I’m so very glad I chose the audiobook version of this excellent story. Hats off to the incredible Katy Sobey. She is truly a narrator power house. Her ability to switch accents and voices for each character was wildly impressive. There were points in the story when I actually forgot this was a one women show. Each character had such a distinct difference that it was so easy to pick out who was talking. Although the review audio file experienced some issues in the beginning, it was well worth the wait.

The storyline is so exciting! And I was sucked in immediately. Poor Charlotte is betrothed to a monstrous man who has been widowed more times than comfortable. Once would have been a horrible misfortune, but now it’s starting to become a pattern. No one has been able to prove he’s behind his late wives’ demise, but Charlotte is determined to get justice (and save herself).

Charlotte is a misfit in the best way. Her mother is desperate for her to bend to polite society, but she just wants to spread knowledge and lead academic discussions. Much to her mother’s dismay Charlotte, along with her cousins, a talking parrot, a horde of other wild animals, and her fiancé’s brother set out on a grand adventure to prove Viscount Hawley’s guilt.

This book is truly fun! I found myself laughing out loud and their antics and eating up Katy’s performance. The writing was great, but the narrating really tied everything together. This was my first book from the author Violet Marsh, and I will gladly be a loyal reader. Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man is filled with humor, mystery, adventure, and LOTS of tension. Charlotte may not want to get married to Viscount Hawley, but she’s not without a romantic interest! It was incredibly sweet and closed door.

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Hachette Audio, and Violet Marsh for the copy of this arc. I cannot wait to see what’s next!

Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man is a fast paced mystery with a slow burn romance. Betrothed to a suspected murdered, Lady Charlotte is willing to do just about anything to get out of her arranged marriage with Lord Talbot. While silently investing in a cafe for the peculiar, Lady Charlotte is hoping to gather evidence along the way.

There is action throughout the entire book from highway robberies to grand balls and a tangled slow burn romance with a Mr. Michael Talbot. Lady Charlotte is a strong FMC who is intent on shedding what society expects of her and high society for a quieter life filled with love and choice.

The audiobook did cut off at the end of some chapters but I didn't feel like it effected the story too much. However, I would have liked to see this one edited down. The start and ending were great but the middle got a little muddy while trying to keep up with everything going on. I felt that narrator Katy Sobey did a stellar job at narrating the story.

Thank you Forever Pub for the gifted ARC!

Lady Charlotte is betrothed to a man she suspects murdered his previous wives. Her brother’s best friend (and brother to her betrothed) Dr Matthew Talbot suspects something nefarious in the deaths of his brother’s wives as well and fears for Lady Charlotte’s safety. While trying to keep his own dark deeds hidden, he seeks a way to expose his brother for the murderer that he is. Matthew is merely protecting his best friend’s sister in trying to find a way out of her betrothal and definitely not falling for her himself… right?

I listened to the audio version of this book and genuinely enjoyed the narration. I was brought into the story and not taken out of it with the voicing of the characters like some audio books I have read.

It was initially hard to get into this one, but I loved the idea of it. Lady Charlotte is an interesting FMC, becoming co-owner of a coffee house even if it’s undignified for a woman of her status. Dr Matthew is a dynamic male lead that draws me in. I wish we saw more interactions or history between them in the beginning of the book.

I really got into this around 50% when we follow along in one of Matthew’s heists. The heist itself made me cry and made me want to keep reading. After that, I really felt the chemistry between them. I wanted to see more of their sweet romance. I genuinely loved this one and was so happy with the ending! It’s a nice, fuzzy romance with a bit of mystery and intrigue. Altogether, it made for a really fun read!

Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Audio for an ARC audio book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I wanted so much to like this book, beginning when I tried to listen to the audiobook through NetGalley and was unable to do so, due to some sort of glitch that cut off the ends of chapters. I thought surely the book would make more sense once I had the complete volume in my hands from the library. Not so much. The opening of the book felt like it had started without me, because I had no idea what was going on and really didn't understand most of the characters or their purposes. From there, it was a chaos of intellectual discussions, highway robberies, masquerade balls, and a romance that felt forced and lacked chemistry. Oddly, there seemed to be a hotter love affair happening between a monkey and a parrot. I'm not sure what that was all about.

I wish I had skipped this one, but as usual, I couldn't bring myself to DNF.

Lady Charlotte Lovett is a widow, but she is still a young woman, and her father intends to find her another suitable mate. However, Lady Charlotte has other ideas for herself.

First of all, she wants to become financially independent. She has a small inheritance, and she wants to invest it. Her cousins own a coffee shop. It’s only for men, of course, but Lady Charlotte wants to offer women a similar place they can go to gather and talk politics and such. Her idea is to take a room in the back of the coffee shop and turn it into a sort of salon, where women and men can go for coffee drinks and conversation.

