The main character is a 19-year old girl who finds a helps a mysterious kid who has powers and is being pursued.

It has an interesting premise and the characters are promising. There are a lot of questions about the powers and the people who pursues the kid but they will probably be answered in future volumes

The setting is a cyberpunk one, with a lot of robots doing the work of humans and interesting devices. I am curious on how much the technology is different from the one of our world and what advantages and disadvantages has.

Overall a nice action pack first volume of a new series

A-DO is a story that starts a little slow. Thrown into the world with very few explanations about how it works, that information is slowly spread throughout, but still leaves plenty that could be explained as the series continues.

The characters felt a little light on personality. It was hard to get to know them throughout this volume. Yet, that didn't stop me from getting invested and curious about everything that was going on in this world.

What really kept me invested was the plot. There is a mystery to it for the longest time. It's timed well to have the mysteries slowly solved to bring up more questions that really keep the reader wandering just exactly what is going on in this world.

The art style is pretty gritty which adds to the story. It adds to the darkness of the story and really feels perfect for it.

Fast-paced and action-packed, A-DO is a manga that sets up an interesting world that could interest a number of people. If sci-fi worlds are your thing then I suggest giving this one a chance.

A-DO is an addictive sci-fi manga set in the not too distant future. From nearly the first page we are pulled into the action. The story is fast paced but it isn’t just that which keeps you hooked. Riko and Eito are brilliant, particularly Riko. I loved her fiery personality and how it came across. I also adore how we learn a little bit about Eito and the program he has come from but not everything.
The art work really suits the story and genre as well and it will be perfect for sci-fi fans, dystopian and action manga fans but at the same time I think this would be a perfect gateway manga. To give you some idea I instantly pre-ordered all the volumes currently available in English after reading this and cannot wait to see how the story unfolds.

This was a vibrant, action-packed and tense start to what I think will be a highly praised and exhilarating series. The illustrations were so well done and perfectly represented the pace and chaos in this series. The characters are intriguing and I am excited to learn more about them and especially more about their powers. I am excited to see where the rest of the series goes.

When Riko, a struggling high school dropout, stumbles across a mysterious boy on the run, she decides to take him under her wing. However, she discovers that there’s more to this boy than meets the eye. He can manipulate plants from his body and, even worse, the military is after him! Now must unravel the mystery behind his strange powers while trying to protect him from snipers.

A-Do, Vol. 1 by Amano Jaku introduces a fast-paced sc-fi manga that doesn’t feel too far off in the future. The world itself paints an interesting backdrop where people’s credit scores are attached to their IDs and affect everything they can buy and a wave of anti-immigration sentiment has hit Japan.

While the storyline itself isn’t the most original so far, it’s got mystery, action, heart, and a cool retro manga aesthetic, and, all and all, it’s an intriguing start to the series. I’m curious to see where the story goes from here because this first volume ends on a major cliffhanger!

I don't know what I was expecting when I asked for the Arc, but one thing I know, now I need to know how the manga continues. Eito is a little kid with plant powers that has run out of a facility. The only thing you know about him is that, name and powers, you don't even know that these entail. I want to learn more abut the rest of the kids that were with him, and if Riko is going to be an integral part of the story moving forward. If you want to read something with Akira vibes, this is your story.

A-DO was really interesting and it reminded me of Akira actually. The setting is already something else, Japan has been the target of immigration and now people are displeased and protesting. Riko ends up in the middle of protests and helps a boy not to get hit by a truck. That boy is Eito, who's on the run and has special powers. The army is after him and the two need to run together. The whole special powers thing is interesting, since the powers are plant-based. Such a novelty idea. I also like that Riko is the older one and Eito is still a kid, there's this sibling feeling to the manga. The violence and blood looks awesome when heads are cut and there's action and more Akira vibes. I love the 1990 feeling the manga has, even the art.

The art looks nostalgic, but lively and there's a lot happening all the time without the manga being all over the place. The rhythm is good and the pace altogether too. I've missed serious scifi series such as this and I'd like to know what happens in the future! But even more so I enjoyed the political and societal setting, which was awesome.

I got this book for free via NetGalley for a review.

This story follows a boy called Eito whose arm can transform into plant-like vines and a woman called Riko who, after rescuing him, is trying to look after him, but he is the target of assassins.

The world building was good. It gives me Stranger Things vibes, with the way that everything seems normal, except there are kids with strange powers being hidden away from society.

The characters were reasonably well written, although a little light on personality and motivations. I felt like I didn't really get to know Riko in this volume, but I was still invested in her helping Eito.

The plot was interesting enough to keep me wanting to read more. You are very much just thrown into the story with no explanations, but it is interspersed with flashbacks that help fill in some of the knowledge gaps as you go along, which I found worked well.

The art style is fine. Not one of my favourites, but it works very well for this story, giving it more of a gritty vibe.

