Oh the uber rich. How we love to hate them. And there is a lot to fuel that sentiment here. Alex's older sister, Maddie, has gone missing. They have been very close, until a recent disagreement opened a rift between them. But no way would Maddie just disappear. So, Alex tracks her sister's last known location in the Hamptons and begins to unravel the mystery herself, since the local police, while midly interested, don't seem to be as concerned. Alex has a lot to uncover as the story unfolds and she finds out the multitude of ways that privileged rich folk behavior can hide horrible secrets from those who have it and those who covet it.

Really enjoyed this writing style! It was a quick read and I felt myself immersed in the story. I couldn’t imagine loosing my sister and trying to figure out what happened to her.

This book left me confused rather than intrigued. I didn’t understand why some of the points of view were present in the book as they didn’t seem to add value. I think this led to my gripes with the plot being long and drawn out, and borderline boring. I never did feel fully engaged or really that I cared. I just wasn’t invested. The twists were present, but because there were so many points of view, it was too convoluted.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Let’s just say that I am one of those people who wants to read a book based on the cover alone (I mean the cover for this book is stunning). Unfortunately, for this book the cover was way better than the story. I had super high hopes for this book, but it was very underwhelming. The story dragged on, and the writing felt very juvenile (maybe if I was in my 20’s or 30’s, I would have appreciated it more).

In this story, we have Alex who goes searching for her missing sister Maddie in the Hampton’s. Maddie’s last known residence was at the Blackwell’s mansion, where she resided in their pool house. No one in the Blackwell family has heard from Maddie in days, and Alex knows that she would never miss her birthday. Therefore, Alex goes on a mission of her own questioning and following anyone who may have had contact with Maddie.

This book is told in alternating chapters of Alex, Maddie (before), Lily, Katherine, Theo, James, and The Wharf (but why?!). This story had way too many eye-roll moments for me, and was super far-fetched. I’m not sure if it was longer than necessary or if I just couldn’t wait for it to be over? Anyways, I can’t say that I would recommend this book as it wasn’t one of my favorites. However, in reading the Acknowledgments at the end it seems there are film rights for this book- so maybe I just don’t know what I’m talking about.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book by Stephanie DeCarolis and hope to read more by this author in the future.

The character building was extremely well done. I felt like I really got to know the main character and her motivations. While many of the other characters weren't at all likable, the author did a good job of bringing out all the mannerisms that made their behaviors stand out. This made the book more powerful in many ways.

The descriptions of places the character ended up were also well done. Overall, this was a great book to read.

The Perfect Sister is a mystery/thriller set in the Hamptons. It starts with Alex who is desperate to find her older sister. She had a falling out with her sister, Maddie, after their mom died. Alex travels to the Hamptons after she can't get a hold of her sister to find out what is going on. Alex connects with Lily, the daughter of a wealthy family, and finds out that her sister had been staying with them. As Alex digs deeper the mystery slowly starts to unravel, however there is so much more to the story than she ever imagined.

This was a good book with a solid plot and twist at the end. What I really enjoyed was that the novel was told in multiple viewpoints. It was great to see into the minds of all of the main characters to see what their motivations might be. A great summer novel filled with thrilling moments and mystery!

Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this book. I am glad I was able to read the arc as. This story had family drama, suspense, murder, privilege behaving bad, and twists and turns not expected. I thought the pacing was great and with just enough fluff to fill the pages. I think this book will do well.

Prepare to escape to the Hamptons and dive into an ocean of secrets, betrayal, and twists you never see coming.
Maddie and Alex share a close sisterly bond, but after a falling out when their mother dies, Maddie disappears in the Hamptons. Alex leaves her small town life behind and settles in the Hamptons to solve the mystery of where Maddie is. What she discovers is far worse than she could imagine. Did Alex ever really know Maddie?
This novel was hard to put down and the setting of the story felt like I was whisked away to the charming beach town. Thank you NetGalley and Bantam Random House for the advanced copy!

The Perfect Sister was a great vacation read! Grab this for the beach/pool this summer.

Alex's sister Maddie has disappeared so she goes to the Hamptons looking for her. The sisters have been low/NC since their mother's funeral so Alex has little information to go on.

Alex ends up staying with the same rich family that Maddie was living with prior to her disappearance.

Well done thriller. Release date July 16th.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Wow this book had the twists!! This was my first book by this author, and it did not disappoint.
This book follows Alex, who's sister Maddie has gone missing in the Hamptons. Alex goes to the Hamptons to try to find her sister and becomes involved with family that Maddie was staying with, the Blackwells. This story also has POV's from the members of the Blackwell.
This story takes you on a crazy ride while Alex tries to find out what happened to Maddie. Overall was a great book with drama, secrets, and things I did not see coming. I recommend for anyone looking for a fun. easy, fast paced, twisty read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Summary: Alex and Maddie are sister who did not have an easy life. They become estranged following a fight after their mother’s death. When Maddie vanishes after canceling her annual trip home for Alex’s birthday, Alex becomes worried. Alex follows Maddie's last clues to the Hamptons, where she encounters the Blackwell family. As she delves into their world of wealth and privilege, Alex learns that appearances are deceptive and that luxury has its price.