While the coffee up front is served dark and bitter, to the men who sit on long tables, Charlotte wants to transform the back room with sofas and chairs in cozy arrangements. The coffee served back there will also be sweeter. While her cousins were reluctant, Charlotte was putting up her inheritance to make her ideas come to life, so they agreed. Lady Charlotte was on her way to creating her own income.

But she had another motive for wanting to set up a room in the coffee house. The man her father chose for her, Viscount Hawley, has been married before. Twice, in fact. And both of his former wives died suddenly. Lady Charlotte is worried about what might happen to her if she were to become his wife, if she might face the same fate. She is desperate to find a reason not to go through with the wedding, and she thinks that the type of men who come to the coffee shop might give her some background information on the Viscount’s behavior.

As it turns out, Lady Charlotte is not the only one with questions about Hawley’s behavior. His younger brother, Dr. Matthew Talbot, also has been keeping an eye on Hawley. And when Charlotte and Matthew team up to try to bring the Viscount down, they find that they have a similar way of seeing the world. They have a spark. And that spark is creating a lot of heat. But will they be able to extricate Lady Charlotte from her engagement in time, or will the villainous Viscount Hawley disrupt all their plans?

Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man is part Regency romance, part thriller, as Charlotte and her friends and family work hard to bring down a psychopathic killer while Charlotte works to find her own voice and create a life that would make her happy at a time when women weren’t expected to be much more than a pretty face. It’s set in historical times but with modern themes and clever characters. With a slow burn romance, lots of humor, and a parrot and a monkey who steal all the scenes they’re in, this novel is fun, smart, and propulsive, with a plot that draws you in and keeps you interested.

I listened to the audio book, narrated by Katy Sobey. I thought Sobey’s narration was delightful, bringing the perfect amount of class and sophistication to the character of Lady Charlotte, making it easy to root for her and stay engaged with this story. I’m sure reading this book would be lots of fun, but listening to the audio really brings it to life. I am not a huge fan of historical novels, but I did get caught up in Lady Charlotte’s story, and I was excited to hear at the end some hints that there may be another story to be told in this universe. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for that, and for anything else author Violet Marsh writes.

A copy of the audio book for Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man was provided by Hachette Audio through NetGalley, with many thanks.

3.5 stars. This is a really solid historical romance novel. There's quite a bit of intrigue and adventure that comes right up to the line of almost making the romance secondary. I enjoyed the backstory that the MMC had in this book. He was a fairly well developed character with nuance to his personality that were interesting to uncover. The FMC was a little less interesting to me. Her main plot line seemed mainly focused on getting out of an arranged engagement to the villain character.

I thought the highwayman plot line was interesting and added some adventure and action to the story. That additional layer definitely pushed my rating up a little bit and helped to round out the story in a way that gave it a little more meat to dig into.

My biggest challenge with this book was the audio recording on NetGalley skipped parts of the story - generally dropping ends of chapters abruptly and moving on to the next chapter. I'm not exactly sure how much I missed. For the most part I could catch up with what was happening in the story, but it was definitely distracting to have a chapter end before it's obvious conclusion. Hopefully the production of the audiobook was fixed prior to publication. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ALC to read. All thoughts are my own.

I liked this book but didn’t love it. There were a lot of components I enjoyed like the characters and the plot, and it was well written. I didn’t think there was enough emphasis on the romance. I almost would have preferred if this was just labeled as historical fiction. I thought the author did a good job of including difficult topics and this made it feel modern despite being historical. The narration was fine but nothing that stood out in a positive or negative way.

“Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man” by Violet Marsh, narrated by Katy Sobey, is a delightful historical rom-com that combines family secrets, scandalous mystery, and a brother's best friend's romance. The story follows Lady Charlotte Lovett, who discovers that her betrothed, Viscount Hawley, may have sinister intentions. With the help of his brother, Dr. Matthew Talbot, Charlotte sets out to uncover the truth and find a way out of her engagement.
I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic between Charlotte and Matthew and the many plot twists and turns throughout the story. The romance is sweet and endearing, and I particularly liked the historical context provided by the author. The Georgian era setting and unique characters added depth to the narrative and kept me engaged from start to finish.
While I did encounter some technical issues with the audiobook, such as chapters cutting off prematurely, I was still able to enjoy the narration. I found Katy Sobey's performance to be engaging and immersive. Overall, “Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man” is a charming and entertaining read that I recommend to fans of historical romance and mystery.

This was really cute and I loved the story line and the side characters.

I hope there are more books in this series because I would love to read stories for Hannah, Sophia and Alexander.

I did a hybrid read and I also loved the narrator of the audiobook.

Steam: It was a closed door/kissing only

Thank you Forever for the review copy. This is my honest opinion.

Set in London prior to the war with the colonies (America) this fast paced novel follows Charlotte who is seeking a way of proving that her soon to be finace is NOT a man that she should be marrying. With the assistance of her cousins, her twin brother, and her brother's best friend, she sets out to do just that.

This has dual POV, funny animal sidekicks, a little bit of piracy, plenty of steam (no on page sex), lots of commentary on the ridiculous fashion of the time period, a strong willed FMC, a MMC who is way more than just a doctor and naturalist, and an unlikely love story.

