Thank you to Netgalley, Bloom Book publishing, along with the author Lucy Score for letting me read and review this book advanced readers copy. The Corpse In The Closet by Lucy Score is a four star read and second book in the interconnected Riley Thorne Series. The publication date of this book releases to the public on Tuesday April 16th 2024. This book was thrilling, entertaining and had a sweet romance added to it. The Corpse In The Closet has great humor, banter, and adventure with mystery added all together.

"Summer is heating up for reluctant psychic Riley Thorn and her handsome private investigator boyfriend, Nick Santiago."

"You stupid walking hamburger! I’m going to shoot you between the eyes and turn you into a roast!” the woman howled."

“When you’re in a relationship, isn’t part of the fun being able to tell the other person what they can and can’t do?”
“Yeah, when you’re the woman.”

This book was all around amazing!

This is the second book of the Riley Thorn series and it starts off pretty much right where the first one ended. All of the loveable and zany characters are still around, with a few new faces showing up. The mysterious aspect of the story is just as intriguing as the first book and the pace of everything keeps it all following quite well.

Riley Thorn and her crew return in "Riley Thorn and the Corpse in the Closet," a light-hearted mystery filled with humor, quirky characters, and even a flatulent dog. While this book can be enjoyed as a standalone, delving into the first book, "Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door," enhances the experience.

The banter between Riley and her boyfriend Nick Santiago adds a delightful dynamic to the story, along with the introduction of Nick's family and the appearance of Riley's grandmother. The novel maintains its charm but for some, the pacing may have felt a bit drawn out.

Overall, despite feeling slightly lengthy, this installment in the Riley Thorn series offers an enjoyable and entertaining read, sure to bring a smile. While it may not have captivated as much as the first book, the promise of a third installment keeps the anticipation high.

Rating: 3.5 stars

I enjoyed the first book of this series - but this one just wasn't for me. Riley Thorn's psychic abilities and her relationship with private investigator Nick still offer some charm, the once lovable characters now come across as annoying, and the romance between Riley and Nick lacks the spark it had in the previous book. The mystery elements feel disconnected and less engaging, making it hard to care about the outcome.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

The last thing Nick wants is for Riley to get involved in another murder investigation. She is a reluctant psychic who was almost murdered a couple of months ago. The body count is going up and someone has to solve these murders before Riley becomes the next corpse. Thanks to @NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I really enjoyed it!

Riley Thorn and Nick Santiago are back in another paranormal mystery / romance. I absolutely fell in love with these characters in the first one and I couldn't wait to see where they ended up in the second. The Corpse Next Door picks up right where the first left off. Riley is helping Nick with a missing persons case while also being asked to assist the police in a murder investigation.

I am absolutely obsessed with the crazy gang that live in the same place as Riley and Nick, they are the purest and best form of comedic relief and honestly, I would love to hang out with every single one of them. They continuously had me laughing throughout this entire book. I love Nick, but his overly possessiveness became a bit tiresome after a while. Thats not usually the most endearing trait so it definitely became a lot for me. Riley's family, especially her grandmother, can also be a bit too much within the storyline. I like most of her family (besides her grandmother - she can go kick rocks), but they can also just be a bit much at times. Riley is just Riley and I will always love her.

This story is an interesting one and I really enjoyed how it was all pieced together in the end, but this one fell way more into the romance genre than the mystic/paranormal mystery I was looking for. Don't get me wrong, the supernatural gifts were used, and this is definitely a mystery / murder mystery - I just wanted more ghosts and death and less of the trying to figure out where to have sex predicaments... The story itself has a nice steady pace throughout so you're never bored. There are great suspenseful parts at the end which I really enjoyed and once again, how this story tied together was great!

Overall, this is a fun series. I found this to be a good read. I wanted more out of it sure, but I still enjoyed it and this is definitely a series I will want to continue with. The Corpse In The Closet was re-released 4/16. Be sure to check out this series if you enjoy paranormal aspects / mystery and romance. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Lucy Score, Sourcebooks and Bloom Book for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was such a fun twist on modern romcoms! Lucy Score always knows how to keep me laughing and turning the pages!

It did take me a minute to get into this book, but once I did I was highly invested and looking forward to the sequel!

You can never go wrong with any Lucy Score book, they’re fun read with a hint of spice and good story line! I can wait to finish the series!

