This was a beautifully illustrated children’s book teaching elementary students ways other children have to survive in their countries. Maria (based on a real girl) struggles with her family to make food from their poor garden. The new teacher(based on Maria’s real teacher) brings new gardening methods and uses for these methods, such as as Math and Science. I like the lesson of community support, the Spanish glossary at the end, along with Maria and her teacher’s history.

I know a person who uses this book in her Sunday School classes. Its got a great message about what people of faith can do to help one another. It might also fit in right now as people are stuck at home during the pandemic and are looking toward home gardens.
