Unfortunately, I didn't realize that this was book 2 of a trilogy, or that the first two books end on cliffhangers, which I something I loathe. I have not read the first book and probably won't go back and read it or the third book. If you like a series with lots of action, twists, murky motivations, and lead characters that are morally flexible, I'm guessing this would appeal to you. It seemed to me that the leads, Camden and Ellie, kept making bad choices and getting themselves deeper into trouble instead of working their way out of it. I used to love those kinds of books, but my tastes have changed, and I don't have much patience for it any longer. My rating reflects my enjoyment of the book, but I think others who enjoy these kinds of stories would like it a lot more than I did.

Karina Halle is possibly one of the best authors of this decade and with the second installment of the artists trilogy, we go back to Javier-ellie and Camden. When it comes to romantic suspense, I think this is a great start for somebody new to the genre. You find con artist Ellie Watt trying to save her lover Camden's life and rising drug lord javier Bernal on her tail. The story develops in a way the reader doesn't expect but delivers all the great moments karina has us used to.
