The book follows along from the perspective of several women and their journey through health, mystery, and murder. at times, there is too much going on and you can get lost in the timeline with flashbacks or catching up on simultaneous actions. By half way through the book, you'll have the twists all figured out and want to speed through the rest to confirm.

Dear Lord Saphy was dang annoying. So, the summary of The Patient sounds great!! Unfortunately, the reality is a tale of near obsession once Saphy realizes that she received Flora's heart in a transplant. Oh, did I mention Flora was famous? Anyways, I felt that the characters were well-developed, but the total annoyance I had with Saphy just took away from the story. Once Saphy meets Flora's family, well, I had a difficult time liking her at all. The story lagged in my opinion a bit, especially in the beginning, but thankfully picked up nearer the end of the story.

The narration was well done, and I definitely feel that it gave life to the characters.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Bookouture Audio for the chance to listen to and review this ARC.

The Patient is the story of a heart transplant recipient who ends up connecting with her donor's family. As the young woman learns more about her donor and the circumstances surrounding her ultimate demise, will her inquisitive mind lead straight into danger?

Sarah Durham does a good job narrating the novel, with good inflection and a smooth delivery. The story itself is where I have issues, as it is entirely too long and repetitive. The twists and turns, side plots that compete with each other for space, take over and detract from the novel overall. This book is less about transplantation than about the attack on Flora, with the mystery that surrounds it.

I liked the idea of The Patient more than the actual novel, as the author spent too much time building up to the conclusion. By the time the book got to the end, I no longer cared much about what actually happened. For this reason, I would be hesitant to recommend The Patient to other readers.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Audio Copy of The Patient by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to listen to and review this book was entirely my own.

This pov high quality audio tells the story of a heart transplant paitent who has the heart of a famous girl.
The blurb hooked me and I gueese gave me high expectations. I found the dialogue highly questionable in places and very distracting. The pacing was off for me it was the last 20% that the action and reveal occured. It was more like a drawnout drama with elements of wanting to live the life of the deceased. The twists were predictable but the narrator did a good job with the material.
This felt overly unnecessary long and it was a struggle to keep listening at times. The characters were too deceloped and the hear and now wS not given the time it needed. If the pacing was better it eould be 4 stars.
Thank you netgallery and publisher and author and narrator

This book was a decent, solid read. The concept/storyline was good and loved the drama. However, the characters were bland and much of the book dragged on. I kept losing interest and frustrated with the main character (Saphy).

Grateful for the audio version of this book as the narrator made the characters believable.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the gifted ARC (audiobook)…as all opinions are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this audiobook. Honestly, I've been thinking about it, and I probably enjoyed this more than I should have. It wasn't strictly logical and I feel like we needed to know more about the characters, but it kept me interested to the end. It probably helped that it was an audiobook, because they did a good job on this, making things more dramatic.

I actually really enjoyed this book. It is very long (100+ chapters) and dragged at times, but sped up REALLY QUICKLY as we got past 50%. What a crazy story! Several well executed twists. I love how everything was set up and came together. I was not a fan of several characters, including the main one, but still liked the story and the writing. Saphy definitely lacked personality, I felt like I did not know anything about her by the end of the book, but I guess it's understandable in her circumstances. I was hooked by the middle and binge listened to the second half!

Thank you NetGalley for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review!

Maybe it was because I did audiobook, but all the characters confused me. I had to go back to the start of the chapter so many times in order to figure out who the narrative was. Overall the storyline was good, but I did kind of see the ending coming. I would still recommend reading it though.

Blurb

I feel the steady thump of my new heart beating inside me. The surgeon said everything went well. But I can’t stop thinking about my the girl who was killed. Her death saved my life. But now whoever took hers is coming for mine…

I can’t believe it when I learn my donor’s identity. The attack on Flora was all over the news. From my hospital bed I read every article, obsess over every word and soon I feel like I know the beautiful girl with flame-coloured hair, adored by everyone around her. Why would anyone hurt someone so perfect?

When Flora’s family reach out to me, I’m unsure. My hands are shaking as I arrive at their grand mansion with its golden stone and sprawling gardens, but they’re warm and welcoming, tears shining in her mother’s eyes as she smiles at me.
She even tells me to take anything I want from Flora’s things, as she can’t bear to go through them herself. I run my fingers over the racks of beautiful designer items, carefully choosing outfits in Flora’s signature yellow, the bright colour complementing the new flush in my cheeks. I think of the years I’ve wasted being ill, and the crushing loneliness I thought would never end. I deserve this.

But then there’s a violent attack on another patient who received one of Flora’s organs. My heart – Flora’s heart – races dangerously fast. Is it a coincidence?
Maybe I’ve made a mistake by stepping into Flora’s life. Has this second chance really saved me? Or has it cost me everything?

My Opinion

Well this book had a lot of drama. This book has a slow pace but it some ways that almost made it a much more interesting book. Told with dual perspectives this is a mixture of crime and psychological thriller. Saphy is invited to get to know the family of her heart donor - Flora. Flora has been murdered but the accused claims that he is not guilty. Will Saphy regret taking the heart?

Rating 4/5

This thriller has a lot going on, but Teri Terry does a great job of structuring it and connects the dots without using coincidence. This is a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that is perfect for fans of twists, turns.

A life saving procedure that changes your life in more ways than anyone predicted.

