I have had this Civil War romance by Heather Graham, number one in a trilogy, on my TBR for an exceptionally long time. I don’t know why I’ve never gotten around to reading it because I’ve enjoyed her contemporary romantic suspense novels previously. I finally delved into this one this weekend and though it had a familiar plot, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main characters Kiernan McKay and Jesse Cameron, both southerners before the breakout of the Civil war, are old family friends that are very attracted to each other. Kiernan is expected to marry another friend, Anthony Miller, but she does not feel the same strong attraction for him that she feels for Jesse.

I am not going to go into all that happens in this book, but there is a lot before these two get together. I think one of the reasons I really connected to this story is because my five times great-grandfather, a confederate soldier died horrifically at the battle of the Battle of Seven Pines, also called the Battle of Fair Oaks near Richmond, VA in 1862. leaving behind a pregnant sixteen-year-old wife hence my existence. I have been fascinated with their story ever since I learned about it.

This is not the best romance novel I’ve ever read, but it is the story of two strong-willed lovers, both certain their beliefs were the correct ones. It takes time, longing, hardship, death, and forgiveness to realized they belong together.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC and I’m so glad I finally got around to reading it. I gave it 3 and 1/s stars rounding up to four.

I was intrigued with the book's description. It is set in historical Civil War and is a romance originally printed in 1992. I realized that I do not connect with Civil War historical romance and I did not get into the story when reading. I did not finish reading the book.
