This was a great story! I really liked the characters, and the mystery was unexpected and a wild ride! Once I got to the halfway point, I could not put it down. Highly recommend!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book really kept me on my toes. I loved every twist and turn that came (even though it typically meant some one was going to die!). Though I solved the whodunnit pretty quick, I really loved seeing the big picture come together. There were some aspects of the whole laundering/artifact issue that I didn't see coming, and that's what made it a great read.
ALSO...... an already married couple (well, sort of). I loved, loved, loved this aspect of the story. Yes they were separated, but I enjoyed seeing them come back together. Hez had many a fault, but he changed. And while it took Savannah awhile to see that, I thought it was nice to see that she still had emotions when seeing him. She still needed him and went to him. I think we need more of this honestly in our books - couples that have struggles (whatever they are), who work on them. And yes, it takes WORK, but anything worth something in life does take work.
I'm excited for the next book in this series to come out! Acker and Coble certainly make a great team. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow! If Colleen Coble authors/co-authors the book, I read it. Have never been disappointed. This book grabs you from the beginning and I literally didn’t want to put it down. Fantastic plot lines keep you reading and trying to discover whodunnit. I highly recommend this book and eagerly anticipate the sequel.

When tragedy tears their family apart, Sarah and Hez Webster, go their separate ways. He dives into the bottle and she returns to Tupelo Grove University founded by her family over a century earlier.
Then one day, Hez shows up in her classroom, looking for a second chance. Sarah’s immediate reaction is to refuse, but within a day she’s under suspicion of murder and since he’s the very best lawyer Sarah knows, she can use her husband’s legal expertise.
As they investigate, buried secrets come to the surface. Is the murder tied to the someone who is selling off the university’s pre-Columbian artifacts? Their only chance is to work together on proving Sarah’s innocence and staying alive long enough to accomplish that.
The authors have created a community with plenty of suspects, some twists and turns and a satisfying ending. I look forward to the next instalment of the Tupelo Grove series.

Savannah, a teacher/researcher at a small college, is trying to rebuild her life after the death of her daughter. She blames her ex-husband, Hez, an attorney, for her daughter's death, since he was supposed to be watching her when she fell into the pool. She is reluctant to trust him again, but when there is a murder at the college , some old artifacts go missing, and she may be charged with the murder, Hez is her best option for help. Besides the mystery, the novel deals with the difficulty of handling the death of a child, the possibility for forgiveness, and difficult relationships with sisters. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc without pressure for a positive review.

A twisty tale that saves the best twist for the end. The heroine is a history professor at a university that her family has been deeply involved with— but she is also going through the deep pain of a divorce. Then she stumbles on a body and needs the help of her husband to figure out what happened. A race of events starts, laced with danger, twists and turns.

What a good book!! This book hooked me from the first chapter! It was completely unputdownable! There was so much suspense along with twists and turns. The collaboration of these two authors was awesome!

A good tale.
I loved that Savannah taught history, I was t thrilled at the prospect of the university going under because that is actually a sad reality in today’s world.
The jury is still out on Hez for me. Yes, he did the work and atoned for his sins but I would always fear a relapse when the thought get going and then the inevitable fall out.

This was a great book. I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I read it in 12 hours, which is a lot for me to do! It had everything and more laid out in the novel! I sure hope There is more to come from this author! I am totally hooked!

Colleen Coble is a marvelous writer who has the ability to bring in deep emotions onto the page inspite of her short and succinct style of prose. Hence, I was intrigued when I saw that she has co-authored a book with another writer Rick Acker, leading me to decide to read the book. And I am extremely glad I chose to do so.
"What We Hide" is an intriguing mystery-thriller featuring the story of Savannah Webster and her husband Hez. They have been separated for a couple of years due to a personal tragedy, which both of them have not gotten over completely. Savannah, who is currently working as an assistant professor in the Tupelo Grove University, comes across a mystery file, raising the concern that the artifacts that belong to the college are being sold illegally. With her sister going through her own problems with respect to the college, and having caught up in a murder investigation, Savannah enlists the help of her husband Hez to help her with finding the murderer and the smuggler.
The story moves in a brisk pace, with the readers getting to know crucial information only at interesting junctures, and the reveal at the end of book knocks it out of the park. The mystery element of the story is fairly gripping, but what held my interest throughout is the emotional roller-coaster both Savannah and Hez go through, which serves to bring them closer together. The undercurrent between them is so palpable and serves as the main reason a reader connects with the story. One can't help but feel sorry for the both of them.
The mystery element initially felt so trivial and very redundant. But the final twist in the climax elevates the story to a higher level and makes the reader want to read the next book as well.
According to Coble, she and Rick Acker wrote separate scenes but still their styles of writing are so similar that the story travels seamlessly with no visible difference. I absolutely enjoyed this gripping thriller and can't wait to know what happens next in Savannah and Hez's lives.

