A charming, perfectly paced, and thoughtful novel about two strangers becoming friends (and more) on a cross-country walk. I love to walk and hike, and I enjoyed both the description of their physical journey and relational journey.

Those hoping for the melodrama of ONE DAY may be disappointed here. This very quiet work is about two lonely people, one just under forty, one just over, falling in love as they walk through the gorgeous (and sometimes oppressive) landscape of the English countryside.

You Are Here is a lovely wholesome read, I enjoyed the characters of Marnie and Michael as they walked and talked and got along and bickered.
I liked the wonderful descriptions of the coast to coast walk and felt like I was walking with them at some points.
A great vacation read which I will be generously recommending.

I think I will be in the minority here when I say that I didn’t love it. Again, there were parts that I really enjoyed but overall, I just felt It was a hot mess. The ending made no sense at all. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.

Engaging and immersive. This is a recommended purchase for most collections given One Day's recent Netflix release, but particularly those where second chance romance is popular.

My first five star read of the year! I loved the premise: a walk through the countryside fraught with weather and discomfort but also beauty and connection. It was easy to fall for this unlikely pairing with their awkward charm and witty rapport. I rooted for these two loners looking for a way back into the fullness of life. Such a treat of a read. Now on to reading his backlist!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After embarking on a holiday hiking trip, a copyeditor and a geography teacher meet in the woods, one looking to rewrite the world, one looking to find a new way in the world. Each literally carrying baggage, one overstuffed, and one under packed. The others in the group are in the background, as we get to know the backstories of the two main characters . Once in a while, like the stunning views, everything seems to be on track, only to be derailed by stormy weather and unfinished business. In the end, adults, which is what this book is about, come to a satisfying adult conclusion.

I enjoyed listening to You are Here by David Nicholls. This is a story of Marnie and Michael.
Marnie is stuck in a life of isolation, and doesn't know how to get unstuck. With no close relationships, no children, and a work-from-home job, it's easier for her to turn down invitations rather than "Put herself out there" in socially awkward situations.
Michael is dealing with a recent trauma and ensuing crumbling of his marriage. He finds solace in long walks, but the walks also seem to feed his isolation. He and Marnie have a persistent friend in common, who is able to get them to agree to be part of a group to do a weekend hide through the countryside.
The hike is a great opportunity for the two to talk without pretenses and expectations. We are witness to both of these people who start to heal and finding a way to define themselves as individuals. This is a lovely, kind and hopeful story- glad it was in my path.

Whitty, funny and picturesque! This novel about two divorcees on a walk about in the UK will make you smile, touch your heart and laugh out loud. I really enjoyed this journey of self discovery. Highly recommend!

A lovely novel, especially for an Anglophile like me. Sure, it’s predictable but so lovely and life affirming as the act of walking brings new life to lonely people. I think readers will be charmed by Marni and Michael.

This is a quiet novel which will certainly be a relaxing read. The author writes very well and captures the isolation of modern life. His characters are so likable that the reader wants them to find joy!

More good stuff from Nicholls. Easy reading, yes, but also full of laugh-out-loud chatter, of which he is a master. Did the plot surprise? Not at all. The only question was how and when he’d put his couple together. Meanwhile, the path idea gave it shape.
. It felt like a quick read. Could even have been a novella? But full marks for entertainment value.

I can't wait to talk about this book at book clubs and library events. The characters and setting were so clear in my mind, I feel like I watched the movie that will inevitably be made. I hope those areas of England are ready for more walkers descending on them!
