This was a really solid read!! Right after finishing I’d give it about a 3.5 but closer to 3, but that could go up for sure.
The characters in this felt really clear to me (except a couple of Robbie’s friends — so many boys), which always makes the story fly by. Was the ending a bit predictable? Sure, but it was definitely a great typical YA thriller!

Lauren's starting a new school, far away from her old life to escape the tragedy that's haunting her. However, she quickly learns that things aren't quite smooth sailing at her new school either. Lauren is hooking up with the prime suspect of the latest murder and decides to either expose or exonerate him, depends where the evidence lies.

The One That Got Away With Murder does a fantastic job of creating a sense of unease throughout the whole story, where readers are forced to question everyone's motives. Helen Laser and Joshua Quinn are amazing narrators who bring the characters to life.

Audiobook version, excellent narration. I was drawn in from the very beginning, and found it hard to put down this who done it mystery. This was a well organized plot, with well developed characters that kept you wanting to figure out who the killer was. And yes it had some clever twists in it too. All of the questions were answered in the end, making the finish satisfying and worthy of this positive review. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this early audiobook copy.

This book is easily one of my favorites this year! If you liked books like "One Of Us Is Lying" or the Netflix series "13 Reasons Why", then this book is for you!

In "The One That Got Away With Murder," Trish Lundy crafts a gripping tale of secrets, betrayal, and murder set against the backdrop of a small town. The story centers around Robbie and Lauren, two individuals with haunting pasts that they are desperate to keep hidden.

The mystery surrounding the death of Robbie's girlfriend and the secrets that everyone is hiding creates a palpable sense of unease. As the plot unfolds, I was drawn deeper into the web of deception and must keep guessing until the shocking revelation of the true killer.

The characters in the novel are well-developed and complex. Robbie and Lauren, in particular, are intriguing and flawed in ways that make them feel real. Their pasts and motivations drive the action and keep the reader engaged. The supporting characters also play significant roles and add depth to the story.

One of the strengths of Lundy's writing is her ability to evoke atmosphere. The small town setting is described in such a way that it becomes a character in itself, contributing to the overall mood of suspense and foreboding.ng that nothing was as it seems. Ultimately towards the end I knew who the culprit was and I just was anxious to see just how they would find out.

I listened to the audiobook of this one and I liked the narrator (even if the character who narrated most of the book was a horrible decision maker). This was a pretty good debut and while I expected a bit more of a thriller from the description the small town mystery was well written with good red herrings and some nice twists. After Lauren made some monumentally poor choices her life in California had fallen apart so she and her mother mother moved to small town Happy Valley where Lauren’s mom’s new boyfriend lived. Lauren is on her new soccer team and feels like things are finally starting to get her. When the team discovers she is talking to Robbie, they make sure she knows that both of the brother’s girlfriends died mysteriously and it is believed that the boys are guilty even though no charges were ever brought against the boys. Lauren is desperate for one more weekend to feel normal and goes with Robbie and his family to their lake house for a weekend. Everything changes when she finds evidence of Robbie’s girlfriend Victoria’s last moments and she is desperate to find out who it was. I can’t say Lauren is a natural investigator but I did like her gumption and persistence. I liked this story and will keep an eye out for more from this author.

This was a gripping YA mystery that follows Lauren as she moves to a new high school her senior year, and falls into a mystery and possibly the wrong crowd. As far as the plot goes, it was really well done, with so many twists that I didn’t see coming. I was shocked at the ending, and that’s rare and unexpected. It would have been rated higher if the characters were a bit more dynamic. And I know high schoolers do some rough stuff, but this was kind of over-the-top and some of their actions were not very teenage-ish so it took away from the believability at times. Still, overall definitely 4 stars for the mystery! I listened to the audiobook version and it made for a very quick listen. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

I don’t know what it is about books like this, but man do they draw me in quick! I finished this book pretty quickly and I didn’t want to stop listening to it. The narrators, Helen Laser and Joshua Quinn keep you engaged with their tone of voice and their presentation of the reading.

Lauren is the new girl in town about to go into her senior year. She moved from California to Pennsylvania with her mom after a horrible accident happened with her ex. In her new town, she is on the soccer team and secretly sees this guy named Robbie. She had no clue how this one thing was about to change her life again.

Robbie comes from a family that has money. His dad is an attorney well-known in their town. Robbie is also well known in his town, but not for good reasons. His ex-girlfriend had drowned at his family's lake house and everyone in the town accused him. His little brother Trevor also lost his girlfriend to an overdose. This family doesn’t seem to have the best track record.

As you move through the book, a lot of secrets get unfolded and brought to the surface. Lauren starts to suspect everyone for different reasons. As the story unfolds, the person who is the actual murderer doesn’t surprise me. I thought the book was well written. It kept you engaged and gave you just enough suspense and curiosity to keep you wanting more!

Thank you, NetGalley, for allowing me to review this book! Thank you, Tish Lindy, for writing this book. It was so engaging and kept me wanting more! Thank you, Macmillan Audio, for producing this audiobook!

