I have the previous book by the same author - The Montessori Toddler which has been sitting on my shelf and it's not that I don't want to read it, I really do as my kid is 2 years old now and being a FTM I wanted to learn as much as I could before I had a kid but alas, I couldn't manage that.

But it's never too late to learn how to do the right thing, even when it comes to parenting. Or better yet especially when it comes to parenting.

The Montessori child deals with all the Montessori methods with enough examples and the narrator has done the best job possible by narrating in a clear and rich voice. My only issue with this book is that it is too simplistic or very basic.

I can't be sure though as this is my first parenting book. I have read some parenthood books but not parenting books. Coz I did not really believe in that but I must say I was very wrong as Montessori child teaches far more than I could have imagined I will learn from a book.

I will definitely recommend it for every parent, guide, teacher out there so they can help the children around them in growing responsible adults.

Thank you Netgalley and Hachette audio for the wonderful ARC in exchange of an honest review.

The Montessori Child
A Parent's Guide to Raising Capable Children with Creative Minds and Compassionate Hearts
by Simone Davies; Junnifa Uzodike
(Narrated by Robin Miles)

Montessori Is a huge trend recently. As a mother of a 1 year old beautiful daughter, I’m always interested in parenting tool book. This book is very different from others, which I think all the parents should read.

The content is well researched and easy to understand. Nothing complicated. The book is truly enjoyable in various ways. The narrator presented the book very well, not a dull and boring style.

If you can only get a Montessori book, this is the one to read.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my copy.

I listened to an audio arc of this book and this is my honest review.

The narrator was amazing. She delivered everything in a way that was clear and easy to understand.

My daughter goes to a Montessori school, and I’ve been so happy with their teachings and learning styles.

This book was amazing at helping incorporate those Montessori ways into our home life.

It’s the only parenting book I’ve ever read, but found it fascinating and educational.

I enjoyed this book a lot, as it has some great ideas for raising children with a Montessori approach. I especially enjoyed learning about how Maria Montessori viewed children’s development as going until the age of 24. She was clearly ahead of her time considering we’ve only recently been able to show that brains continue to grow until around this age. I was also interested in learning about the different planes of development and the associated milestones of childhood.

Some critiques I have for this book is that it obviously expands upon Maria Montessori’s approach in integrating modern issues (racism, microaggressions, etc.). Although I have not read the first-hand works of Maria Montessori, this expansion is obviously something that could be argued would or would not actually be in-line with Montessori’s teachings. I also noticed there were a lot of references to some of the big parenting books (i.e. How to Talk So Kids Will Listen…, the many works of Daniel Siegel) and suggestions for how to talk to children. I found this to be a bit annoying, as again, it felt like it’s a bit of a stretch that Montessori would prescribe these exact ways to parent. I wasn’t looking to read a “how to parent” book (I’ve already read most of them), but more so how the Montessori method looks beyond the toddler years.

I do think that overall this book is a wonderful resource for parents and many will find it to be thorough in exploring what the Montessori method looks like with children 3-12.

The narration by Robin Miles was lovely. She has the perfect voice for a child-focused book as it is gentle and easy to understand. I felt like she was a perfect fit for this narration.

Thank you to Hachette Audio, Workman Publishing Company, and NetGalley for an ALC of this audiobook!

A great guide to providing a Montessori environment at home for a 3-12 year old child (often split between the earlier years and 6-12). It doesn’t tell you to turn your home into a Montessori classroom, but rather talks about how to discuss things like equality be equity, how to promote opportunities for collaboration and leadership, and how to promote day-to-day reading. It’s dry, but educational!

Thanks, NetGalley and Hachette, for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
