“This Girl’s a Killer” by Emma C. Wells follows a female serial killer who only kills men who deserve it- men who have somehow evaded justice. When her best friend begins dating someone she’s not sure is a good person, her world begins spinning out of control. What will she do to make sure her friend stays safe?
This book was SUCH a quick read. I was invested from page one. Cordelia Black is such an odd main character that you had to constantly wonder, “what will she do next?” I was torn- do I root for her? Or should she step back and find better ways to impart justice? It was a weird time mentally, haha.
In this book, you can clearly see Black’s heart and motivation, however misguided it might be. She’s a strong main character and her humor is so fun. In fact, this whole book reads as fun, which you wouldn’t think after hearing the premise.
In the end, this book was a 5 star read for me. It was quick, witty, and kept me on my toes. If you like a quick paced thriller, this is definitely the book for you!
Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for an eARC! This book comes out October 29th!

This book is a little farfetched, and I'm not in love with the writing style. There was a bit too much repetition of some elements, such as constantly looking for the "gray smoke" in the men's eyes or the emphasis on how much the protagonist loved designer clothing - mentioned almost ad nauseum. I do think the book has an interesting premise overall, however, and I think this would make for a really good book discussion. There are some meaty topics a group can discuss, and I think there will be good appeal to fans of a Janet Evanovich-type writing style - black humor, over-the-top situations, and a strong female protagonist.

A different twist of a traditional thriller, Author Emma C. Wells mixes the conventional “cereal” unaliver themes with humor—and it works! The FMC, Cordelia, is quick with her wit throughout the story as she permanently takes care of bad men. The dialogue is written well, and I laughed at several scenes.

Though a bit slow on the front end of the story, I got more engrossed in it as it progressed. It was overall entertaining.

This book was so good for me that once I picked it up and began reading I did not stop. Cordella Blak is a heck of a character on the pages. She is a killer, godmother, and a sales rep for a pharmaceutical company. She has a plan and a system for everything she does. Things slowly at first seem to unravel when the company has a recall on a drug that she has been selling. Then her best friend begins dating again, but she does not like the guy and her friend continues to try and set her up with a nice guy accepting that he is a cop and she is a killer. She only kills bad men who have committed crimes that police cannot make stick but everyone knows that they have done. Things are slowly beginning to hotwire but she is keeping it together when she makes an unexpected killing this throws everything into a tizzy but just for a little while. Nothing like getting her hair done will take care of. This book will keep you going and you will not only be wondering about the guy in the tub but also about the dog and the neighbor. Just a fantastic book.

Stunning book.
Ready for anything she writes again...loved it!
I thought I'd be able to predict the plot and outcome but this one was too difficult- I was fooled and enjoyed being wrong.

I loved it! The female Dexter vibes drew me in, and I couldn’t put it down. The characters were all well developed. Cordelia is a pharmaceutical rep, but is also a serial killer who kills very bad men. She is very disciplined and accounts for every detail.

I love that it was not as dark as I thought it would be and that it has some comedic parts that really work well. It seems like nothing goes right for Cordelia yet she pulls through.

This Girl is a Killer was an amazing reading. I can’t wait to read more from this author! Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the chance to leave my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed the vigilante premise of this and the characters were really fun to read about. The female friendship dynamic was both unhealthy/toxic in the majority but also super funny and lovely. I wish it had a few more twisty twists but I had a good time.

My favourite serial killer by now!!!
It is a 5 stars book for sure
I just couldn't stop reading until i finished it! it was a incredibly surprising exciting reading. The last chapters was so exciting, it was knocking me out to think that Cordelia was getting almost caught by the police. It is definitely a five stars book for me and I wish with all my heart that the book will be published here in Brazil!❤️❤️❤️❤️

I sadly had to DNF this book it was so Dexter coded I was excited for it but when the main character talked about the daughter of her best friend playing Legend of Zelda on an Xbox I just couldn’t get back into the book with such a huge continuity error. I’m sad it got missed in the editing process.

