Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review!! I love bad-ass Evie Cormac’s character and all the books in this series. All 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is the 4th book in the Cyrus Haven series and it doesn’t disappoint. A page turner for sure that you won’t want to put down.
Cyrus and Evie are still roommates and cohorts in adventure. This time around, they get involved with a case where a refugee boat goes down in the waters after getting hit by a fishing trawler, killing all but one young man. Was it an accident? An intentional act? As Cyrus does his psychology thing, trying to help solve the possible crime, the two of them are involved in danger and lies, and it opens up many memories for Evie. We eventually learn a more complete version of her history which really helps to understand her story fully. I hate to say it but it almost felt like a final ending (for her character at least), though I hope not.
Despite the alternating POV chapters, Cyrus’s role seemed to take a back seat to Evie’s story. There wasn’t much new we learned from him and I sort of missed the essence of him. My hope is that since Evie’s story is now more complete, the next one (because surely there will be a next one) will go heavy on Cyrus again.
There is a heavy political vibe with the debatable issues of refugees, asylum, the people in power for it and against it. This isn’t just some suspense read, it definitely digs deeper than that. Very little violence, but the idea of human trafficking could be a trigger for some. I think you really should read this series in order so don’t pick this up until you’ve read the first three.
Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for my ARC.

Cyrus Haven and Evie Cormac are back for the 4th installment of the Cyrus Haven series!
Cyrus and Evie are enjoying a wholesome summer day on a Lincolnshire beach when the bodies of seventeen migrants wash up onto the shore. The migrants were trying to seek asylum but during the journey their boat was intentionally rammed and sunk with only one survivor. In the midst of the screams and chaos, Evie feels a sense of familiarity that she does not understand, and her mind goes blank as a coping mechanism. When Cyrus realizes that this event has triggered a buried memory in Evie, he makes it his mission to solve this mystery for her. As Cyrus begins to dig into Evie’s past, he realizes that there is danger lurking around each corner. He is determined to find answers for Evie’s sake, but at what cost?
The story is told alternately from the point of view of Cyrus and Evie. I enjoyed both points of view! Evie’s story was very compelling in this book because we finally got to learn about her early life. Poor thing has been through so much! The dynamic of Cyrus and Evie’s relationship is very complex but charming and I’m glad that they found each other and were able to build a life together. The narrative is fast-paced and will keep you reading to see what happens next! I was so excited to see several mentions of Joe O’Loughlin. I miss him and would love to have him included in future books even if it is just a glimpse! I have read every book that Michael Robotham has written and I can’t wait to see what he comes out with next :)

Michael Robotham knocks it out of the park again with his new book, Storm Child. The 4th installment in the Cyrus Haven series, the book brings us back to Cyrus and Evie Cormac. As a child, Evie was found hiding in a home where a man had been tortured to death. Her story didn’t start there though and we learn in prior books that Evie was neglected and abused. Due to this she is missing memories of her life before. Cyrus Haven is tasked with helping unlock these memories and he is the only person Evie allows to see her for who she really is, or who she thinks she may be. The book begins when a migrant boat washes ashore with 17 dead boys, 2 missing women and 1 teenage boy survivor. The more Cyrus and Evie learn, the more memories are unlocked for Evie. Will what Evie finds help set her free or put her in mortal danger?
This book was phenomenally written. I love Michael Robotham’s books because I am able to place myself in the center of the action without actually ever having been there. I also learn something new every time I read, whether that be a trade, politics, etc. He has the unique ability to write an unputdownable thriller that can also bring a tear to your eye. I really hope this isn’t the end for Cyrus Haven and Evie Cormac because I could read their stories forever!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Michael Robotham is one of those writers that consistently writes great books. This series features Evie and Cyrus, two interesting characters with a lot of treacherous backstory between them. Written in alternating chapters, this story touches on current events, while wrapping up what happened to Evie years before. I enjoyed this book and recommend.

Oh man, I finished this book too quick! I had to know what happened to Evie's family. This series has become one of my all time favorites and I loved this book as much as the others. Once I started, I could not put it down.

