A great beginning to what I hope is a full series! I love the setting of Pearl's and the cast of characters we meet there! I'm always down for a hotel/B&B mystery with interesting guests, and this scratched that itch. There were fun references to music, My Favorite Murder, and horror movies. I think the character progression we see with Jess questioning those around her and their secrets was also interesting.

✨ALC Review✨

Peril in Pink
Sydney Leigh
Publication Date: March 19, 24 - TOMORROW

Thank you so @sydneyleigh @thrillersbookpromotions @crookedlane @dreamscape media and @netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!

The opening weekend of Jess and her best friend Kats B & B didn’t go quite the way they planned. Finding the dead body of her ex-boyfriend’s step father on the property was unexpected to say the least. Jess is determined to figure out what happened. So many obstacles arise as she tries to uncover the truth.

My thoughts:
This was a cozy small town murder mystery. I loved the whodunnit vibes.
Jess and her amateur sleuthing was very entertaining. I honestly suspected different people but had no true guess of who the murderer could be until it was revealed at the end.
I enjoyed being introduced to The Pearl B&B and the cute small town feels. I’m excited to return with the next in the series.

🎧Narration: I think this is my first audiobook narrated by Traci Odom. She did a great job keeping me engaged in the story.

Quick Take:
This was a really adorable cozy mystery - I enjoyed the characters and the setting of the super cute B&B especially. If you enjoy books like The Agathas or the Finlay Donovan series, I think you will enjoy this one. It didn't blow my mind or do anything super unique in the genre but I enjoyed listening to the audiobook and would absolutely read another book in this series!

This was a fun read! I enjoy amateur sleuths and this one did not disappoint. It was quirky and had me guessing until the end. I enjoyed the setting and the over-the-top characters. Overall, it was entertaining.

Jess and her best friend (and business partner), Kat, are thrilled for the opening weekend of their B and B in the Hudson Valley. Converted from Jess's family home, they've put in so much time and effort to get it instagram-worthy for their target demographic: women looking for an aesthetically pleasing getaway. Jess's former flame Lars has even come back to town to perform at the opening-he's been skyrocketing toward success and a performance from him can make or break the weekend. When his manager Bob turns up dead, everything's put into doubt. Can Jess and Kat save their reputation?

This is a fun murder mystery. The setting is really vivid-I could absolutely picture the lobby, the pool, the gazebo by the pond. The murders are described, but not graphically. I don't even recall swearing, only characters about to swear who get cut off. It's lighthearted, despite the murder. It's a great choice for anyone who likes Elin Hilderbrand or cozy mysteries.

This was such a fun murder mystery book. It reminded me a little bit of Findley Donovan. I was entertained the entire time, it was easy to follow, and exactly what I wanted from a book with this beautiful pink cover. I really enjoyed the ending and what this story ended up being. It is a fun book but it’s so much more than that. Jess is an excellent sleuth! I would die for a Findley Donovan X Jess crossover book!

The narrator on this book was good. I enjoyed her overall!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audio-arc book!

I came for the Schitt’s Creek vibes! this ended up being a very enjoyable cozy mystery with a wonderfully descriptive setting. The narrator was excellent for this story. I don’t think I’ve listened to something from this narrator before but she did an excellent job differentiating the voices and emotions

This was a short, cozy mystery novel! I love reading cozy mysteries. They always seems to get me out of reading funky, no matter what.

This one did exactly that. I've been having a hard time finding the desire to read or listen to audiobooks. So I was super grateful I got approved for the ALC for this book. Also the narrator was so good. I need her to narrate all of the audiobooks I listen to.

You have Jess and Kat, 2 best friends who decided to open up The Pearl B&B in Hudson Valley. You have murder, ex boyfriends, celebrities, and all the drama. If you're looking something short and cozy, this is your book!

This was such a fun audio!

Jess & Kat are celebrating opening weekend of their new, very pink B&B and hoping things go off without a hitch. Unfortunately, that's not the case, as a body turns up. Then a hot detective. Singer and Jess' ex is the prime suspect, at least to start. But it seems everyone there has a secret of some sort.