Overall this was an enjoyable read and I would happily continue with the series in the future.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.

The cool and intriguing cover got me interested in reading this manga.

It’s a great urban fantasy with lots of action.

Riko is a very brave 19 year old girl, who left her home because of a controlling mother, when she was only 15. She takes our little test subject Eito, under her wings after saving him from almost being run over by a truck and from getting in trouble at a police station, after he used his strange powers. A whole team with guns is after him and keeps trying to kill him. Eventually, they send another test subject after him, a very dangerous one. It was really funny to see that guy going into the real world for the first time and the surprising cliffhanger ending, after he finds Eito, makes me wanna read the sequel right now!!

Want to thank Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to read this book.

The first half of this book was so, so. Then the second half really took my interest. It reminded me of My Hero Academia meets Parasyte in a way. Also, really, a cliffhanger? Now I NEED to read the second volume!

A headstrong young woman and a meek boy with a mysterious arm are on the run from military assassins in a dystopian Japan rife with social tension. This is a great, action-filled first volume with quick pacing that sets up the mysteries of the story incredibly well. Fantastic, artwork with clean linework, neat easy-to-follow panel composition, and detailed backgrounds. Excited to see where the rest of the story goes! Strong recommendation for fans of Akira, Sakamoto Days and The Promised Neverland.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the advanced reader copy.

THIS WAS AWESOME! a story about a young woman, Riko, coming across an escaped subject, Eito, from a military experiment facility who she vows to protect. set in Japan seemingly in the near future due to the kinds of technology featured throughout the story. there were enough chapters in this first volume to give a really thorough introduction to the main characters, the world, and the story itself. it ended on a juicy cliffhanger that left me wanting to immediately pick up vol. 2 so i’ll eagerly be waiting for it!

likes: characters, art, world-building, sound effects, and premise
dislikes: couldn’t find any! this is right up my alley :)

A fast-paced, brutal beginning to what could become a hit manga, in my opinion.

Riko and Eito were not looking for one another. But after a couple of chance encounters and a bowl of ramen, these two seem to be destined to be part of each other’s lives. Danger is following Eito. He’s targeted by a sniper and should logically be dead, if not for the plant-like tendrils that stop the bullet inches from the young boy’s head. Who is targeting Eito and why?! Where did the plant-like tendrils come from?

This manga DELIVERED in my opinion. It gives a quick rundown of the world we are stepping into. The action begins quickly and a mystery is presented. While the plot isn’t a brand new concept, the execution made me keep turning the pages. Action followed by mystery followed by new characters followed by BRUTALITY! It was such a wild ride and I loved it.

The characters have heart and the sci-fi elements hit their mark! The artwork is nicely done and gives me a bit of a 90s manga style vibe that I’m here for.

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the ARC! I’ll happily be continuing this series!

This is such a mature manga but I just really enjoyed it. It reminded me of Pluto in tone. It ends on a huge cliffhanger and I have to read more. This feels more high school appropriate than junior high. I can't wait to buy this for my heavier readers.

I loved this story. Besides being a great dark adventure, there are mysteries about who people really are and what it means to be a hero and care for others. I was invested in the story and worried about what would happen next, when it said "to be continued." I don't even mind because I feel like the entire manga was jam-packed full of action. I can't wait to read the further adventures. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

People aren't always what they seem. Riko is confrontational and headstrong, but she is caring and loyal. She is trying to live her best life and make her way through a world that is very anti-immigration. Eito is a young mute boy who is overwhelmed by his surroundings and can't stay out of trouble. Or is he?

I loved this volume. The story is so interesting. The art is nice. I wouldn't say that it's the best art that I've seen. But the story is so good that I don't even care. I will be reading the next volume.

A-DO is an action title through and through! A barely adult woman finds a young boy who is also on his own and the two form a nice little bond. While we've got the basics of "person with powers escapes and now they are being hunted down," premise, it's not bad for what it is. Both of the leads being basically children in their very controlling adult worlds was a nice bonding point, not to mention some real world themes flesh out the setting. The action is nicely paced, too! If you like X-Men or Akira, give this a look!

If you want a vaguely interesting plot and mostly unlikeable characters, this one's for you!

Okay, first off, the art. It has a retro look to it which, while interesting, sometimes comes off as more outdated than nostalgic. The artist(s) doesn't seem to take the idea anywhere. The designs for characters are pretty basic and uninspired, and there were a couple of background characters that were borderline racist caricatures.

Most of the characters we meet are unlikeable. We meet three fairly likeable, kind of interesting, female characters though. All of which die to serve the far more boring male characters' plotlines.

There's not much else to say, really. A-DO doesn't do anything that hasn't already been done. And what it does do, has already been done better. The writing is fine. The plot is fine. It's all just... Okay.

What could be a quirky, retro, action-packed manga is instead a forgettable, boring, and disappointing read.
