NOW THAT'S HOW YOU DO A CLIFF HANGER! I. need. more!

This volume perfectly sets the scene for the bigger series. I am fully invested in this series! Excited to see where the story brings us and to see what happens with the characters.

BTW this does say "the first day of Christmas" but don't let it deter you from picking it up! The book is basically just set around Christmas time so I would really classify it as a Christmas book. (at least not this volume)

The art style is very pretty but not my personal taste, but still beautifully done. The design of the clubhouse/treehouse is legit so good!

excited to pick up the next volume and see where we go from here!!

Thank you so much Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this one! (my thoughts are all my own!)

This is different from the usual style I read and I found it a bit hard to get into at first. It picked up about halfway in. I'm a big fan of Riverdale and it was kind of reminiscent of that but that might also be why I didn't love this one. If you liked The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew as a kid then this might be a good fit because it's similar but darker. The artwork is very different from what I usually see in the graphic novels I read but it grew on me and I think it's a good fit for the story. As the first book in a series, it definitely feels more like a setup book so I didn't feel drawn in until the end but now I want to know what happens next. It's definitely a good choice for fans of mystery, horror, and supernatural tales.

Thank you Image Comics for the opportunity to read a digital copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I sadly couldn't finish this comic book before the archive date, but I always love Ed Brubaker's work. I'll look for a physical copy in my local shop. Thank you for the chance to read this book.

I received this book from NetGalley.
Fans of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys will be hooked from the very beginning of "Friday Book One" by Ed Brubaker and Marcos Martin! Set in a 1970s themed small town, readers will an example of a classic mystery solving duo who have just entered adulthood. After coming home on a break from college, Friday is once again swept up in a mystery with her childhood friend and mystery solving partner. Things are different now compared to when they were kids, though. Not only has Friday had an opportunity to explore the world outside of her small hometown, but the two friends have some personal experiences that they must discuss before things can start returning to normal. This is just the start of Friday's adventure.
Some content warnings include: Depictions of sexual encounters with young/new adults, blood and gore, bullying.

This was a cute little mystery/horror graphic novel. It's suitable for readers of any age. It was a little slow at first but it picked up for me about halfway through. It's perfect for young horror readers.

Friday begins the story of Friday Fitzhugh a girl new to town who makes friends with the oddest kid in town, Lancelot Jones.
Together they solve mysteries in the town of Kings Hill. She returns to town after spending some time away at college. She gets sucked right back into her old mystery solving ways.
I am an unabashed Brubaker fan. I can’t remember the last time I read something by him that I didn’t enjoy. This story is no exception.
The town of Kings Hill seemed like a place you could actually visit. Lived in, moody and full of life.
This was just the first book in the set, so a lot of it is just setting the stage for the next act. But there is still some interesting character beats along the way.
I wasn’t sure about the artwork at first, when I just looked through it, but it definitely grew on me and now, it seems like no other art style would work for it.
If you like Brubaker. If you like gothic themed supernatural mystery. This book will be for you.

Friday has been friends with Lance since the sixth grade. They solve mysteries together and developed a bond that grew into something more as they got older. Friday leaves to go to college while Lance stays behind. After coming home for the holidays, Friday and Lance get back into the swing of mystery solving that ends with disaster.

I loved the art of this graphic novel and the story grabbed me. I wish book one would have been a little longer though. I felt it really just set up our characters with little to no forward movement on the story. That being said, it ended on a cliff hanger, so I will be watching out for Book Two to be coming out.

Frida Fitzhugh and Lancelot Jones are the perfect team: a smart, tough, and spunky girl teaming up with the smartest boy on earth to solve crimes in a charming little New England town. But happens when those scrappy little cases grow up alongside those scrappy little detectives?

WOW! I LOVED this comic. Incredibly attractive premise with some gorgeous, old-school art and unsettling details in its storyline make for an absolutely perfect read. Friday was a heroine I absolutely want to follow and know more about. I was so taken with the illustrations that I found myself flipping back and forth between pages just to study some of the images better. I grew up a rabid fan of Harriet the Spy, Encyclopedia Brown and eventually started to read the police procedurals those books eventually grow up to be. This felt like such a natural evolutionary step between the two! I can't wait to continue this series.

