Storm Child by Michael Robotham is a dark, emotional read, and a fantastic continuation of the series—definitely one to read in order to fully appreciate the characters, their backstories, and their journey. Definitely a standout installment in an unforgettable series.
I would like to thank Scribner & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review

Storm Child is a powerful and emotional addition to the Cyrus and Evie series. What starts as a peaceful beach holiday quickly takes a dark turn when a migrant boat crashes offshore. Cyrus jumps into action, while Evie is frozen by the traumatic memories the scene brings to the surface.
Told in dual timelines, this installment finally gives us more insight into Evie’s past—her family, her childhood, and the experiences that shaped her. It’s dark, moving, and deeply character-driven. Cyrus and Evie’s bond continues to grow in meaningful ways, and I loved seeing how far they’ve come.
This book had me completely hooked. Robotham’s writing is sharp, emotional, and filled with tension. An excellent continuation of an already fantastic series. I highly recommend reading these books in order to fully understand and appreciate the depth of these characters and their journey.

This is the fourth book in this series. I may have been better off having read the others first. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, and reading the others may have helped. I thought the book was decent, though.

This is an honest review in exchange for an advanced reader copy.
This is the fourth book in the Cyrus Haven series, and again is one that will not disappoint.
A gripping plot which intertwines a current investigation, whilst adding the unraveling of a characters past. We have met and become familiar with Evie in the prior 3 books but there are certain aspects about her past that have remained a mystery, some of that mystery is about to come unraveled.
Cyrus and Evie have complex personalities. They have an evolving relationship , with each one facing individual struggles add a level of depth that adds to the already intriguing narrative.
Edie’s trauma, and her journey towards healing is a major part of this story.
This book can be read as a stand alone but I think it would be better read as the culmination of a four book journey that finally reaches a satisfying conclusion. I loved this book and am sad that the series is done,

Heart pounding suspense with deep emotions. The plot is cleverly crafted with twists and turns. The emotional depth adds a raw and human element that will captivate the reader. Many thanks to Scribner and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love the Cyrus Haven series but this was my least favorite of the bunch thus far. The story felt overly complicated and it never quite drew me in like the others. Super bummed I didn't love this one more!

I did not read the first 3 books in this series but I’m not sure that it really mattered?!? This was well written although very dark topics. The sexual abuse & human trafficking were rough for me. But Michael’s writing is so crisp. It’s like no matter how messed up the actual book is-the writing is so good, you just keep writing. The cliffhanger has me guessing we’re getting another one in this series. I’ll be looking for that.

Cyrus Haven is called to investigate a case where a boat carrying migrants was deliberately rammed and sunk. Cyrus soon realizes there is a connection between this case and Evie’s past.
Storm Child is the fourth book in Cyrus Haven series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the early books to better understand Cyrus and Evie.
Told with the alternating points of view of Cyrus and Evie. Cyrus is a psychologist. Evie is young woman with a dark past. She and Cyrus are friends, and she is living in his family home.
Storm Child is a dark suspense novel. Flawed characters and an intricate plot.
I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I accidentally requested and read this book without knowing it was part of a larger series - thankfully, I feel it mostly read as a standalone novel.
This is a very dark thriller focusing on refugees and their treatment as they try to seek asylum in the UK. Our two main characters are quite compelling - a criminal psychologist and a refugee who is the lone survivor of their ship to freedom sinking, who doesn't really remember what happened to her. When more refugees are found dead, together, they try to figure out her background, help her heal, and try to figure out who is behind all these "accidents."
This is twisted, fast-paced, and heartbreaking - but starts an excellent conversation on immigration, asylum, and the atrocities people often face when simply trying to find a better life for themselves and their families.
CW // human trafficking, sexual abuse, physical abuse

Storm Child is a powerful and disturbing exploration of the dark side of humanity. Robotham's masterful storytelling and vivid characterization bring to life a world of suffering and redemption. This book is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers who appreciate a well-crafted and emotionally resonant narrative.

This is the second Cyrus Haven novel I've read and the third by Michael Robotham. I really enjoy this author's work and find his thrillers really entertaining and fun. With that being said, I didn't love the political undertones in this one and found it to be more of an agenda than something that fit into the plot like the previous Cyrus Haven novel I'd read. Nonetheless I love these characters and loved seeing their relationship grow and mature along with their respective characters. This one was not as fast paced as the previous two I'd read but was still entertaining and fun. I enjoyed getting glimpses into Evie's past and seeing her move forward and heal from her traumas.
3.5 stars and I will still read everything else in this series!

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of Storm Child by Michael Robotham.
I just love the relationship between Cyrus and Evie, these books never disappoint.
In the fourth installment of this series, through a gruesome immigration case, we get to find out more about Evie's mysterious life and origins. But every time you set truth free, there are consequences, and they could be deadly.
This is a really intense thriller with incredibly compelling characters, and tons of great twists. I already look forward to the next Cyrus Haven novel.