After catching up with book 3, it was time for Storm Child.
A much better cover and title. Cyrus has been trying to get Evie to remember elements of her childhood, to discover how she came to be locked in the secret room.
When Cyrus and Evie take a trip to the beach, bodies of migrants begin washing to the shore, and Evie begins having debilitating flashbacks.
The only survivor, a teenage boy insists they were intentionally rammed and that no efforts were made to rescue those who were drowning. However, two young women are missing from the bodies and suspicions of human trafficking are on the table.
Two men are arrested, and Cyrus hopes to help Evie regain her awareness of what happened to her by joining the investigation.
While the plot is sometimes less than realistic, the characters carry it well. The themes of human trafficking and human evil are real...and sometimes fiction does a better job of making us aware than do newspaper articles.
I particularly enjoyed the references to Joe O'Loughlin, who was Cyrus's mentor. Michael Robotham's Joe O'Loughlin books are worth checking out if you haven't read them.
Thanks to Scribner's and NetGalley.
Publication date: July 2, 2024
I'll post a reminder closer to publication.

Wow! I just finished reading this novel in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. The Cyrus/Evie series is a favorite, and while this makes an excellent stand alone, it also reveals Evie’s past.

Cyrus Haven and Evie Cormac face another harrowing adventure when they encounter drowned immigrants who wash up on the beach. Evie has flashbacks from the ordeal, which lead to profound revelations. The two become involved in the investigation of who killed these immigrants and it takes them up north to Scotland. This is another excellent addition to a stellar series. There are some heartbreaking and pulse pounding scenes. Cyrus and Evie’s characters grow with each book and it’s exciting to witness.

A well-written, fast-paced read full of twists and suspense. Love this series and can’t wait for #5 and more Cyrus & Evie!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a great book and a great series. Cyrus and Evie are intriguing characters and the plot is a well-written. Read in several hours and enjoyed every twist and turn! Looking forward to the next book. This can be read as a standalone book for those who haven’t read the series.

I think this is my favorite Cyrus Haven/Evie Cormac book to date and that is saying a lot because I’ve loved all of them so much. It’s well written and once you start reading, it’s hard to put down. The mystery of Evie’s past is slowly unraveling as her and Cyrus head to Scotland after bodies of immigrants washed ashore.
Without giving too much away, I will say Evie’s character has grown so much from the first book. From her funny interactions with Cyrus to sharing parts of her past with him I feel like she has grown so much. The way this author writes his books makes you really care about the characters and the ending of this book had me tearing up.
I would love to see this book and this duo adapted as a television series!

I love Michael Robotham's Joe O'Loughlin books, but Cyrus and Evie have become my favorites among his characters. This fourth installment in their series is wonderful and reveals the last remaining details of Evie's unknown past.
Warning: if you haven't read the other three books, you need to start there -- there's way too much back story that you need in order to enjoy this book. Some series are set up to be enjoyed in order or as stand-alones -- this isn't one of them. I highly recommend reading them in order.
The story is convoluted and a bit hard to follow -- lots of characters related to each other in lots of ways -- but it's worth it to unravel the details and find out more of Evie's early life and the loss of her parents and sister. Her story is heart-wrenching (and probably needs some trigger warnings), but in the end is perhaps enough to allow Evie to finally heal and create a life for herself. Cyrus, too, got some closure on his story in the last book, so I'm not sure what happens now -- does the series continue with more mentally balanced main characters and fewer allusions to their past, or is this the end of it?
Cyrus's relationships with the police and with Evie are a little murky, and definitely leave some questions about where things stand between him and Evie, and whether the police can continue to use him as a consultant when he insists on coloring outside the lines. I hope there are future books coming to answer these questions.
Thanks so much to Simon and Schuster | Scribner and Netgalley for the chance to read an eARC of this book!

5 stars
I love Evie and Cyrus and was thrilled when I saw that a new installment was out.
Evie and Cyrus are enjoying a day at the seaside when the bodies of 17 migrants wash up on the beach. This sets off a long chain of events with a link to Evie and her past.
Highly recommend the entire series to all. I hope there is more to come.

