Entertaining and fun read, Cordelia is a killer worth rooting for. Cordelia's character development was dynamic and made you want to see her win. The plot was fast-paced, interesting and you were with Cordelia the whole time wondering what she was going to do next. I loved her relationship with Diane and her daughter. However, I felt that the cop love interest and her job storyline did not do anything overall for the story and was distracting. 3.5 stars rounded up.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

from the beginning, tension and anger between the main characters was far too strong. i can’t believe they actually had any “good” feelings at that moment. however, throughout the book they quickly changed and became the softest, kindest couple.
even though reading the book in a book was kind of awkward… i loved how they expressed their emotions while working together.

Really good one, definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I really liked when the story of joanie came out, that really blew my mind, though i wont tell. I also really like reading this from the pov of cordelia, i dont think i have read a book from this pov before. You really get into her mind, showing how yes she does bad things, but is she a bad person? She is likeable for sure, and she has good intentions. Its just really interesting because it shows its not all black and white. Really well written.
Thank you to netgalley and the author for sending me the book in exchange for an honest review

You can take the title of this book literally that’s for sure! This book follows Cordelia Black who has a side quest to get rid of evil men that have either evaded justice or just haven’t been caught yet. This book was giving me a mix between the bandit queens and the mind f*ck series however without the connection to the characters. I just hated Cordelia with a passion throughout this entire book, the way her subconscious spoke was very psychopathic and even though these men she was killing were not good human beings the way she dealt with them and her thought processes/justifications just didn’t sit right with me and I think that’s what this book is supposed to make you question - your ideas of justice and i guess if people like this deserve the death penalty/harsher punishments. The writing was okay for me nothing too spectacular and Cordelia’s relationships with her best friend and her best friends daughter made me feel uncomfortable and the constant negative thoughts/feelings from her just made me to be honest feel sick and annoyed. Although I appreciated the thoughts this book provoked I didn’t agree with how these characters were portrayed and if it was necessary to be done this way.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. This book officially publishes on 10/29/24!
This book was such a fun ride! I’ve seen comments relating this as a female version of Dexter, to which I must say I agree. It did take me a bit to become invested in this one but once I was, I was hooked and literally could not look away until the last page. This novel features some great character development, putting the readers directly into the mind of the main character - so much so that I felt some pseudo anxiety for her! If you are a fan of thrillers or crime related stories, I definitely recommend giving this one a read!

A serial killer you can root for? Who would have thought I'd be hoping a serial killer is successful and can stay hidden. Cordelia Black is many things; a polished pharmaceutical representative, a best friend, a godmother, a woman who has overcome her own tragic past, and yes, a stalker and killer of bad men. Cordelia has a plan for everything, but we know what happens to the best laid plans, they go awry. Can Cordelia adjust and stay under the radar of the police, even when her best friend has made an unfortunate choice in boyfriends? Throw in an adorable devil dog named Mango and watch the antics. And, oh yes, find out what works better on a decomposing body; kitty litter or ice.
My thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ecopy. My opinion is my own.

I adore a strong female character and this book offers multiple to read about. This Girl's a Killer is a fun read that I think many book clubs will enjoy. My only complaint is there was a lot of repetitive parts in the story. This book is still worth the read in my opinion. Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press, Emma C. Wells, and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC.

Emma C. Wells’ debut novel, "This Girl’s A Killer", introduces readers to Cordelia Black—a polished pharmaceutical rep by day and a killer of bad men by night. Cordelia’s life is all about control, from her designer wardrobe to her meticulous nocturnal missions. But when the media starts speculating about a serial killer in South Louisiana, Cordelia’s carefully managed double life begins to unravel, especially as her best friend Diane starts dating someone Cordelia doesn’t trust.
This book is a fast-paced, wildly entertaining thriller that’s equal parts suspenseful and darkly funny. Think of it as Dexter with a satirical twist or I Love Lucy gone murderously rogue—Cordelia’s misadventures are as tense as they are unexpectedly hilarious. Wells masterfully balances Cordelia’s growing anxiety with moments of sharp, dark humor that made me laugh even as the stakes grew higher.
As the story spirals, everything that can go wrong does, and Wells’ knack for twists keeps you hooked until the end. The writing captures Cordelia’s unraveling with precision, making her a compelling character to root for, even when her moral compass points in questionable directions.
While the book is undeniably gripping, it does suffer slightly from repetitive descriptions, which can occasionally pull you out of the action. That said, the energy and creativity of the plot more than compensate, making this a standout addition to the growing subgenre of morally complex female killers.
Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for the advance copy. If you enjoy thrillers with a dash of dark humor and a protagonist who’s as chaotic as she is captivating, This Girl’s A Killer is well worth the read.

Cordelia Black is a pharmaceutical sales person. The product that she mainly sells has come under scrutiny and recall. That is the beginning of her life definitely going off track.
A "Dextor" type story that was fun. I enjoyed the relationship between Cordelia, Diane and Samantha (Diane's daughter and Cordelia's god daughter).

Oooooh a fun lady serial killer thriller/romance. Cordelia is a good serial killer though. She only goes for bad bad men. And a bad bad man is trying to invade her close knit family.
Thank you NetGalley. I loved it.

