I'd been thinking about reading Consort of Fire and finally gave in a little while ago. Those who have already read it know it ends on a rather large cliffhanger. I knew I needed book two ASAP. Luckily for me, shortly after finishing, I was browsing NetGalley and saw Queen of Dreams available for request. The way I smashed that button! I dove right in and really enjoyed it! While book one has a focus of Sachi and Zanya together and Sachi and Ash together separately, Queen of Dreams puts in the work to make Zanya and Ash comfortable together too. I really liked all three of these characters, as individuals and together, though Zanya is probably my favorite. It did a good job of wrapping up the story of Sachi, Zanya, and Ash while leaving the door open for more. I would definitely read more books in the world! The heat is high, so romantasy fans looking for some spice will be in for a treat!

With Sachi imprisoned in the Betrayer's Court for most of the book, I expected Ash and Zanya relationship to develop so that they had a relationship outside of Sachi so that it didn't seem that Zanya was merely tolerating Ash for Sachi's sake.

Unfortunately, while they became somewhat closer, that didn't happen and while everything revolved around Sachi, it became evident that despite the revelations at the end of the first novel, Ash still thought of her as some sweet little girl that needs his protection and who can't handle herself and make her own decisions. Zanya while overprotective knows that Sachi can take care of herself and make her own decisions.

What really stuck out to me was the portrayal of Sachi, blonde haired, sweet tempered, a princess, adored by all in contrast to Zanya, the Endless Void, dark haired, dangerous, out of control, feared, a handmaid, makes staff nervous.

It made me uncomfortable that Zanya has no one and nothing outside of Sachi and even her relationship with Ash revolves mainly around Sachi. Sure, I get that Creation and Destruction are two halves of the same whole, bound together etc but everything Zanya has is through Sachi which is in no way healthy and not really addressed.

The plot was slightly disappointing with the Betrayer being an underwhelming villain and Gywnivra. the Stalker and the rest of the Betrayer's court being underutilised.

Loved this even more than the first book in the series! Somehow, this book corrected the missteps and little things I found frustrating about the first installment, and allowed me more time with my favorite character, Sachielle - I feel so spoiled! By the end I was quite sorry to be saying goodbye to these characters. I'll truly miss them!

Three lovers with unbridled hope, uncanny dreams, and ancient powers join forces against the greatest evil in the world in a scorching fantasy by the authors of Consort of Fire.

Ash waited three thousand years for a consort who could break the Betrayer’s chains. Instead of one lover, he found two: Sachi and Zanya—the primordial powers that embody creation and destruction, reborn as humans. Now, his ancient enemy has returned to threaten everything he loves.

I love Kit Rocha's writing, world building, and characters. This is a great continuation of the first sexy dragon book. 🙂 It's fast paced, fun, and steamy. Let the sexy times roll! 🌶️❤️

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced digital reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review!

Queen of dreams, the 2nd book in the Bound to Fire and Steel series was action packed and very well written. I was pleasantly pleased that the second book seemed to have a faster pace then the first. I absolutely love the character development between the two book and the plot are all written beautifully and I enjoyed the multi-veiw points that carried over from book 1.

I received an ARC from NetGalley; my opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this duology from Kit Rocha, a steamy romantasy with a decent amount of (ecology-focused) worldbuilding, and a delightful romp going straight for the id (Zanya getting her new outfit gave 'Sailor Moon new transformation' vibe, and I mean that in a good way). I just have to admit the first book felt a little more daring, and I somehow thought the world was going to have more significance here, the way the magic and religion and visions worked in the first volume. It all fits together, but I would have liked a little bit more depth. But still: fun, from the beginning to the end, and a whole lot of well written sex, and I'll keep Rocha in mind for the next time I'm looking for this exact thing.

Queen of Dreams, the second book in K. Rocha's Bound to Fire and Steel Series, published by Montlake, seamlessly continues the enchanting narrative introduced in Consort of Fire. It's highly recommended to follow the series in order, starting with the first installment.

Consort of Fire introduces Princess Sachielle, destined by history and pact to become the consort of a dragon god. Accompanied by her devoted handmaid and lover, Zanya, they confront numerous challenges on their journey. The unexpected twist comes in the form of Ash, the dragon, who steals the spotlight in this fantasy world brimming with magic, secrets, and villains. The unique mm-dragon theme adds an extra layer of allure to the paranormal romance.