Cyrus and Evie return in this fast paced thriller. When the bodies of several migrants wash up on the beach, Cyrus and Evie investigate and discover a link to Evie’s mysterious past. Evie knows the tragedy is linked to her past trauma, because as she sees Cyrus try to rescue the victims, she goes into a near catatonic state. This latest book in the series sheds light on more of Evie’s past and in my opinion is the best one yet. Excellent 4th installment in the series, deserves more than 5 stars, not to be missed.

The latest Cyrus Haven novel reveals onion layers of secrets surrounding Evie Cormac's origins and her life before, and it's so good you'll want to read it again!
On vacation near a beach, Evie goes into shock after witnessing Cyrus trying to save a drowning victim. Amidst the victims, one survivor - a 14-year-old Albanian boy - tells an astonishing tale. The boat that was to whisk his family and others to safety in the U.K. was deliberately rammed by a fishing trawler.
Memories begin to resurface for Evie, and it takes a trip to Scotland for the unraveling to begin in earnest. Evie's parents and sister Agnessa come alive in these chapters and it's heartbreaking how the family has to suffer. First, the loss of a parent. And, second, as refugees seeking asylum in a country that doesn't want them. More death and loss, plus Evie's own horrific journey.
At times I felt sorry for Evie, and at times for Cyrus. His profession as a forensic psychologist and his own painful past makes him a good friend and housemate to Evie, though she wants more. At the same time, she's happy when Cyrus "bumps uglies" with someone else. She's a contradiction, but so is Cyrus at his own admission.
I want another book, to see where it goes next! But for now, I'll be happy to re-read Storm Child again and again. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

“Storm Child” by Michael Robotham is the 4th Cyrus Haven and Evie Cormac book and I simply adore these characters and their dynamic. Cyrus is called to investigate the murders of 17 migrants washed up on the beach and the mystery is related to Evie’s past. It’s an extremely thrilling and quick read.

In Storm Child, 4th in the Cyrus Haven series, Michael Robotham demonstrates once again that he is capable of creating a masterfully-written mystery/thriller and simultaneously delving deeply into the psyches and lives of his major characters.
As a child, Evie was rescued from a horrible situation involving murder and torture, leaving her damaged, fragile, and erratic. Her life in the foster system was fraught with disappointment and conflict until she came to live with psychologist and law enforcement consultant Cyrus--first as a foster child and now (at age 22 perhaps--no one is sure) as his roommate. Evie has a unique flair for detecting lies, which would make her a valuable resource for crime investigators, but only Cyrus is able to navigate her moods and eccentricities. Cyrus himself has a background that haunts him--his older, schizophrenic brother killed their twin sisters and parents years ago--and Cyrus found the bodies.
The plot of this book involves a boatload of migrants who lose their lives when their boat is rammed by another boat. Only one 13-year-old boy has survived, and two women are missing. It's a twisted story of great wealth, grinding poverty, human trafficking, politics, and murder which elicits deeply ingrained emotions from Cyrus and, especially, from Evie, whose buried past may have similarities to the current situation. We learn much more about Evie's early years than ever before, and it's quite a revelation.
Robotham's talent is in combining evocative prose with a rip-roaring plot that leaves the reader exhausted but satisfied.
My sincere thanks to Scribner and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of this book.

Cyrus Haven and Evie Cormac are back in another must read! I could not put this book down.! I have loved all of Michael Robotham’s books, (and especially loved the Joe O’Loughlin series), and Storm Child is another great one! The story is gritty, the plot is complicated and the character development is strong. The relationship between Cyrus and Evie is unique and inspiring. This is a must read book! Thank toy very much to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in advance. It was so good! To Michael Robotham: thank you and please keep writing. I look forward to your next book and will recommend it to friends, family and book club members.

This is the second in the series with the characters of Cyrus, a psychologist that works with the police and Evie, the now grown, child that he was part of rescuing many years before. It is fine to read it as a stand alone. There is a lot in it, that would make good class discussion and I think my students will like the characters