I won't lie, I had several suspects throughout, and I didn't get it right!

I felt for Jess, and her B&B sounds adorable and amazing.

This hit just right and was a fun cozy. Don't sleep on this one.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Thriller Book Lover Promotions for an ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Love a murder mystery but can’t handle it too scary?! THIS IS IT! Thrillers, not for me. Thrillers aren’t thrilling, they are stressful and induces more anxiety than I’m already dealing with. No thanks! This was the perfect blend of clues and characters, motives and alibis. Enough to make it hard to solve but not impossible!

This is a feel good kind of murder. We are following a modern day Murderino solve the case! I love all of the references to their fav podcast! A real life true crime fan solving their own case!

Gave me the same feels as the Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries by Kerry Greenwood.

It was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Love how the ending tied everything up nicely!
Would absolutely love to read more from this author!!

“Here’s a piece of advice, Ms. Byrne. ‘When people show you who they are, believe them.’”

Peril In Pink is a cozy murder mystery that takes place at an Instagram worthy Bed & Breakfast. What the new owners didn’t expect when opening their new establishment were the dead bodies…which is NOT conducive to a relaxing getaway for their clientele.

This is a super quick read and the audiobook was done well! It’s a fun and funny storyline and the narrator did a great job of capturing that.

It is very relevant to the times with a focus on the importance of social media with new businesses and the characters speaking in hashtags. And plenty of rosé. Cheees! If you enjoyed the Finlay Donovan books I think you will enjoy this one too.

Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media, Crooked Lane Books, and the author for the ALC and ARC.

Peril in Pink is a debut novel and what appears to be the first in a planned series about a Bed & Breakfast with a side of solving mysteries.

The Pearl is a Bed & Breakfast run by Jess and Kat and its their grand opening in their home town. What better way to celebrate than to have local celebrity (and ex-boyfriend of Jess) Lars Armstrong perform! He brings along his entourage, including his step-dad and manager, Bob. Things don't go as planned on the next morning, Bob is found dead. Lars is the prime suspect, but since they share history, Jess is on his side. That is until someone else turns up dead and he is at the scene of the crime.

This is a quick read and I get what the author was trying to accomplish with the B&B setting, the small town, and a motley cast of characters, but it didn't quite hit the mark. The mystery is flimsy and the book is very dialogue driven with a ton of characters. There are so many guests, old friends, family members, etc. and none of them are completely fleshed out. It was very hard for me to keep everyone straight and figure out how they were tied to Jess and/or the murders or if they even mattered. I felt like I didn't know the victims or the suspects well enough to even have an inkling of possible motives for whodunit. The ultimate resolution was just so so for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

It’s the grand opening of The Pearl B&B in Hudson Valley, and Jessica Byrne her BFF, Kat are co-partners of a new pink flamingo themed B and B.
Jess has prepared the ultimate welcome, with ex-boyfriend (who was a no show at Prom many years ago)—Lara Armstrong now a reality singing sensation performing! Only it is Prom Night 2.0 as he is once again a no show.

Next morning someone is found dead in the pool. And Lars is the prime suspect for the murder of his stepdad-turned-manager Bob.

Of course Jess is out to prove he is innocent.

I have been a mystery fan ever since I was a young girl and sat on the Library steps waiting for it to open so that I could check out my next Trixie Belton mystery – I later graduated to Nancy Drew series. Now Psychological Thriller but a still have a soft spot for mysteries and cozy mysteries are the best.

If you are a Cozy Mystery reader you know a ‘Cozy’ follows a formula.

 Fun entertaining - character based
 The crime-solver is usually a woman who is well liked, had a dog or a cat, and of course, is an amateur sleuth
 Love Interest ~ usually they don’t like each other at first.
 All the residence know each other and are likeable
 Mystery but no blood and gore
 Little to no profanity.

