I don’t even know what I just experienced but it was terrifying, entertaining, creepy and kept me guessing until the very end.

I received an ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Well that was interesting, but I need to know more. Look forward to Netflix version, if it ever comes out. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

This was such an original, creepy, twisty, addicting breath of fresh air. The only description I read before starting this was that Blake Lively will be in the upcoming movie, and that was all I needed to know. I was in. This was not what I was expecting at all, and I loved every second of it.

Eve and Charlie buy an isolated house in a picturesque location, with plans to renovate and flip it. One night, while Eve is waiting for Charlie to come home, a family of five rings the doorbell. The father, Thomas, states that he used to live there and wants to give his family a quick tour, just "fifteen minutes, tops." A hesitant Eve agrees, and what comes next will flip you every which way, not knowing how you ended up there.

This was such an original read that is so rare to find these days that I found myself almost sad it was over, wishing I could read it for the first time again. Not many books have the ability to scare me, but this one is sure to give me nightmares. The author's execution was immaculate. The descriptive writing, the phenomenal character development, the hints dropped throughout, and the beautifully woven web of a story had me baffled that this is a debut. This the work of a professional who knows what they are doing. If you love mystery, suspense, and horror, do yourself a favor and give this one a try. You might just find yourself loving it just as much as I did. Five perfect stars.

Thank you, Netgalley and Atria Books, for this ARC.

It isn't that I was unaware of the delicate web, it's that I was compelled to keep moving forward despite the inevitability of slow demise in the sticky bits.

I struggled to get through this book because it just got too confusing. Perhaps it will work better in movie form.

I really enjoyed this! I was a bit hesitant at the beginning but I got sucked in and lost in this world while I devoured this book! I love that it was a fresh concept and the characters and storyline were fantastic!

I look forward to more!

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Publicity for the arc in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you to Netgalley, Marcus Kliewer, and Simon & Schuster for this ARC in exchange for a honest review! Wow! Ok, where to start with this one. This was a very original idea. But I would call this more of a horror/supernatural genre rather than a thriller/mystery. So I think I went into it thinking it was going to be one thing and it ended up being something very different. That being said, this was a really good book! The writing style is very descriptive. I felt like I was there with Eve the whole time. It gives off a very creepy vibe and I could see it being made into a movie (and it actually is. Starring Blake Lively. So I’m excited!) The down sides to me tho? It’s pretty slow in the middle, Eve is insufferable, and I struggled to finish it. The ending I found to be very anticlimactic. I was left wanting more. But…..the little Easter Eggs that were throughout the book!? Chefs kiss! Took me a minute to figure out there were little clues. I wonder if anyone else picked up on them. And can “decode” them.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of We Used to Live Here.

I didn't know this began on Reddit so I went into this with an open mind and fresh eyes, and I'm glad I did.

Charlie and Eve are a young, queer couple who flip houses for a living. They just scored a killer deal on an old house in an isolated plot of land; it's quiet and kind of creepy but what a deal!

Then, one day a couple arrives with their children, the patriarch saying he used to live at this old house and if he could show his family around. When Eve lets them in, that's when things go awry.

Strange things begin happening, but is it the family's doing or is it the house? Or both?

Or is Eve losing her mind?

I love a haunted house story, and this one definitely had plenty of creep factor.

The excepts from social media and newspaper articles added to the confusion and tension of what Eve was experiencing.

Who are these people? Is Tom a demon? How does his family factor in? Or is it the house?

As Eve's confusion grows, especially as she receives conflicting info about the family from a neighbor and discovers a cache of documents, she isn't sure who (or what) to believe.

The narrative was disconcerting (on purpose), and I don't mind ambiguity but I would have liked a little exposition; a nugget of possibility; for example, a tease to an urban legend proposing what could be happening to Eve.

This type of narrative reminds me of conspiracy plots in shows like The X-Files and Alias, when the conspiracy or mystery starts out intriguing you can't help but believe but suddenly becomes ridiculous and confounding it becomes too hard to suspend disbelief in.

That's how I felt with the plot here; it started out creepy and bizarre but then became too hard to believe in.
