Reading Between the Wines book review #38/130 for 2024:
Rating: 4 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book: Nowhere to Hide
Author: Keri Beevis
Available now!

Sipping thoughts: Keri Beevis has done it again! She knows how to make me so mad as I am reading but still unable to put the book down. Duncan was one of the most deplorable characters I have read. I could not read fast enough to see how Callie was going to escape and get vengeance. Beevis knows how to write unlikable characters, and this is my 4th book of hers and I can’t get enough. I am excited to see what comes out next.

Cheers and thank you to @BoldwoodBooks, @Keri.Beevis and @Netgalley for an advanced copy of @NowhereToHide.

I was hooked from the very first page! Told from the POV of Callie, who meets an A-lister actor, Duncan Stone. She falls in love and moves with him to the country and leaves her life behind. Unfortunately Duncan may look good, but his intentions are not. He is an abusive, cruel man with a narcissistic and somewhat sadistic dark side. He keeps her in the house, not letting her communicate with the outside world. She plots her escape and ends up living with one of her friends brothers, Nico, on his estate, praying that she will be safe. Her shocking experiences have made her hyperaware, is she right to her fears and paranoia or is she safe at Stable Cottage on Willow Brook Farm? Who can she trust?
This book had me wanting to look over my shoulder.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review this book. I had high hopes for this book as I'd seen most of this author's work get great ratings. This story, which is about a woman feeling an abusive relationship is fairly predictable in some ways. There are a few surprises and a decent twist in the end, which saved the book for me. It started off well and then just slowed right down. The abusive ex, who is a famous former actor, seems to be pretty one-dimensional and so does the main character. Callie escapes her controlling and violent ex and is in hiding with the adoptive brother of a former friend. Sparks fly, which I found a bit groaningly cliche, and there was a lot of focus on Callie being shell-shocked (obviously with very good reason), but it never went anywhere until the final lead-up to her ex inevitably and predictably finding her. But again, there was a decent twist that I didn't see coming. There was a murder, which came with some misdirection etc. but it didn't really add much to the story, as it was confusing where the focus was supposed to be at times. I'll give the author's other books a try to see if this was just a one-off.

This is a fantastic read, I was hooked from the very first page.

Keri Beevis' is becoming one of my all time favourite authors and Nowhere to Hide is worth a read.

We meet main character Callie, who meets an A-lister actor, Duncan Stone. She falls in love and moves with him to the country and leaves her life behind.

We learn that Duncan is a sadistic and cruel man, and the things he puts Callie through is horrific. She plots her escape and ends up living with one of her friends brothers on his estate.

Callie and Nico become close and that is a story in itself. Really good plot, narration and well rounded and likeable characters.

Told through the perspective of mainly Callie, each chapter is from the past or the present and its a gripping read.

Thanks to Netgalley, Keri Beevis and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Ok this was a thriller!!

Duncan Stone, is one of the country's most sought-after bachelors, he sweeps Callie Parker right off her feet from all his attention. Initially excited by their whirlwind romance, Callie soon finds that her her dream is actually a nightmare after she discovers Duncan's true nature-he's controlling and manipulative. Cut off from her support network, Callie finds herself trapped and isolated, she soon realizes she needs to escape and it’s her way to survive. Seeking refuge in the Norfolk countryside, she lives with fear and paranoia, haunted by the sense of being watched. As the tension escalates, Callie questions whether Duncan has found her or if the danger lurks closer to home! There were times while reading that my stomach turned from some of the abuse scenes he was truly a monster! But I loved the book

Thank you @rararesoucres for letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. Nowhere to Hide is a psychological thriller genre. If you like psychological, This book is for you. The story about Callie, who come across a bachelor Duncan, he wants to take her on a date, and then he asks her to move in but he's not the man she first thought he was. I found the first chapter a bit slow and hard to get into, but after that I was gripped to the end. I did not like Duncan, he was controlling and not very nice to Callie and I felt she deserved better. There is a great amount of tension in the book and there are some good twists and turns that you won't see coming. There were times I wanted to give Callie a shake. I was on tenterhooks reading this book. A gripping read, 4 stars. This is the first book I have read by Keri Beevis and I will be reading more. I liked the title and the front cover, there is some bright colours that attract you to the book and the plot works well. A beliveable read

There is literally nowhere where Callie can go once Duncan gets his sights on her on their first date.

A nail-biter of a thriller where things go bump in the night and someone is always lurking in the shoulders.

