Sarah J Maas does it again! Her characters are full of dept and the story reads fast with lots of twists. Just loved it!

I loved this one better than the first. Probably because of all the Chaol feels. The writing is fast paced, enticing, and I'm ready for the rest of the series!

"Throne of Glass" is one of my favorite debut novels *ever*, and I was ecstatic to read "Crown of Midnight," which did not disappoint. It kept me on the edge of my seat, thickened the plot and mystery set up in the first book, and was essentially unputdownable.

My library owns a copy of this book.
Sarah J. Maas is very popular among teens and some adults as well.
Her books are make up of high action, adventure and romance.
I always recommend her books to any teen looking for something to read.

I liked Celaena

DNFed @5%I liked Celaena enough in book one to want continue this book, but as with book one, I still find it hard to believe that she was a notorious assassin. The characters frustrated me with the secrets and lack of communication (though I understand that they're working towards their own goals). For me, however, this is the end of the road with this series.

4.5/5

I wish I'd had more time to read this, but I think if I'd really and truly loved it, that I would have found a way to finish it quicker. Still, I absolutely love this series and this one tore at me even more than the first book, which really seems impossible.

P.S. I've always been Team Chaol and will continue to be.

You guys, why did I ever expect a happy ending from Sarah J. Maas? I really should have known better but I was still completely unprepared to have my heart broken by this series for the billionth time! Crown of Midnight was full of shocking twists, horrifying betrayals, and more secrets than I could possibly keep track of.

So Celaena became the King’s Champion and now she has to put her badass assassin skills to use for someone she absolutely hates. Not only that, the king has her killing people for really dumb reasons and Celaena can’t stand it. She may be an assassin but she’s always been able to choose which contracts she takes and who she actually kills. She no longer has that choice. What’s even worse is that her friends now look at her differently because of what she is forced to do for the king. Nehemia, Chaol, and Dorian don’t like the person she has become but she’s really not different, she just acts like she is. Celaena definitely puts on a front for the king, acting completely unaffected by what she does. Underneath that facade she does have feelings though and she hates what she does. She’s the same person she’s always been and she has one goal in mind: her freedom. If that means she has to appear to be working for the king, she will do it and she won’t put her friends lives at risk by telling them what she’s really doing. She may be selfish at times but Celaena is a loyal friend, that’s for sure.

Nehemia, Chaol, and Dorian really tested my limits this time around. Nehemia really bothered me at times. I understood where she was coming from when she tried to get Celaena to stand up for what was right but she was downright mean about it sometimes. Nehemia’s people were being tortured, enslaved, and killed so she definitely had a right to want to fight for them and to be upset but she took things a little too far when she called Celaena a coward. Chaol didn’t bother me all that much but he made some mistakes when he kept certain things from Celaena. Things could have been prevented if he just bothered to talk to her. I’m not saying everything that happened could have been prevented but definitely some things. Dorian, on the other hand, really impressed me. Dorian is a prince but he is so far from spoiled. He is smart and talented and kind and if he is allowed, he will become a great ruler. I still don’t necessarily think he should be with Celaena but she could do a lot worse.

Speaking of who Celaena should end up with… I’m truly torn here. Chaol is a great guy and I loved seeing his relationship with Celaena evolve but there are just certain things about him that I dislike. He has a problem accepting all aspects of Celaena and I hated that. She is who she is and he should not want her to change in any way. I felt that at least Dorian accepted all of her. They still work better as friends to me but I could understand why she might fall for him, if that ever happens.

The story is so twisted and convoluted. I powered through this book when I probably should have taken my time with it. Sarah J. Maas layers so many things throughout her stories that sometimes it takes a second glance to realize what exactly is happening and what it could mean for the future books. I continue to be impressed with her storytelling skills.

I feel like at this point I don’t even need to say this but I’m going to anyway; nothing and nobody is safe. I knew from other peoples’ reviews and reactions to Crown of Midnight that something big was going to happen and it was going to affect the fate of one of the main characters. I didn’t know which one and I truly did not expect what happened. I was stunned. Sarah J. Maas makes you fall in love with her characters and then completely destroy you when you least expect it. I love her and hate her for that.

Overall, Crown of Midnight does not suffer from second book syndrome. This series does not lose an ounce of momentum in this sequel. It sets things up for an epic third book!

One of the best reads in 2013 and all time. The character progressions moved in a way that was familiar, only for Maas to change it completely. It became unexpected, making my excitement increase. I was drawn in by the characters and the unique world, and stayed for the amazing story plot.

And that ending! THE ENDING! One of the best of all time.

Worth the wait, definitely.

I read this years ago and completely forgot to review this. I checked Goodreads and only gave it a star rating. I love Sarah's writing and Caelena is one of my favorite heroines in fantasy. The twists and turns she takes us on that leads us to an ending that will turn the story around.

Typically, I'm a little nervous when I pick up a sequel. Is it going to be as good as the first book? Am I going to be disappointed? This often leads me to put off reading it until I've mentally prepared myself in case it isn't good. But with Crown of Midnight, I wasted no time. It downloaded on my Kindle, and I was ready to read it RIGHT THEN! Because I knew Sarah Maas wasn't going to disappoint me.

This book is amazing. I could leave my entire review right there and be done, because really, that's all you need to know. Pick. This. Book. Up. I'd recommend it to people who liked (and disliked) the first book, because this one is better. Celaena is even more hardcore. There's more action, more romance, and more magic.

I was really surprised by Celaena in this book. She's so BA, it's hard to handle her sometimes. I would read the page, then reread it to make sure she'd just done what I thought she had. I love how flawed she is, how Maas has written her to be so torn and conflicted. I liked her in Throne of Glass, but I loved her in Crown of Midnight. (Also, side note: unreliable narrators for the win! I was really thrown at the end. Loved it!)

The romance was, of course, wonderful. All of us Chaol fans released a contented sigh in unison during his swoony scenes with Celaena. I think I might have squealed a little bit. I know I was grinning like an idiot whenever those two were in a scene together. I'm not ashamed to admit it.

But the standout for me was *surprisingly* Dorian. I didn't feel as connected to him in Throne of Glass, but I was totally in love with him in this book. He has new challenges to face, and I really liked him separately from Celaena, the character arc he has independent from her and Chaol. I felt the most sympathy for him, and I can't wait to see what the next book holds for him. (Becoming king maybe? Please?!)

Bottom line: everyone needs to read this book! Even if you had some issues with the first book, give this one a chance. It's even better, and I think readers will really enjoy Celaena's edginess that's so highlighted in the sequel. Sarah Maas has definitely proven herself to be one of my favorite YA fantasy authors!

This series has sucked me in and this book is just as amazing as the first one. I mean Celena is so fierce and plays no games. I love how strong she is and how she also thinks of others with all she has been through. I mean the author creates a world like no other and it sucks you in and makes you not want to leave. I love that we even got some romance and the author didn't do the normal love triangle route. I cant wait to see what the next book will bring.