♡ Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

Storm Child is the fourth book in Michael Robotham’s Cyrus Haven series. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC through NetGalley and Scribner, and it was officially published on July 2, 2024.
This book is an easy five-star read for me. From the very first page, I was hooked, which, honestly, I expected. Robotham has become one of my favorite authors, and his Cyrus and Evie stories hold a special place in my heart. If this series were to end with Storm Child, I’d be content. While I’d love more of Evie’s unpredictable antics and Cyrus’ endearing quirks, this installment felt like the perfect culmination. The mystery and suspense kept me on edge, while long-standing questions from earlier in the series were finally answered, giving a satisfying sense of closure.
Robotham’s writing is as sharp and fast-paced as ever, with his signature attention to detail. The alternating points of view create an emotional depth that draws you into the story, making it hard to put down. I highly recommend starting with Good Girl, Bad Girl, the first in the series, if you haven’t already. But be warned—you might find yourself tearing through all the books in no time!
Fav quotes:
“Some memories are like old photographs in dusty frames, that are fading but forever preserved, while others are like shards of broken glass. If you hold them too tightly they can cut you over and over again. This one is sudden and savage and steals my breath. I know this man. I’ve seen him before.”
“I’m not sure how I feel. I’m exhausted and disappointed and angry and sad and excited and scared. My sister has come back to me. She has added a drop of condensed color into my black-and-white world, giving definition and shade to things that have been lost in grey.”
“She has been like a little sister to me- filling a hole in my life that once belonged to the twins. Life is not colorful without her. Life is not interesting without her. Life is not life without her. I will never stop caring. I will never stop worrying. I will never stop loving her.”
Short:
Storm Child by Michael Robotham is a five-star read and the fourth in the Cyrus Haven series. I was hooked from the start, with its fast pace, gripping mystery, and emotional depth. It wraps up lingering questions from the series, and while I’d love more of Evie and Cyrus, this felt like a perfect conclusion. Highly recommend!

While Cyrus and Evie are visiting Lincolnshire beach, the bodies of seventeen migrants wash ashore. There is only one survivor, a teenage Albanian boy, who tells the police that their small boat was intentionally rammed and sunk. The sight of the bodies washing ashore stirs something deep within Evie, unlocking memories of her traumatic past that she has been unable to recall.
Storm Child is the fourth book in the Cyrus Haven series, and it continues to explore the compelling relationship between Cyrus and Evie. Their bond is particularly fascinating given their traumatic pasts, which makes them intriguing characters. Their interactions feel effortless, with authentic dialogue that deepens their connection in this installment. I also enjoyed the introduction of Florence and the dynamic her presence added to the story. This book delivers excellent crime fiction, delving into issues like human trafficking and illegal immigration. Although I typically don’t enjoy hot political topics in my reading, I appreciate how Michael Robotham approached these subjects without being heavy-handed or preachy, offering a balanced discussion of both sides of the migrant crisis.
I was so excited to get approved for this ARC. Michael Robotham never disappoints and this series continues to be a favorite of mine. I LOVE Cyrus and Evie and hope there are still many more books to come in this series. Not quite 5 stars since there were a few times I had to suspend disbelief when it came to Cyrus’s actions. 4.5 stars rounded up.
I recommend reading the books of this series in order to have a better understanding of the characters.

I'm a huge Michael Robotham fan. HUGE. So I was especially excited to get my hands on this one. In the words of Stephen King, "I always have a huge stack of books to read, but a Michael Robotham novel automatically goes to the top of the pile." And it's true. I currently have approximately 15 books checked out from the library, easily 50 unread on my shelf at home, yet this one easily jumps the line.
Cyrus and Evie are back, and this time we learn a lot more about Evie's past (which I know we've all been patiently waiting for).
I really enjoyed this book, and also really loved watching Cyrus and Evie's relationship grow and evolve. They are on of my favorite pairings right now. I fell in love with these characters and rooted for them until the last page. Absolutely a 5 star read and I hope Cyrus and Evie's story isn't over yet.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I had a hard time with this one and now know why. It's part of a series that I'm told you have to read in order to understand and not be lost. I can't give it a bad rating as it may be excellent if I had read the previous books. Under the circumstances I have to say this one is a DNF for me.

Was so glad to see a fourth installment in the Cyrus Haven series. This one is a tough read because it involves Evie's past of being trafficked, and then a boat containing immigrants being capsized with only one young surviver. It was very traumatic to read all the details/drama of what Evie went through.,and how it was connected to the boating accident. This is a series that really needs to be read in order so you understand the characters and their life stories. It's a good series and I enjoyed it but was a bit political for my liking and that's why I did not give it more stars. I liked the other first three books much better.
A very special thank you to Scribner Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is the fourth book of the series and reads best as such. The narrative delves into the themes of trauma, resilience, and the pursuit of justice, focusing on the dark realities of human trafficking and the lasting effects of childhood abuse. Michael Robotham handles these challenging topics with sensitivity, delivering a compelling and emotionally charged narrative. The story, told through alternating perspectives, captivates readers with its sharp dialogue, vivid descriptions, and relentless tension. A must-read for fans of the genre.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a huge Michael Robotham fan so I am always excited when his latest book comes out!
"Storm Child" is the 4th installment in the Cyrus/Evie Series. The relationship between Evie and Cyrus is complex and to better understand the back story, I would start at the beginning with Good Girl Bad Girl!
This book starts with 17 migrants that wash ashore on a beach with one survivor, a teenage boy. Cryus is called in to investigate and quickly learns that Evie is somehow connected to this tragedy. Cyrus will finally have a chance to possibly unlock secrets of Evie's past and all the trauma she endured. There were a lot of characters in this one, and it got a bit bogged down for me. This was a heavier book and Evie wasn't her funny, sarcastic self. Rape, abuse and sex trafficking play a big role. This is not my favorite of the series, however, I'm still a huge fan and cannot wait until the next book. 4 stars - 3.5 rounded up -
Thank you to Scribner Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book! .
