this was a wonderfully written historical fiction novel, I enjoyed getting into this world and glad I was getting to read this. The characters worked well in this universe and thought it worked in the time-period. Rose Gonsoulin wrote a great overall story and I was hooked from the first page.

The target audience for this book is Middle School. It introduces students to the life of Sam Houston and the role he played in Texas. I knew nothing about his early life and not much more about his later life. He was an amazing person and someone young people should emulate.