Nowhere to Hide will have you looking over your shoulder everywhere you go!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Nowhere to Hide" by Keri Beevis is a heart-pounding psychological thriller that had me completely engrossed from the very first page. This gripping tale of love, obsession, and survival kept me on the edge of my seat and left me unable to put it down until the very end.

Beevis has crafted a masterful story with compelling characters and a plot full of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the final page. The protagonist, Callie Parker, is relatable and sympathetic, and I found myself rooting for her as she navigated the terrifying reality of her relationship with Duncan Stone.

The tension builds steadily throughout the novel, as Callie's once-idyllic romance with Duncan spirals into a nightmare of control and manipulation. Beevis expertly captures the suffocating atmosphere of fear and paranoia that surrounds Callie as she struggles to escape from Duncan's clutches and find safety.

What I loved most about "Nowhere to Hide" is its unrelenting pace and relentless suspense. Each chapter ends with a tantalizing cliffhanger that kept me eagerly turning the pages, desperate to uncover the truth behind Callie's ordeal and discover if she would ultimately find a way to break free from Duncan's grip.

As a fan of psychological thrillers, I can confidently say that "Nowhere to Hide" is one of the best I've read. It's a chilling and compulsively readable story that will keep you up at night, unable to shake its grip long after you've finished reading.

In summary, "Nowhere to Hide" is a must-read for anyone who loves a thrilling and suspenseful tale of love, obsession, and survival. I highly recommend it to fans of the genre, and I can't wait to read more from Keri Beevis in the future.

Wow! This was a wild ride and I loved it! Such a gripping story and I couldn't put the book down! It is sad to think that there are men like this out there doing this to their partners every single day! This was my 1st book by Kerri Bevis, but will definitely not be my last!

Duncan is charming and handsome but underneath he is a control freak, a nightmare, and a devil all rolled into one.
When he takes a liking to Callie, the relationship moves fast. Then he isolates her. Makes it look like she is not stable to her family and her job. He s abusive both physically and mentally.. She even gets rid of her dog to keep the dog safe.
Then she decides to go to her sister for help but that backfires. But help she does get and tries to start over again by old friends. Even to start a new relationship with a man. Someone I liked from the start.
I could not put this book down and I hope to read more books by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc to review.

This book!! This was one of my favorite books of the year! It was definitely dark and sometimes hard to read but I could not put it down. I am a huge, hugee animal lover and cannot read any animal abuse, especially dogs. While this book danced the line, it never crossed it and it was a happy ending for the sweet pup! 5 stars, can't wait to read more by Keri Beevis.

Nowhere to Hide by Keri Beevis was another excellent book from start to finish, especially as it was a great page turner. The characters were great and there was a good mixer of them, one's you loved and ones you hated which made this book excellent! Callie the main characters story was very raw and honest and you could really feel for her.
Nowhere to hide was beautifully and carefully written Plus very addictive completely and this book will have you guessing right till the end.

I loved it and highly recommend this book. A great holiday read.

This is my third Keri Bevis book and it won’t be my last. The author takes a very sensitive subject and does it complete justice. This is a story of coercive control and it was horrifying and fascinating to see how someone can be manipulated and isolated so easily. It was not an easy read in the type of abuse that happens but it felt really authentic and believable. I think that coercive control is really important to highlight and depict given how newly accepted and talked about it is.

FABULOUS story line delving into the horror of being trapped in an abusive relationship. Great characterization with lots of suspense leading up to a shocking conclusion. First time reading this author but have bought another of her books along with requesting another for my local library. RECOMMEND highly for a very satisfying read. Thanks to #NetGalley/#Boldwood books for #Nowhere to hide, in exchange for my honest review.

I think this book gives that saying "A wolf in sheep's clothing" a whole new meaning. Duncan Stone is very much the epitome of a predatory wolf. He's cunning, violent, prone to anger, manipulative, and an all around horrible guy. It's a shame Callie thought he was Prince Charming when she met him. Duncan could pour on the charm and win everyone over to his side. It's just a shame that was his exterior facade covering up the monster he was inside. Trigger alert for anyone sensitive to domestic violence in stories. This one if full of it. Duncan creates a whole new definition to domestic violence and cruelty. He's determined to get what he wants and won't let anyone or anything get in his way. This is an intense psychological thriller that has Callie literally running for her life. Can she ever live a life free of fear, constantly looking over her shoulder and jumping at every noise? Will she have the strength and time to rebuild her live and mental stability? Good writing, good character development, action, romance, murders, and so much more. I really enjoyed this book.