This book could be made into a movie and I would so watch it. There was so much going on and you could easily think it was any of the characters who were creating the twists in this book. I loved reading it and just thoroughly enjoyed how intriguing the plot was.
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson Fiction and author Colleen Coble for this gift copy in exchange for an honest review.

What We Hide by Colleen Coble and Rick Acker is a fast-paced, suspenseful novel that blends mystery, romance, and intrigue. Savannah Webster is trying to rebuild her life after the devastation of a troubled marriage and a tragic event that sent her husband, Hez, down a path of alcoholism. Returning to her roots as a history professor at Tupelo Grove University, Savannah has settled into a new chapter—until Hez unexpectedly shows up in her classroom, asking for a second chance.
Savannah quickly rejects the idea, but her world is turned upside down when she is suddenly accused of murder. With the authorities investigating the death of a university insider who may have been involved in illegal dealings with pre-Columbian artifacts, Savannah has no choice but to turn to Hez—now a seasoned attorney—despite their fractured relationship. As the two of them dig deeper into the mystery, they uncover secrets that run far deeper than they ever imagined, and their past wounds might not be the only things threatening to tear them apart.
Coble and Acker craft a gripping tale that explores themes of trust, forgiveness, and redemption, all while keeping readers on the edge of their seats with twists and turns. The evolving relationship between Savannah and Hez adds emotional depth to the fast-paced thriller, and the university’s historical backdrop provides a rich, atmospheric setting for the unraveling mystery. What We Hide is an engaging, well-written novel that will appeal to fans of romantic suspense and those who enjoy a strong mystery mixed with emotional stakes.

What We Hide, published by Thomas Nelson, is a romantic, suspenseful story. After suffering a tragic loss, Savannah and Hez make plans for divorce. Before it is even able to go through, they find themselves in the middle of a dangerous smuggling ring....which forces them to work together.
I liked that it was a clean romance with scripture references...including the passage about where your treasure is there your heart will be also. I like that the verse was used as an engraving on a tombstone...signifying their great loss.
I thought that the story could have been shortened drastically...although the ending was a surprise.
Thank you Net Galley and Thomas Nelson Publishers for this ARC that I rea 6 months after the book came out.

What We Hide by @colleencoble
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have liked all of Colleen Coble’s novels that I have read so far and this was no exception. I love clean reads - and the added bit of “not too scary” suspense/mystery in this novel was perfect. I requested and received the ARC of this one on @netgalley last year but when my life uprooted, so did my ability to focus on a book. I was able to listen to the audiobook on Hoopla and it was great! Looking forward to reading the sequel to this Tupelo Grove novel that comes out later this year.
All opinions are honest and my own.

I was really riding high on this twisty story, despite some dubious character choices (lots of shady side characters) until late in the story, when the plot balance trotted itself sideways and a layered plot twist contradicted something that had been expressed earlier in the story, and subsequently a lead character made a very dumb personal choice <spoiler> Hez decides the divorce going through means it’s okay to take a step back on pursuing reconciliation with his wife, which is dumb because they are clearly meant to be together! </spoiler> so the whole story ends on a downer and Twilight-zone type ending, complete with a cliffhanger.
I will definitely read the next book, but much more cautiously since I felt like the character and plot were ripped out from under me at the end like a thin rug. At least Savannah was consistent and enjoyable throughout.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

This is a wonderful read that will keep you turning the pages. It's full of drama, suspense, action, secrets that are brought to light, and a sweet second chance romance. I loved it and highly recommend this book.
I received a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson Fiction via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

An absolute page turner! The mystery is captivating and the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat. The dynamic between Savannah and Hez adds a heartfelt element to the story, making their journey towards reconciliation both touching and believable. There are unexpected twists and turns that will leave you guessing.
Many thanks to Thomas Nelson Fiction and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

What We Hide is the first book in a new series by Colleen Coble and Rick Acker.

Now sober for two years he asks for a second chance. Savannah teaches at a university. She discovers the body of a co-worker and may be accused of the crime. She turns to Hez for help. There are lots of twists and turns in the story.
This is a wonderful collaboration between Colleen coble and Rick Acker. The story is well written with wonderful characters. The last chapter is a bit of a cliff hanger which will leave the reader wanting to read the next book in the series.

This was a great read! I was pulled in from the start and really enjoyed it. The plot was well written and not hard to follow. The characters were well developed for the story. There is enough going on to keep those pages turning. And that twist!!
Well done, authors! I don't know why Iwaited so long to read it.
Thanks to the publishers for an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved it!

This is one of the most beautifully written suspenseful book I have read this year.
The twists and turns of the book was exhilarating. The way the events of the book turned out was totally unexpected.
Hez and Savvanah were an indomitable force despite theor differences. I enjoyed seeing how it all turned out for them. Forgiveness is very powerful and their lives illustrated it so well.
Highly recommended.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
