Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for a honest review.

This is a good addition to Tim Burton fans. It will be a great coffee table book.

Dislike having to read in the netgalley app as formatting isn’t easily read.

My thoughts: Thank you to @iannathanwriter and @netgalley for the advanced reader copy of this wonderful biography.

I absolutely adored reading about Tim Burtons life and work and the influences behind some of the greatest movies of all time.

I am huge fan of Edward Scissorhands, The Corpse’s Bride and the real-life recreation of Alice in Wonderland - so these were some of the highlights for me. However it was also so fascinating to read about movies I may not have watched or come across before

The images in the book were absolutely beautiful and a real snapshot into Tim Burton’s life through photographs.

An all round excellent non-fiction read and I would highly recommend to all fans of media and film especially.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 18%.
I didn’t like the format. The ARC I received was only available to read on the NetGalley app and because it’s more of a coffee table book it was very difficult to read on my phone. I found it too frustrating to really enjoy.

Honestly, the book was really interesting, but I couldn’t enjoy it because of the format.

As a big fan of Tim Burton and his work, I was very excited to read this.

By far the best part of the book was the pictures. There were pictures of all his different projects including ones behind the scenes. It was so interesting learning a bit about his childhood. I also really liked how the book was broken into sections to examine his different projects. Tim Burton is one of a kind and his creativity is just beyond. I loved learning more about him and all his various movies.

Thank you to NetGalley for Tim Burton by Ian Nathan.

As a long-term Tim Burton fan, I really enjoyed this book. It had some wonderful artwork (Tim is superb), and would make a really great conversation starter book- the kind that belongs on a coffee table or a side table.

As a big fan of both Tim Burton's classics and newer work, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this gorgeous volume.

You start at Tim's suburban childhood and early career as a misunderstood animator with Disney, where his concept art and ideas ended up being vaulted rather than used (fun fact - this included the idea for The Nightmare Before Christmas!). The book then takes you on the sets of his first hits and acclaimed classics where the term "burtonesque" was established, and more recent ventures with mixed reactions such as Dumbo and Wednesday.

A relatively short and easy to read volume, Tim Burton - The Iconic Filmmaker and His Work makes for an excellent gift for a fan, and a beautiful coffee table book to have in any film enjoyer's collection.

✨ Disclaimer ✨ I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Exceptional! The print was a little small for me to read extensively, but the photographs!!!
Multiple photographs representative of each of his films as well as of those films (old and original) and particular actors (Vincent Price leads the pack) that are his inspirations. Extravagant and extraordinarily imaginative!
I requested and received a free temporary EARC on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion | White Lion Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you!

Tim Burton has an unique film making style that is loved by many. The first Tim Burton movie that I saw, in which I was aware that it was a Tim Burton film, was The Nightmare Before Christmas. I saw it in the theater and absolutely loved it! It was a unique film that brought together "cute" and "dark" - not two things that one would think could mesh well. Not only did they go together beautifully, but it gave me a new appreciation for film styles. When I saw that there was a book that explored Tim Burton's film making career, I was eager to read it.

This book begins with a brief history of Burton's childhood and then is broken down into sections based on the types of films made. The first section is title "Happy Horrors" and discusses the films "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" and "Beetlejuice". The second section is "Strange Heroes" and is about "Batman" and "Edward Scissorhands". Additional section titles include: Poetry into Plot, Drop-dead Gorgeous, Head Cases, Time Warps, Just Desserts, Family Plots, and Peculiar Children. Each section encompasses a type of film style that Burton used, and gives some history about how he came to make the films, and some descriptions of the film-making process. The book is chronological, taking the reader through Burton's history of film-making. It includes his most recent works on films such as the live action "Dumbo" and the much-loved television series "Wednesday". I really enjoyed learning about some of my favorite films and now have a list of additional movies that I plan to see.

Thank you to #NetGalley for an eARC of the most recent edition of #TimBurton by #IanNathan in exchange for honest feedback.

This is a new March 2024 edition of a book originally published in 2016. In this fascinating 192-page book, film writer Ian Nathan discusses Burton’s work as a director, from his early animated shorts to the Wednesday streaming series and his upcoming release, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Nathan combines biographical information about Burton, stories and interviews about his filmmaking process, and analysis of the films, accompanied by lots of behind the scenes photographs, stills, and promotional pieces.

I was delighted by the comprehensiveness of this overview and found myself wanting to rewatch many of these films.

At 9 x 10.25 inches, this attractive hardcover book would make a wonderful gift for any Burton fan and be an interesting addition to your coffee table.

Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group and White Lion Publishing for providing me with an electronic ARC through NetGalley. I volunteered to provide an honest review.

Tim Burton's movies are quite recognizable. Featuring gothic and spooky vibes and undertones, each movie is brilliantly written and superbly cast. There is no mistaking the films that are Tim Burton's handiwork.

I love many of his creations including Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, James and the Giant Peach (my favorite book as a kid), and my absolute favorite Tim Burton movies: Beetlejuice and Sleepy Hollow. These movies, plus others are recounted in this book. I can't wait to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice!

Included on the pages are pictures, behind-the-scenes views, and wonderful depictions of Tim's work.

This is a fabulous book. There's so much to look at and read that you'll keep returning to it. It's not a book to sit on a shelf, it's a book to keep out and keep flicking through; it's guaranteed to make you smile.

There are pictures from making the movies, actors and sets. There are details about the movies and more importantly about the man!

I really love Tim Burton since I was child. My sister and I used to watch all his movies together so obviously I had to read this book. And whoa! What can I say? It shows you Burton's work over the decades. The pictures are truly amazing and I love the way they are organized.

One of the things I love the most about Burton's movies are the photography, and the film stills that appears in here are just something else. I would love to be a filmmaker someday so reading this was an amazing privilege. Even if you don't love Tim Burton you should take a look because it's gonna surprised you a lot.