It just wasn't for me. I found it a challenge to get into it from the start as I noramally find it challenging to get through books written in the 3rd person. A few chapters in and I still wasn't connecting ended up not finishing it. I did not realize this is a sequel which likely contributed. If you like mystery with your romance then maybe start with the first book in the series.

Perspective: 3rd person

Thank you to netgalley and Bloom Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I liked this more than the first one, but I still had a hard time reading it. I found the writing to be choppy and aimless at times. It did not keep my interest. Also, I do not like the cover art.

Thank you, NetGalley, for a copy of “The Corpse in the Closet” by Lucy Score.

Riley Thorn is at it again. While she tries to live a normal life, her psychic abilities want otherwise. She and her Private Investigator boyfriend, Nick Santiago, are just learning to navigate life as a couple newly living together in a home with a gaggle of elderly folks with very different personalities. Riley’s grandmother, Elanora Thorn, arrives to help/force Riley to train her abilities and take them seriously. Riley is propositioned by Detective Weber, Harrisburg PD, to help him solve a murder using her abilities. Nick on the other hand is trying to find a missing neighbor. While Riley attempts to help both Nick and Detective Weber, overprotective Nick takes some measures to keep Riley safe when she is not with him. It seems like Riley’s abilities cause trouble to find her and the body count continues to rise. Is she next? Why did she receive a “gift” from the killer that has now put the end of her life on the clock and time is counting down.
I am in love with these characters and the storylines. The personality of each character is different and hilarious. I love the witty banter that they have amongst one another and some of the things they say have me cracking up! Lily and her boy craziness, Mrs. Penny and her vigilante take no crap mindset, Nick’s typical sexual man comments, and Riley’s sarcasm. While there are so many characters that I love, there are a few that I’d like to smack, such as Riley’s grandmother, Nick’s parents, and Blossom and Rogers’ neighbor, Chelsea. However, the way Nick and Riley stand up to these characters with their sarcasm and love for one another is great. I enjoyed the mysteries investigated and the building details, hints, and connections as everything starts to come together. While this book isn’t super spicey, there is spice and spicey conversations that continue to build the chemistry of Nick and Riley’s relationship. Throughout this story, Nick and Riley experience several interruptions as they attempt to get “closer” to one another but the way they handle these interruptions just make you fall in love with them as a couple more and more.
I cannot wait to read the rest of this series. I found myself laughing or smiling throughout this book and the first book. So much so, my husband made fun of me. This book should really be read after book one, Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door, as there are many connections to things that occur in the first book but if the reader reads this book as a standalone, they would still be able to follow the story just fine. They may just not have the full connection with all of the characters.
Thank you SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this book and provide my honest opinion.

This is definitely a different book from others I've read by Lucy Score but I was hooked from page one!

It's quirky, it's fun, and add in a psychic and a murder mystery? Sign me up!

It's written really well and is a perfect cozy read.

I am not one to usually read rom-coms, as I have always been a thriller kind of girl. But with Lucy Score's book The Corpse in the Closet, that all might change.

I didn't realize that this was a second book in a series, but I think it's a pretty good stand alone read and I will now be getting the first book in the series.

I was hooked from the first few pages. I loved how loveable, personable and goofy the characters were in this book. The mystery aspect of this book was really fun and easy enough to follow along with. I did feel like the mystery was a little easier to figure out than most books, but I think this book is more rom-com than it is mystery.

This book was so well written, not to mention a really fun read. I am off to get the first book and can't wait to read this whole series. I think I may have found a new automatic buy author!

Chef's kiss to Lucy Score

I absolutely love Lucy Score and this series has not disappointed. I love the characters. They are witty and this was a good time to read. Riley Thorn psychic and her boyfriend Nick Santiago is a PI, you wouldn't think that they would work but they do. So enjoyable. Can't wait to drive in the rest of the series.

Lucy Score's books are always filled with intriguing subplots, quirky characters, humor, and steamy romances. This book is no exception. However, I feel like the Riley Thorn series falls on this side of too quirky. I lost it at the erotically-themed fireplace poker, and not necessarily in a good way. Still, I really enjoy this series and will happily continue reading it.

This was yet another hilarious installment of the Riley Thorn series! I am not sure what I love more, all of the witty banter or the funny and quirky characters! I'm semi new to the rom-com genre and this one did not disappoint one bit!
