Thought this was fab. A really engaging beach read whilst I was on holiday. Yeah the premise has been done before but something about this felt fresh. I enjoyed the fast paced and found it easy to read.

I think this was overhyped. It's perfectly fine. Like, nothing groundbreaking about it. It's a movie like read. If that is your sauce, you're going to absolutely love this one.

This Girl's a Killer is the perfect novel for you to read if you want something light and fast-paced. The story has its twists and turns, some of them more surprising than others, but it kept me entertained and I couldn't wait to know how the story would end. It was definitely a good summer read.

I wanted to like this book but I just couldn't get into it. Even though I didn't like it, I know that there are others who will so I will recommend it to people who like dark comedy and serial killers.

Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced reading copy.

The female "Dexter" we have all been waiting for. So unhinged, addictive, and yet satirical and self-aware. While we all want to root for women's rights, it is so much fun to also support all their wrongs.

Honestly I wanted to like this since the premise sounded good but as I kept reading I felt like it was trying to be like “the mindf*ck series” and just not as good in comparison.

If you liked Dexter and love Louboutin, then you will fall head over heels for this book! It was a fun and fast read that’s perfect for fans of all things true crime with a female gaze.

This Girl’s a Killer by Emma Wells is a perfectly decent beach read—light, fast-paced, and easy to dip in and out of. It hits all the expected beats of the genre, with a sharp lead character and a twisty enough plot to keep things ticking along.

That said, it doesn’t quite stand out in a crowded field. There are many books playing in this same space, and while this one is enjoyable, it doesn’t really elevate itself above the pack. If you’re looking for something fun and familiar, this will do the job—but don’t expect it to linger with you afterward.

3.75/5 stars
Cordelia Black is the vigilante anti-hero I didn't know I needed. Pharma rep by day, karma by night - eliminating the worst men who've escaped justice. Think Dexter with better fashion sense.
What hooked me was her razor-sharp wit and genuine love for her chosen family. The friendship with Diane and her sassy goddaughter was chef's kiss - showing how fulfilling platonic bonds can be without needing romance to complete the story.
The pacing had me stressed in the best way. Just when Cordelia has her "hobby" perfectly systematized, everything unravels spectacularly. Between suspicious boyfriends and the worst timing for unexpected visitors, my anxiety was through the roof.
This scratched the same itch as Dexter - rooting for a morally grey character who makes murder feel like justice. The dark humor balanced perfectly with genuinely tense moments.
A solid debut that's both entertaining and addictive. Desperately hoping for a sequel because I need more of Cordelia's organized chaos.

Generally very repetitive - I caught a few errors and typos that I know will be (or have already been) corrected in the published edition. The dialogue, in particular, stood out as a weak point in the writing, but the found family element and the new take on a woman serial killer was unique and interesting! A fun, breezy summer crime read.

Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this one early. Unfortunately, I didn't connect with it initially or as I went along. The hook really should have been a brutal backstory that propels the plot forward through concrete character motivations, but it's presented vaguely and makes the rest of the story a harder sell. I do love the concept and would love to see more stories like it!

This is my first book by Emma C. Wells and it's definitely not my last. Absolutely LOVED this story & the cover is what drew me in. (Don't come for me, okay? I judged the book by its cover and it paid off). I'm not the best at solving stories like this so it wasn't a surprise to me that I couldn't guess it, but this one REALLY threw me for a loop. Absolutely loveeeeed!

I thought this book had potential, but I was fairly disappointed overall. My biggest issue is how inconsistent the main character is. I couldn't get past her insisting she's the best every other paragraph while proceeding to continuously make the dumbest choices. It's written like you are supposed to root for her, but at no point was I convinced. Most of the other characters felt pretty flat and unrelatable. I might have liked the MC better if she had a less vague backstory. The ending was unsatisfying with a few plot holes that didn't make sense at all if you have even a sliver of critical thinking skills. Some points for the humor, but I would have rather the author go full send into the dark and twisty side than a comical thriller.

A gripping, heart-stopping book with a woman killer's point of view! I've never read anything like this and what a treat! It reminds of "Dexter" series and I love it!

You won't think a successful girl like Cordelia who works as a pharma rep, who wears expensive clothes and shoes would be a serial killer. Anyways, she doesn't like to be called a serial killer but a person who has "a greater power that has sanctioned her to deliver vengeance to monsters and justice to victims." Her killing style is flawless and well planned and you would think she will be caught but there's no body. The hiding body part is genius. Everything in her life is perfect, she takes control of her life until her bestfriend's boyfriend came, Simon. Cordelia is confuse whether he is a monster or just an A-hole. But everything went sideways from there.

First of all, the POV is chef's kiss. I love how you can only see the point of view of a killer. It's interesting how Cordelia thinks, plans and executes her killing. Sometimes she is also funny which I like.

The plot is engaging that sometimes I stop reading because I don't want to know what will happen to Cordelia. The book is already interesting in the beginning because of the killer's point of view but it escalates at half of the book. The time when somebody saw her killing and disposing the body. It was hair-rising! Then the panic and chaos Cordelia felt with her current situation. She was a mess but she handled it somehow. Everything keep on intensifying and there's no stopping until the end! It's a roller coaster experience and I love it.

The ending was satisfying to me. The incident that happen with Dianne and how she reacted to knowing the truth. Then the news about the so called serial killer. I think everything is executed well. Overall this is such a fun and great read! It's been awhile since I have an interesting read and I'm glad I picked this.

Cordelia Black is a successful, sharp-witted woman… who also happens to be a serial killer with a strict moral code. She keeps her double life in check with careful planning—until chaos creeps in through work drama, a suspicious new boyfriend, and one very annoying dog.

This debut thriller by Emma C. Wells had me hooked. Cordelia gives major Dexter-meets-Joe-Goldberg energy—but as a fierce, loyal woman who’ll do anything to protect her chosen family. Fast-paced, darkly funny, and full of twists!

This book was such a fun read. It gave me major “Dexter Vibes” and I loved it! Things were going good until they weren’t. Then it was pure chaos that was wrapped up nicely with a bow at the very end. The only question I have is, what happened with McSmiley? And why he didn’t follow up with Cordelia?

This Girl's a Killer is a quirky, fast-paced mystery with a unique protagonist and a bold narrative voice. Emma C. Wells delivers a fun, if somewhat uneven, debut that blends dark humor with crime fiction in a way that’s clearly meant to stand out.

The main character is refreshingly offbeat and brings a sarcastic, unconventional perspective to the story. There are clever moments and unexpected turns that kept me reading, and the tone sets it apart from more traditional mysteries.

That said, I gave it 3 stars because while the premise had promise, the execution didn’t always land. The plot felt a bit scattered at times, and some character motivations weren’t as fleshed out as they could’ve been. It occasionally seemed like style was prioritized over substance.

Still, readers looking for something different in the mystery genre—especially with a sharp, edgy tone—may find this an entertaining ride. A solid debut with room to grow.