Loving the premise of this Advanced Readers Copy! It’s very Dexter/Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman. It’s a really quick read! Perfect pallet cleanser after finishing the ACOTAR series. (The genres are in no way related, obviously lol)

I loved everything about this book and can't believe it's over. The pacing was brilliant, just enough to keep you on your toes and get you hooked until the end

Cordelia Black is a woman who does her homework and never starts something she plans to finish without a plan. So when the drug she's been pushing as a medical sales executive gets pulled from the market and her sample trail is audited, she's got problems. The kicker? She's been using that little blue pill to sedate her victims. That's right - Cordelia Black isn't just a red-bottom wearing pill pusher, she's also a serial killer. And she only kills bad boys. Very bad boys.

A book that felt a lot like Emerald Fennell's Promising Young Woman meets Showtime's Dexter, This Girl's a Killer was just as addictive as the medication in its main character's roller bag. From start to finish, I loved seeing Cordelia navigate situations she manufactured (dates with men she would later kill) just as much as the ones she stumbled into (was dating a cop the best idea? No. But did it stress me out as a reader in the best way? Yes). Her love for herself, her best friend Diane, and Diane's daughter and Cordelia's goddaughter sugar made it easier to empathize with - hear me out - a serial killer and I found myself rooting for her not to get caught.

Without spoiling the novel, she... does get caught. Several times. But she's quick on her stiletto-clad feet and her willingness to improvise makes her an engaging killer and protagonist. I did find the book drag a little bit towards the end - there's only so many messes someone can wriggle themselves out of before plot armor starts to feel excessive - but This Girl's a Killer is a spectacular debut from Wells. And I wouldn't be shocked if it was promptly optioned and adapted into a killer TV show or movie.

This Girl is a Killer pleasantly surprised me! It was a little different than I was expecting. I really thought this was going to be very dark for the subject matter. There was great character development. The plot was very fast paced, I couldn’t put it down once I got into the story. This is a definite must read for anyone who enjoys thrillers!
Thank.you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review!

I felt like I was going through it with Cor, and the ending omg I felt like it was starting all over again in a good way. I liked the book, it was a fun read. I had some trouble with some words but luckily my kindle helped. Otherwise I felt it was a smooth read.

Maybe 2.5 stars rounded up? I kind of had the same problem with this one that I did with Between Lies and Revenge (which I DNFed), and it’s that I didn’t particularly care about or root for the main character. Like, the way she’s so ~edgy like oh I mix the blood of my victims with paint to make paintings because I’m an ~artist, the “code” she has of how she can decide whether she’s allowed to kill someone or not…idk. I kept wishing this had been gay and that THAT’S why Cordelia is so overprotective of Diane and her daughter, because it would’ve made a lot more sense and I’d have been way more into it, but alas. It wasn’t bad, but definitely not the best “female serial killer killing bad men” book I’ve read this year.

Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the digital ARC, all opinions are my own.

There is something so satisfying about books with a female serial killer who kills bad men. Cordelia was oddly relatable (loved that schedules and sticking to the plan was basically her whole personality).

The author did a good job depicting female rage while keeping it upbeat and comedic. The characters were complex and well written. If you get anxious or stressed reading books where everything goes wrong, this is your warning! I would also suggest looking up trigger warnings.

Overall, this was a pretty good debut book and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

As with most serial killers, something in their past has triggered this behavior and Cordelia Black is no exception.
The author has given this terror of a woman a soft side...she has a "family" she loves and protects and a high end job that keeps her well dressed and living well. This job, at a pharmaceutical company, allows her to pilfer the pills necessary to ply her craft.
Cordelia is smarter than the average killer. She has turned her determination to rid the world of these evil people into a side hustle. Dropping off the body at a determined spot to a man who sells body parts provides a econstant source of income.
Part of staying off the police radar is to have a perfect plan in place and do not waiver from it. And that is what happens to Cordelia and when the book picks up the suspense and the pace. How she escapes the various hurdles, thinks on her feet, juggles it all and still comes out ahead is a miracle.
Cordelia is a no-nonsense character you'll enjoy in spite of what you think of her personal goals in life.

I would say this is more of a drama and suspenseful read instead of a thriller. I thought this was more well done and entertaining than Bad Men which is similar in nature to the plot. It is a slow paced story. Probably not the best to read in one sitting and could’ve been about 75 pages shorter.
