A book full of great communication ideas for marriage relationships. This is a great addition to your home library or to gift to your favorite newlywed couple.

As I am preparing to get married I took a swing at this book to see how I can be the best person in my relationship. The book follows different safe communication skills. One chapter that stuck out to me is the one on conversations without interruptions. This is vital within a marriage and the author highlighting how listening can help your partner and relationship. If you are interested in finding ways to strengthen your relationship/marriage then I recommend checking this book out

While I don’t think this for everyone and might not work for all marriages, my husband and I thought there were some pretty decent information in here.

In writing this review, I am attempting to maintain objectivity despite my personal encounters with traumatic narratives surrounding marriage. My negative experiences do not directly involve my own marital relationship but rather encompass broader societal perceptions of marriage. Unfortunately, this book fails to meet basic standards of quality writing and could greatly benefit from the intervention of a proficient editor. Additionally, its depiction of communication and marital dynamics is drowning in antiquated ideologies, which perpetuate harm rather than foster healthy relationships. As a graduate student specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy, I found this book particularly challenging to engage with, given its focus on inaccurate and detrimental advice. For example, this quote - “

In most Great Marriages, most husbands will learn and accept thru the years, that what is most important to most wives, what most women need is security, feeling genuinely loved, feeling safe, and having a safe well-maintained home (the nest for the children). In most Great Marriages, most wives will learn and accept thru the years, that what is most important to most husbands, what most husbands need is respect, physical affection, frequent intimacy, and a sense that he is a good provider for the needs of the home.”

Do I need to elaborate further? This book not only contains damaging content but also lacks basic quality in its writing. Would not recommend.

This is a lovely book with some great conversation starters to have with your partner to start some open and honest conversations. I also loved the quotes spotted throughout this book about marriage, never a truer word said. A great book to start the two of you talking when life and marriage gets harder.