Thoughts: This story is told from multiple points of view and different timelines. No one in the Hamptons is who they appear to be, and this story will keep you guessing until the end. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong.

🗣️ This was my first book from this Stephanie DeCarolis but it certainly will not be the last! She has a way of spinning a story with unpredictable twist that keeps you turning the page. This would be a great summer read for the beach or the pool!

✨ Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley.

This is a story about a girl who goes searching for her missing sister and ends up staying in the guest house of the family her sister had been staying with while she searches for her.

I did enjoy the mystery of figuring out what happened to her sister. There was so much going on and so many people that were acting suspicious. In fact, it felt like all of the characters had a dark side. There were definitely some twists that I did not see coming.

Overall, I think this was a good story.

Two sisters, Alex and Maddie, didn’t have the easiest life growing up.

Maddie finds herself leaving home to go to school while Alex stays home to care for their mother. Maddie made a promise to be together every birthday, until this one.

Alex sets off to find her missing sister, in the Hamptons.

This story was full of suspicious characters, a few twists I was not expecting and an ending I wish I had a bit more from.

Told from multiple POVs, who can we trust? Where did Maddie go? Is Maddie who we think she is?

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

I am writing a review on a book titled "the Perfect Sister". The author is Stephanie DeCarolis and it is Published by Random House Publishing.
The Publication date is set for July 16, 2024.
At this time, I would like to Thank Stephanie DeCarolis, Random House Publishing and Net Galley for an ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.
This book is in the General Fiction/Mystery Thrillers category. It will make a great summer read.
The story starts out detailing the characters of two sisters, Alex and Maddie. The first several chapters outline the background of their life together, the father who abandoned them and their grief-stricken Mother who becomes an alcoholic after she turns to alcohol for her comfort.
The Sisters are so close in age, their actions and mannerisms have many around them believing they are twins. They enjoy being called twins and almost believe it themselves.
After the death of their mother, they are alone in the world and each with a different reaction to their Loss, they separate, and their relationship grows cold. Much time goes by in between when they contact each other. After a long period of not hearing from her sister Maddie, Alex has the sense something is very wrong.
Alex travels to where she knows Maddie has been living, where she last has been working and contacts those that Maddie is acquainted.
Things don't add up, there is a tone of foreboding in the air.
Alex is led to the Blackwell family in the Hamptons, they are one of the wealthiest families in the area, with their big mansion home, their pool and pool house. There is no end to their wealth, but within this family there are secrets. No one seems to answer the questions Alex has about her sister Maddie. Is Maddie alive or dead is a fear she lives with as she closes her eyes each night.
There are many twists and turns amidst the sinister atmosphere.
This was a fast read and I was quite surprised the twists and turns and how it ended.
I would recommend this book. I know many will enjoy the unexpected ways this book takes it's reader.

My Thoughts

When does one let go of the past and learn how to live in the now?

That is a question that both Alex and her older sister Maddie finally find the answer to in this odd mystery suspense thriller which is also a hard one to put down until all your questions are answered.

There is a myriad of clues, many red herrings as well, before the reader gets those much needed answers.

The Walker sisters’ story is told from multiple viewpoints with some past to present chapters as well and for me was a prime example of why privilege from wealth does not come without cost.

A very solid twisted tale that kept me guessing all the way till the end.

WOW. I did not see that ending come!

When Alex and Maddie were younger, they made a promise to always spend their birthdays together. When Maddie doesn't show, Alex knows something is not right. Alex is determined to find her sister and heads to the Hamptons to do so. She spends days walking the steps her sister had just days prior to disappearing. She finds herself at the Blackwell Manor where Maddie lived in the pool house, and nobody seems to know where she has gone. Are they trying to help her find Maddie or are they being misleading? Alex knows something is not right and does not give up on her search for her sister. This story is full of lies, betrayal, suspense and danger.

I thoroughly enjoyed that I had no idea WHO the "bad guy" was until the very end. The author provides you with all the character and all the pieces, but you have no idea what is coming next. There are a lot of characters and the dual perspectives of this story kind of threw me off initially. It can be challenging at times to keep up with who is speaking and who they are in relation to the story. Once established with the storyline and who the characters are, it got much easier.
This was a quick read for me, and I really enjoyed it.

Thank you, Stephanie DeCarolis, Random House Publishing, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so good! The first part is a little slow as your start to understand who the characters are, but as their stories twist together for the perfect storm, I was exactly sure what was going to happen. I didn’t know everyone pretty much had a hand in the outcome. But I’m so glad it had a happy ending still.