Saphy needs a heart. Flora has one to give.
But how did they get to this point.

A slow burn.
Family drama meets psychological thriller in the twists and turns in this book.
Character’s were likeable. Storyline believable.

Some parts were predictable but overall a great read.

Loved the unique concept of this book and the mish-mash of characters with mixed motivations and back stories. It keeps the reader on their toes with plenty of potential red herrings. Fast paced with lots of page turning quality.

Gripping and Unexpected!

I recently finished listening to the audiobook , and it was quite an engaging experience. One of the aspects I particularly enjoyed was the format of short chapters, which seamlessly switched between different characters' perspectives. This narrative style not only kept the story dynamic but also provided insights into various viewpoints, enhancing the overall depth of the plot.

The ending of the book took me completely by surprise with its unexpected twist. Terry skillfully crafted the plot to keep readers guessing, and the reveal was both shocking and satisfying. It's rare to come across such a well-executed twist in a psychological thriller, making "The Patient" stand out in its genre.

While I found the story gripping and entertaining, there were moments where certain elements felt a bit exaggerated. However, within the context of the book's narrative, these elements ultimately contributed to the overall tension and suspense, making them work effectively within the story's framework.

Teri Terry's delivered a compelling story with an unexpected twist that will leave readers on the edge of their seats.

Saphi's life is saved when she receives a new heart. From the beginning, Saphi is curious about her donor and can’t believe her luck when the donor’s family welcomes her into their home. Teri Terry has written a psychological thriller that questions how much we truly know about our family and close friends, and what happens behind closed doors. Excellent!

Actual Rating: 3.5/5

Saphy receives a life saving transplant from another young women, Flora. What Saphy doesn't know, is the circumstances around Flora's death and shrouded in mystery. The more she and the donor family dig, the more lies and secrets are uncovered. When other patients that received organs from Flora start getting attacked and dying, Saphy realises she is in serious danger.

The first half of the book is quite slow, overdrawn and some parts didn't seem incredibly necessary. There is a lot of backstory to get through, including lots of friends and family on both sides making it really drag on as we are not only focusing on Flora and her secrets, but Saphy and her upbringing as well. Once we start getting to a little bit of action, the story moves smoothly and was excellent. The last 40-50% felt like a completely different book! Luckily too, as that is what ended up also saving my rating here.

I jumped between audio and ebook for this one, even using both at once during some points. I loved the audio, the narrator did an excellent job to making sure no one was confused for anyone else, she was very clear too.

The Patient is for fans of Kierstan Modglin, Freida McFadden and Stacy Willingham. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Teri Terry for an advanced copy. This one is available now.

I have enjoyed Teri Terry's novels for YA so I couldn't resist trying this novel. It is well-paced with a dual narration and quite short chapters so worked well as an audiobook once I had got used to the format as the constant switching of viewpoints can be harder to keep track of in audio than print as you can just flick back and remind yourself!

The story follows Saphy, who receives a heart transplant from a girl called Flora, who has been murdered. Following the transplant, Flora's family reach out to Saphy and a relationship develops between them. The alternating storyline is told by Fern, Flora's sister. The plot is complicated and there are a lot of characters to keep track of as the story develops, even the most minor ones have a part to play and there were lots of plot twists that I did not see coming as a result of this. I did think Flora's family background was a little too convenient for some of the medical issues that the book addresses, especially to Saphy post-transplant, but it did not spoil the read.

An interesting angle was Saphy's apparent personality changes post-transplant where she clearly begins to become more like her donor and I'm not sure I ever felt these changes are resolved, but they do add to the atmosphere and creepiness of some of the action.

Enjoyable read - and look forward to Teri Terry's next title; whether YA or adult it is sure to be a great read!

A tense mystery mixed with family drama and a dash of the supernatural. I really enjoyed the slower pace of this audiobook as we got to know the protagonists. Saphy has just had a heart transplant, and we witness he reservations pre surgery to her struggles post surgery, both in a physical sense and with her growing obsession with her donor Flora. Flora had been a socialite, troubled lately by destructive secret and was on the verge of sharing it when she was strangled and placed in a coma. The decision to end life support is difficult for her family, and the subsequent decision to donate raises lots of conversation points. In the midst of this drama, Saphy feels her interests being hijacked by the dead girl Flora. Further complications arise with the attack of two other donor recipients from Flora. Saphy then uncovers her own deep family secrets with some corking twists. The ending is menacing, tension filled, and fuelled by family drama. An engaging audio listen. #thepatient #teriterry #audiobook #netgalley

If you're comfortable with darker themes and enjoy the suspense of thrillers, "The Patient" is likely to captivate your interest, even amidst its unsettling subject matter. It hit my expectations on point!

"The Patient" tells the story of a woman who undergoes a heart transplant from a murdered girl. A strange connection forms between them, and as others who received organs from the victim face attacks, she finds herself consumed by worry.

Although the story takes a slow pace initially, the second half unravels into a whirlwind of twists and turns.

Anticipation mounts as the plot thickens, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the outcome.

This is such a dark but compelling story that I could not stop listening to the narration done by #Sarah Durham

4ish stars

This was a weird, kind of dark thriller. The concept was intriguing and reasonably well-executed, and although I feel like I have other ideas or inspiration for how it could have gone in a very different direction, I guess that just means it kept me guessing. It was better than I thought, and I’m looking forward to what the writer creates next.