Moving on to Queen of Dreams, the sequel elevates the story with three lovers and an enthralling narrative set in a fantastical realm that surpasses all expectations. The characters undergo captivating developments, making the second book even more engaging than its predecessor. Having had the privilege of reading a digital ARC from Netgalley, I can attest to the continued excellence of the series.

Kit Rocha's venture into fantasy romance is a welcomed progression, and Queen of Dreams demonstrates their growing expertise in the genre. The characters remain compelling, and the storyline evolves seamlessly, keeping readers hooked and eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this captivating series. In summary, I'm thoroughly enamored with this series, appreciating the perfect blend of fantasy and romance that adds a unique and enjoyable flavor to the overall narrative.

I read everything by Kit Rocha...this series is more high fantasy than I usually care for. However, as usual, I loved the characters. Rocha always has a lovely group of compelling characters. Ash, Sachi, and Vanya were all very well developed and loved how they complimented each other. I also love the rest of the cadre of Gods. I am wondering if this is the end or if maybe, like with other series, some of the other Gods may get a chance at happily ever after? Also the ending was open ended enough we could see more with Ash, Sachi, and Vanya. Not the biggest fan of MFF, but it served this story well enough.

Queen of Dreams by K. Rocha, published by Montlake, is the second book in the Bound to Fire and Steel Series. This is not a stand alone, I recommend to read the books in order. The previous book is Consort of Fire and this is my review .
Consort of Fire by K. Rocha is the first book in the new Bound to Fire and Steel Series, published by Montlake.
As history and pact requires, princess Sachielle is on her way to a dragon god as his consort. Accompanied by her handmaid and lover Zanya they brave many challenges.
And Ash, the dragon, isn't what someone would expected. He's the highlight of the book.
The author duo created a fantasy world full of magic, secrets, villains. A fantastic pnr read. mm-dragon.

But back to book two. 3 lovers, an incredible story with beings beyond all fantasy with a story you can only fall in love with, the next ijjnnstallment is even better than the previous book.

I love this series and this book was even better than the first one. I love the main characters so much and I love reading about the development of their relationship. A lot of questions from the previous book were answered and the plot and story got even more interesting and intriguing. Thank you for the arc, I'm looking forward to the next book.

Oh my goodness! I was highly anticipating this sequel and it certainly did not disappoint. There were so many clever elements to this which just builds on the first book: the world building, the poly romance, the twists regarding the magic and bonds! Readers are definitely going to sink their teeth into this one. I could not put it down.

Why I read it: HORNY DRAGON BOOK SEQUEL. Need I say more? I’ll say more. The first book in the Bound to Fire & Steel duology made my 2023 favorites list, and when the follow-up became available on NetGalley, I had to get it. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an advance copy; this is my honest review.

Review #insixwords: A must-read sequel from Kit Rocha.

More:

I reread Consort of Fire before diving into Queen of Dreams and I’m glad I did. When you read, uh, a lot of books like I do, it’s easy to forget what happened. Reading Consort of Fire help reorient me in the world, and made the Queen of Dreams reading experience that much better.

This book is just as good as (or better than???) Consort of Fire. Writing sequels can be hard both from a writing perspective and from a fan expectation perspective, and Bree and Donna (Kit Rocha) nailed it. (I am not surprised. Their books are 🔥)

This book features the same three main characters as book 1: Ash (the Dragon), Sachi, and Zanya. We ended book 1 with a HFN (happy for now), this book focuses on the deepening of their relationship as Sachi and Zanya come to understand and learn all they’re capable of.

Queen of Dreams expands the world-as-we-know-it from the first book, and how twisted it gets! The Betrayer makes such a fascinating (and terrifying) villain.

I am going to blatantly steal this line from my Consort of Fire review because it’s true: Bree and Donna put so much thought, care, and skill into crafting this fantasy world and its cast of characters. Seriously, it’s not to be missed.

Recommendation: This duology is one that you have to read in order. Read Queen of Dreams if you’ve read and enjoyed Consort of Fire. If you haven’t and you like fantasy romance or are looking for polyamory and bisexual rep, start with Consort of Fire.