Real question, what's better than a stabby FMC?! Especially one that's a vigilante taking care of disgusting men. Cordelia Black is a woman on a mission. By day, she's a successful professional and by night she is very serious about her, umm, hobby? 🔪 As hard as she works to rid the world of bad men, she loves just as hard and will do whatever it takes to protect her best friend and goddaughter, ANYTHING it takes.
I didn't realize this was a debut novel until after I had finished, the writing nor plot gave absolutely no indication. I will 💯 be in the lookout for more from Emma C. Wells and 🤞🏼 more adventures with Cordelia!

Hello Thriller fans!!!!! This one is for you. The book has Dexter but a female lead all over it and I am here for it! The synopsis is perfect and the books execution is phenomenal!

A woman who kills men who deserve it? Good for her.
I was not prepared for the amount of anxiety I would be feeling as I flew through reading this. There were so many theories I had that I ended up being wrong about, which was great because I got to have several panicked "Oh snap!" moments.
There were a few things I didn't necessarily like that had me kinda leaning towards a 3 star rating but that final chapter? Ms. Wells didn't hold back, and I love her for that.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy the “good for her” type suspense books in which the female main character takes justice into her own hands and this one falls into that category. If you enjoy the dark humor and crime fiction of Finlay Donovan, this is a great read for you.
The story of Cordelia and her friendship with Diane, how they bonded in college and forged a fierce loyalty drew me in as a reader. Many women can relate to these friendships. But Cordelia takes that loyalty very seriously.
My main critique with this book was that I thought some of Cordelia's inner monologue could have been edited down. A lot of it became repetitive after a while. Cordelia spent a lot of time contemplating things and justifying actions to herself. The points were made early on.
But I really enjoyed the story itself and all the characters. I’d recommend it to other readers who enjoy the same type of themes.

I struggled with this one as I think it just wasn’t for me. I personally think it was just written good but just not my type of story. I just didn’t find myself wanting to pick it up and keep reading but I think you should try it out for yourself.

“I mused over the fact that if the past month taught me anything, it was that mostly foolproof was the best you could hope for. In life. In love. In body disposal.”
I support women’s rights… and wrongs. This is a super fun cat-and-mouse thriller, perfect for fans of Dexter and Butcher and Blackbird.
This Girl’s A Killer follows FMC Cordelia Black- successful pharma rep by day and vigilante, serial killer (of bad men only) by night. I have to say I really adored Cordelia and, however twisted, was rooting for her the entire time. I loved Diane as well, she’s the perfect contrast character; the calm to Cordelia’s crazy. Their friendship and loyalty towards one another is unmatched. I expected a little bit more from Christopher’s character, but it was fun to see Cordelia (or should I say Sweet Cordelia’s) ruse in action. While we do see Simon through Cordelia’s twisty perspective, the author did a great job of writing an unsettling character. He definitely made my skin crawl.
This book is super fun. It captured my attention from the very beginning and kept it the entire time. The middle of the story is super fast-paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was so interested to see how in the world she was going to get herself out of the sticky situations unfolding around her. I can’t say much more without spoiling anything but I’d highly recommend picking this up.
“How do I look?”
I did a little turn.
“Killer,” Diane said.
“Perfect- that’s exactly what I was going for.”

Thank you to the publisher for sending this my way in exchange for review.
So i purely only digged this out of my backlog due to working at barnes and noble and it happens to be a pick this month. I sadly didn't enjoy it. there are way better written books with this same trope out there and i would recommend them over this one.

If this is a debut novel, then I cannot wait to see what Ms. Wells comes up with next!
This book was a wild, fun, darkly humorous ride. Cordelia Black is a successful Pharma rep by day, and serial killer by night, taking out the bad guys one at a time. She is far from your stereotypical image of a killer; Cordelia is outgoing, well-put together, and beloved. She is God-Mother to her best friends' daughter; a role which she takes very serious. Things are going swimmingly until Cordelia's BFF begins dating a creepy guy, one who gives off a terrible vibe and Cordelia isn't convinced that this guy has good intentions.
If you are a fan of Dexter, FMC, and unexpected endings, then this is the book for you!
Many thanks to Poisoned Pen Press, NetGalley, and the author for this ARC.

4.5
This was such a fun read! This mystery thriller definitely kept you on your toes.
Cordelia Black was not someone you wanted to mess with. She was very protective of those close around her. She did whatever needed to be done in order to live. Med sales rep by day and killer at night. This female power book definitely was something I needed right now. Spooky season may be over but this was really good. The writing style was very well written, I never got bored with the reading. It may have seemed rushed at the end but this is a book I would recommend to those who are just waiting to know what was next!

I was really excited for this book, hoping to get a badass female Dexter and while the similarities were there, each having their “code,” it fell a little flat for me. The book started slow and it took some time to get to the part that shows “she’s a Killer.” I found myself putting it down and reading other books since I was in the mood for a edge of my seat thriller. The problem was it took so long to get to the thrilling part.
I also felt there were parts that were so repetitive. How many times did I need to hear that the one character grabbed her violently? And then adding the details that explained to me how this is bad, like I couldn’t put two and two together. It was beyond frustrating. I found myself rolling my eyes many times throughout the book at Cordelia's explanations to the reader.
Another frustration was the decaying body in the house. Serial killers must be meticulous to stay free and this just didn’t match with that. It almost seemed like it was added for the shock factor. I would have rather read more about the killings then what happened to the body afterwards. There were also some loose ends that were never tied up. Overall, I stuck with it to the end, but it was not my favorite.
What I did like in the book was the found family storyline. I love her relationship with her best friend.
