I no longer have access to this book and do not anticipate seeking it out to read it at this time. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

This book was a little sadder than I usually go for, but I’m glad I stuck with it because I very much enjoyed it! Lucy’s martyr tendencies did grow a bit old, but I loved how Ethan supported her through it all.

I usually have no problems with Kristan Higgins' books and have often enjoyed the quirky humor and character development in her stories. This time, the humor was there as well as all the other elements I've come to expect from her, but the character development was non-existent. At least when it pertained to Lucy. We met her as a grieving widow and for at least 85 - 90% of the book, she was still in her grieving period. So I'm to believe that she magically got over ALL her issues and decided to give this romance a chance. NOPE, not happening.

And the thing that frustrated me the most is that I loved Ethan and that man was loyal . She wasn't necessarily cruel with him, but he definitely deserved better much of the time.

This time around I didn't enjoy myself as much as in the first book, mainly because I most of the time I wanted to shake some sense into Lucy. Unfortunately I didn't become invested in the romance and just skimmed through the chapters until I got to the end. I'm glad Ethan got his HEA, I just don't buy Lucy's intentions.

All in all, not the story for me

Unfortunately. I was unable to finish this book and have to put it on my DNR list.
I was unable to connect with the character and therefore unable to get invested in this story.
I hope in the future I might try to revisit this series.

Sweet read but not for me. Just couldn't warm to the characters or the plot much. But everyone else loved it!

Awww. Dang. This was adorable. Kristan Higgins does it again with THE NEXT BEST THING. The story was just as cute and heartwarming as the summary made it sound. If you're looking for a good romance with substance, look no farther than this book. Excellent read.