I loved listening to the audio, Katey Sobey does a fantastic job with the different characters and bringing Charlotte and Matthew to life.

This is really cute and easy read, and sets up for a sequel but no cliffhangers. The characters span the classes, and there is interesting distinctions made about the differences between the characters (even with those within the same class).

Recommend for those who want a historical romance that isn't regency.

Thank you to Forever Publishing & Hachette Audio for my review copies!

I am deep into my historical romance era, and have been loving these historical romances with a touch of mystery!

Lady Charlotte is sick of her parent’s plans for her life, especially when they announce her imminent engagement to the Viscount Hawley, who has already been widowed twice under mysterious circumstances. In order to get out from under her parent’s thumb, she decides to go into business with her cousins. Together, they expand the cousins’ coffee house to allow women and men to mix.

I absolutely loved the salons and coffee houses, and this culture of conversations! It added some gravity to a story that was often over the top and humorous. The cousins have a pet parrot, of course, since they are descended from pirates.

Dr. Matthew Talbot, best friend of Lady Charlotte’s twin brother and younger brother to Viscount Hawley, is the love interest and I absolutely adored him. He is stern and spends most of his time traveling and studying nature and medicine.

I felt like the plot moved fast and there was a lot going on, and I absolutely could not put it down. I love when the lovers have something big to work on, that gives them something to do while they get to know each other. The animals provided some levity, making it feel like a cozier romance/mystery than it otherwise could have.

I really enjoyed this one and would love to see this turned into a series!

🎧 Narrator Katy Soby does an excellent job bringing these characters to life, and I definitely recommend the audiobook!

This was such a breath of fresh air! A good palate cleanser in between books dealing with heavier topics. I loved the narrator's voice, the witty banter, the historical details and the swoonworthy romance. Thank you Netgalley for this hidden gem of an ARC!

I couldn’t listen to the audio because it was corrupt and cut off the chapters partway through. I reached out to ask for a fixed version since this was archived and had no response so…

What a fun read! Lady Charlotte is not just a historical romance as it might first seem - it’s a genre bending romp that that includes arranged marriage, murder, pirates, found family, and true love. I really had no idea I was in for but enjoyed it so much. Here’s what I liked:

- Lady Charlotte is a badass. The primary storyline focuses on thwarting her betrothal to a homicidal psychopath, which she takes the lead on. She’s fierce but feminine, willing to put her trust in a good man but never rely solely on him. And of course, in the end, she gets her man.
- There’s a diverse cast of secondary characters that bring depth to the story. Charlotte’s mixed race cousin is portrayed as an intellectual and savvy businesswoman, despite being shunned by high society for her parentage. There’s a gang of pirates (or pretend pirates?) that offer Charlotte advice. And we can’t forget the talking parrot, whose antics bring the perfect dose of comedic relief.
- The author’s note discussing the historical accuracy of the plot and any liberties she took (not many!) was so helpful. I sometimes struggle with historical romances, not knowing how realistic a plot point is or if the author ignored a major anachronism to advance a plot point, so having this author’s note brought the closure and confirmation I needed to enjoy the book.

Audio: I thought the narrator did a fine job bringing the story to life. I especially like her accents/voices for all the different characters - I could tell the difference in two characters’ social classes just by her voice. Given the many voices, I would LOVE to listen to this with a full cast production - it would really elevate the experience - but it’s solid as is.

This audiobook was witty, compelling, swoon-worthy, and just downright captivated me from the very first chapter!

While I loved the premise of the story and was grateful to receive the audiobook, the audio files were corrupt. The chapters ended mid-sentence and I missed out on half the story. I reached out to the publisher and was told the issue was fixed but the audiobook was removed from this platform and I can no longer redownload it. I luckily have the eARC and will continue my journey there.

Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man is a cute cozy romantic mystery by award winning author, Violet Marsh. In this novel, Lady Charlotte, who has been brought up in elite society, learns that she will soon be betrothed to Viscount Hawley Talbot. Unfortunately, Charlotte and others suspect that Hawley murdered his two previous wives and she doesn’t want to be the third. Charlotte has known Hawley’s brother, Matthew, for years, and falls in love with him; he is a physician and not recognized in her social world. Charlotte isn’t afraid to break society’s rules, and works hard to prove Hawley has committed crimes as well as murder before her father insists she marry him. Matthew and some cousins help Charlotte with the case.

The storyline is cute; there are several characters that are interesting. Marsh does a good job of developing them so that readers can relate. Marsh has done her research as to the rules of society at the time and location that this historical novel takes place. It is charming, and if readers are lucky enough to listen to the audible version, they will be delighted by the narration since the narrator has a perfect English accent.

The novel is light, fun, and goes quickly to the dénouement. There are plenty of twists and turns, and Charlotte turns out to be one who isn’t afraid to break the strict rules of her societal world.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