Thank you so much to Macmillan Audio for the advance copy of this book!

What a stellar debut for Trish Lundy!

This book had everything you could want in a YA Thriller. There was a smidge of romance, complicated friendship and of course death.
There were a lot of characters in this which did find the beginning hard to keep track of but as you go on in the book it came easier to track.

Lauren herself has her own secrets which we got tidbits about throughout the book until the reveal happens. I felt bad for her at times as she made this big change from moving across the country, her mom is in this new relationship and is just trying to survive being a teenager. As a new student in the school, somehow Lauren gets wrapped up in trying to figure out the mystery of who killed a student at her school. And it all came back to a boy she met and started hooking up with because the rumor has it that, "Every girl the Crestmonts date winds up dead."

Majority of the characters were unreliable so that made the journey of the story very fun. I thought the pacing of the book was pretty good and kept moving. I don't want to give away all that happens in this book but I will say I was not completely surprised by the revelations at the end and I wish I could say why it didn't surprise me but what fun would that be!

I thought the narrators Helen Laser and Joshua Quinn did a great job with their characters! Helen was excellent as Lauren and brought her vulnerability and youthfulness to the character. Joshua Quinn had such a menacing tone which was perfect for his character.

I do recommend giving this one a read! It was an addicting story & I'm looking forward to reading the author's future work.

PS - As a Pennsylvanian who lives around 3 hours away from Penn State, I absolutely love that this took place in Happy Valley!

Helen Laser was great. Joshua Quinn’s voice was a bit creepy, perfect for the character he was reading for.

The story was good. I thought the bad person was easy to pick and then it was someone else, so yay for the little surprise.

Great small town mystery with excellent twists. New girl in town escaping from her troubled past and looking for a fresh start. She gets involved with the wrong people and finds herself at great risk while trying to find out the truth from rumours all while running from her own dark past.
Narrated by Helen Laser and Joshua Quinn both outstanding and I will be looking for more books read by this team.

I feel like I took this journey along with the character in trying to figure out who killed two high school girls who dated the Crestmont boys, two wealthy brothers.

Lauren has a troubled past of her own, but she’s trying for fresh start across the country. Spending her senior year as the new kid isn’t going as well as she thought.

This book was incredibly twisty, and I found myself trying to solve the mystery along with Lauren. Every person I suspected, she eventually suspected, and we knocked out the clues together. Loved the fast pace.

🔥📚 Unbelievable debut alert! Trish Lundy's 'The One That Got Away With Murder' had me hooked from page one. It's been two days since I finished, and I'm still reeling! This was a little too overdramatic and young adult-y for my tastes. While it wasn't for me I would recommend it for fans of shows like Pretty Little Liars and books full of secrets, lies and revenge set in the drama-filled world of mean girl high school cliques. Good narration as an audiobook too. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early audio copy by a new to me author in exchange for my honest review!

Be careful who you fall for...
Robbie and Trevor Cresmont have a body count—the killer kind. Handsome and privileged, the Crestmont brothers have enough wealth to ensure they’ll never be found guilty of any wrongdoing, even if all of Happy Valley believes they're behind the deaths of their ex-girlfriends. First there was soccer star Victoria Moreno, Robbie’s ex, who mysteriously drowned at the family lake house. Then, a year later, Trevor’s girlfriend died of a suspicious overdose.
But the Crestmonts aren’t the only ones with secrets. Lauren O'Brian might be the new girl at school, but she's never been a good girl. With a dark past of her own, she's desperate for a fresh start. Except when she starts a no-strings-attached relationship with Robbie, her chance is put in jeopardy. During what’s meant to be their last weekend together, Lauren stumbles across shocking evidence that just might implicate Robbie.
With danger closing in, Lauren doesn't know who to trust. And after a third death rocks the town, she must decide whether to end things with Robbie or risk becoming another cautionary tale.

The One That Got Away with Murder read like a combination of a McManus book and an episode of Pretty Little Liars. I loved it! I always love a YA whodunnit, and this one was pretty riveting. There were lots of red herrings, which I thought were fun as the puzzle was being pieced together. Lauren's backstory was imparted in a really meaningful way, and she was easy to root for as an underdog. I thought the author did a great job of balancing the current issues with her backstory in a way that didn't confuse the reader.

From Cali to Happy Valley, Lauren’s mom moves her cross country to start her senior year of high school. Her mom’s new boyfriend doesn’t seem that bad. Except that he’s always there. Always. And then there’s Robbie. A boy that gives her an escape from her own struggles. Her teammates warn her against her new hookup.

Then school starts and a significant character doesn’t survive the pep rally. Was it self inflicted? Accidental? Or was it murder?

What follows is a wild ride that just about gave me whiplash. Be it good or bad, it felt like it was genuinely how a teenager would solve a crime.

If you are a fan of AGGGTM, you will likely enjoy this book. I think this was a great debut novel. The narrator’s of the audiobook did a nice job.
