they're staying in. The behavior of the occupants of the town gives off an eerie feeling. A situation occurs with their neighbors that turns what was supposed to be a weekend of relaxation into something of terror. The group has to work together to figure out the truth of what they saw and what truly happened, before it's all too late.
I liked the narration and flew through this book, only to find myself sorely disappointed by the end.
The story itself had promise but I just didn't like the characters to care enough what happened to them. The fact this a short novel did not leave much time for character development and the ending came in fast, rushed and unfortunately, was not the way I envisioned the novel going.
I am still a big fan of Kiersten's but this one didn't hit the mark for me.
I think the big shocking twist was kind of weird. I think because there weren't any clues to it and it was just an "out there" explanation. I still enjoyed this one and the mystery throughout!
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