I got to read the first in this series through NetGalley and it’s left me wanting so much more!!!

If you like Nancy drew, stranger things, or Spielberg adventures this book is definitely for you.

Our quirky 2 main detective friends come back together on a school break after an evening of are they more than friends goes wrong the night before one leave for college.

Upon arriving in town Friday is tossed into a new case while simultaneously trying to work out where her friendship lies.

Wow, this was fantastic! The pictures of the books of Lancelot’s and Friday’s adventures had me wishing they were real by the time I finished book 1. Definitely had a Scooby gang 70s feel to this short book. Loved the characters and design and story, I’m looking for Book 2 right now!

If you love spooky towns, strong female main characters, and mystery in your graphic novels then do yourself a favor and grab Friday.

Thanks to the authors and publisher for the e-arc I received via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Volume 1 collects issues 1-3 of this retro teen mystery story. Lance and Friday solve fantastical mysteries in their small town of Kings Hill. But as they grow up, relationships change and Friday leaves town for college. This story takes place when she returns for winter break.

It leaves us on a major cliffhanger (why did you do that to me?!) and I’m so glad that book two is already out so I can keep reading immediately.

As always with graphic novels, the artwork can make or break the story. This art is perfect!! I especially loved the scenes that would spread across two pages.

The tale of a team of youthful investigators in a quaint town working to unravel a puzzling and otherworldly case is thrilling and engrossing.
I thought the illustrations were stunningly beautiful!
I am certainly looking forward to delving into the next part of the series.

I would like to express my gratitude to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this advance reader copy in exchange for my unbiased review.

Another great read from Ed Brubaker. This was different from other of his books that I've read, but definitely enjoyable. Has set up for an exciting future with this series. Can't wait for Book Two. #FridayBookOne #NetGalley

What I enjoyed most about this was the artwork and I think the author intended for this comic to be something where the artist could really shine and create some really cool artworks. I loved the authors note at the end saying that he had this idea in his head for a long time, but he really just wanted to see this artist draw it into being. I feel like because of that dynamic my favorite parts of the experience of this comic were the more fantastical free flowing pieces of art that the artist put into it.

There’s this really cool creative section where it shows old adventures Friday and Lance have gone on that look like old mystery book covers with cool titles and I thought that was a really whimsical way of showing how many adventures these two have been on together.

This new adult ya captures a relationship between two people that normally is very easy as friends, but gets complicated when they explore further feelings and it ends up feeling not as easy. They both acknowledge as easily as the reader can that they are better off as friends.

The ending left me feeling a bit cold and wondering how the next issue will resolve and continue on this story. I have hope but things don’t look great for Friday and Lance. I look forward to finding out what’s next!

I’m looking forward to continuing the series. Friday is original in plot and had me hooked right away. The illustrations lighten the heavy themes but also bring the story together nicely.

I really enjoyed the grittier spin on young investigators and the introduction the comic gave us to the world and characters. While I thought book one was short, I understand why that was case in the end. I'm excited to continue the story!

Remember being into all those child detectives? I sure do, so it was immediately obvious to me that Friday Fitzhugh was inspired by, among others, Harriet the Spy. It was fun to pick up all the other references in the book, from Encyclopedia Brown to Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys. But now Friday is college-age, and coming home to her small town and the awkwardness she left in her wake with her best friend and partner in (solving) crime, Lancelot Jones.

I really loved this and can't wait to see where it goes.

Friday was a great YA horror comic that immediately pulls the reader into another time. The mysterious occurrences of the small town are teased so well and the art is fantastic. It felt like a mix of shadowy Lovecraftian lore meets Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys, and it left me wanting to have more adventures in this dark setting. The main character was refreshing, being at once tough and fragile, smart, yet incapable of escaping the typical emotional dramas of youth. Looking forward to reading more!