As a psychological thriller fan I always love the “Big Reveal’ delighted that this cozy had a surprise whodunit- someone I didn’t suspect!

It was cute and kept me hooked for the solving of the crimes. I wish it had more back story because the characters were introduced very quickly and there were a lot of them, by the end I had forgotten which characters were which. Overall a good story, just a little hard to follow.

Jess Byrne is going great... until a murder occurs on opening weekend at her B&B!

With the guests under lockdown, the B&B in the press for all the wrong reasons, and a killer on the loose, Jess is in over her head. With the help of her best friend and business partner Kat, Jess is determined to uncover the truth.

You may enjoy this if you like cozy mysteries, small town charm, high school hang ups, suspicious characters and intrigue.

What a great debut!

Such a fun and cute cozy mystery read! I think this would be a great vacation read given the setting.

I wish there had been a bit more backstory for some of the characters, but Jess and Kat made for an entertaining crime-solving duo. I really loved the B&B setting, but I feel like the mystery got lost a little bit at times.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #CrookedLaneBooks for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Nothing I love more than a cozy mystery series debut. 💕

Peril in Pink embraces the cozy mystery vibes and leans into them with best friends opening a B&B with a pink Palm Springs aesthetic & Insta-worthy vibes for their millennial visitors.

When someone is murdered during their grand opening all hell breaks lose and it’s up to them and a hot detective to solve the mystery.

This is going to be a fun series and I can’t wait to read more!

Special thanks to @crookedlanebooks @dreamscape_media for the ARC/ALC.

I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this audiobook.

Peril in Pink follows Jess as she tries to find out who killed one of her guests on the opening night of her new B&B.

First off, I have to admit that I’m not really a fan of people who listen to true crime podcasts and think that makes them a detective - it’s just annoying. Jess, who considers herself a ‘murderino’, decides that she’s going to have to be the one to solve the murder and inserts herself into the police investigation straight away.

Ignoring that part, I really liked Jess’ character, how she’d decided to drop everything to do up this old place and turn it into this great B&B with her best friend. The plot was pretty basic for a whodunnit - the breadcrumbs were there for you to pick up and follow to figure it out. I liked the setting of the B&B, but maybe not how millennial it was. There were a lot of pop culture references, which really date the story and can bring you out of the immersion.

Also why was there no swearing at all? Murder is fine to include, but god forbid someone actually get to say the word ‘ass’? It was annoying because it happened a few times - it was funny at first in the audiobook, but I don’t think I would’ve had the same reaction had I been reading it in print.

The narrator did a good job of bringing the story to life, and it was actually pretty easy to differentiate between characters

I’m not sure this book was for me, but I think it would be a good starting point for somebody wanting to get into crime/mystery, as it’s quite lighthearted and fun.

This book was an adorable cozy murder mystery. It takes place at a recently renovated B&B, starting on opening night. There is a huge line up of characters and so many people with motives. I really couldn't figure out the culprits until it was revealed at the end. Then it all makes sense. I loved the setting, both the small town and the actual B&B, plus surrounding areas. I love the family relationships, especially between owner Jess, her brother Nate and her SIL Sarah. My only complaints are 1) there is a hint of romance from the beginning of the book but then nothing happens until the very last paragraph. I was disappointed in that, and was always hoping more would be revealed but it wasn't. 2) There is a large amount of characters and I had a very hard time keeping them straight for the first half of the book. By the second half I had them figured out.

Narrator Traci Odom was new to me. I really enjoyed her reading of this. She has a unique sound, and manages to give each character a different voice while maintaining that uniqueness.

This was a cute read and I enjoyed it. I hated her ex, which I think was the point, but he got so annoying by the end. I liked the relationship between Jess and Kat, and I thought that the author did a really great job with their scenes both together and separately. I also really liked the hometown setting and the interplay of high school dynamics and current ones.

This is a great book if you are looking for a cute cozy mystery that has family dynamics and relationship heavy themes. It's an engaging story and has some fun characters.
