I will say the first part of this book was hard for me to get into, but I did enjoy it a bit more after I hit the halfway point. It definitely had some different elements that made it interesting and that cliffhanger at the end has me wanting to know what happens next!

Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake for the chance to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

While I feel like this story has a lot of potential, it fell flat for me. It was very all over the place and confusing. The writing also threw me off. Fun read though!

The book started off strong, the middle was so so and the ending was great. Expected the ending, however, excited to read about Aileen’s next adventure within the vampire leagues. Spicy and dark without having to describe much of the ugly.

Aileen is a girl who has a mysterious (and dark) past. Aileen lived a normal 'boring' everyday life until that suddenly changed one day. She encounters a vampire, gets an imprint and becomes a vampire against her own will. That was the moment where she swore to herself that she would get revenge on the Ragnor Rayne who gave her an imprint.
What she doesn't know is that Ragnor Rayne is someone who is a powerful person. When she finds out that her future is uncertain as a vampire because of the action, her passion to get revenge on Ragnor Rayne only intensifies.

➳ I honestly liked this book. At first, I found the plot confusing and I had mixed feelings about the book. But after pushing through the first 6 chapters, it slowly but surely became more interesting for me. It got to a point where I just couldn't put the book down. The writing in the beginning can feel like it's a story which came from Wattpad. But for me it wasn't a problem and I genuinely enjoyed reading the book. Normally it takes me a few days up to a few weeks to finish a book but I read this one in 2 days. I found it an entertaining and a fun read

➳ I liked it how Aileen's character developed throughout the book. Another thing which I loved about the book was Ragnor Rayne. He slowly started to open up and express his emotions towards Aileen. I absolutely LOVED the tension between the FMC and MMC

➳ The cliffhanger was something which I totally DIDN'T expect. I will definitely read the next book when it comes out.

Omg I’m obsessed. This book was so good. I enjoyed every second of it and can’t wait to read the sequel!!

Cloak of the Vampire is one of the most thrilling and addictive books I’ve read in a while! Going in with no expectations, I literally couldn’t stop thinking about it (still thinking about it the day after finishing).
The world building is amazing, with such an imaginative concept and story, it really isn’t just another vampire book. The characters have great depth, the background stories are fascinating, while the chemistry and interactions are spot on. It is quite a cruel read however, that does add to the intensity. Well written, fast paced and never boring.
I don’t know how I can wait for the sequel, for me this is a stand out series!

Cloak of the Vampire is a deliciously spicy by the author of The Millennium Wolves.

Aileen gets caught up in the world of vampires in a not so wise attempt to save her friend. Thrown head first into the politics, mysteries and danger of this new world, Aileen must pover her self worthy before the vampire auction.
Despite all this she manages to catch the eye of her maker the vampire Lord Ragor, who is keeping some pressure big secrets, but none as big as Aileens own secrets.

I throughly enjoyed this book, both world building and character development are on point. I only have two silly issues and honestly these were just things that irked me and have no real baring on the story. First the author talks about the FMC walking about in just tights and a t- shirt , I can only assume they mean leggings as in the uk tights are pantyhose. Unless she is just walking about in them... the other is how often Ragnors outfits or should I say outfit is described, he wears the same thing all the time and the author tell us what he is wearing like 10 separate times....why?

Anyhoo excellent story can't wait for book 2

Firstly, thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this ARC to give an honest review.

I’m not going to lie I was a bit intimidated by the trigger warnings of this book but they were actually very fair and everything was very tasteful. The book, refreshingly, wasn’t smut over plot substance!

At first I wasn’t sure about this book, this is because the characters supposed best friend is insufferable. However, when you push through those first 5 chapters or so you realise it’s secondary to the real plot.

I really liked that this book had a dual POV but it wasn’t present from the start. It felt like it came at the right points in the story to further the readers experience. Utilising it later on gave you time to connect to the FMC, to route for her, and better understand her emotions. It was also refreshing to have a FMC who wasn’t suddenly all powerful.

The hierarchy and world system of this book was really well explained by the early academia elements. Always giving enough information for the reader to follow the plot without giving too much away before major plot points.

I honestly devoured this book in a day and can’t wait for the next one. The ending really set up for book 2.

It starts slow but is fairly quick to read even though the book itself isn’t super short. Gives kind of Wattpad/YA feel in terms of writing and could probably use another read. The ending is pretty and will have you waiting eagerly for the next book.

I would recommend looking at trigger warnings before reading. It isn’t super graphic but there are things in here that could upset people.

3.5 Rounded to 4 Stars

This book does get off to a slow start but I did pursue and I’m glad I did. It definitely gets better around the half way mark. After that I really enjoyed the book. At points I found myself hooked and couldn’t stop reading to see what happened next.
I really enjoyed this unique world building.
I found how the Vampires are created to be unique and loved learning how they could have special talents too.
The story follows Aileen who is our main character but I found her hard to like at first until you learn about her past and why she is like she is. Aileen is shrouded in mystery and her Lord struggles to find out what she is hiding.
I actually felt sorry for her with how one of her only friends Cassidy Treated her. Aileen had no choice in being turned but her friend had been on a waitlist and knew all about it. You soon learn that Cassidy wasn’t as good a friend as you thought.
Aileen’s relationship with Ragnor Rayne her Lord is really complicated as she didn’t sign up for being a vampire and he refuses to explain why he did what he did but the pull between the two is strong and it’s not long before they are sleeping together. This book does have plenty of spice to it!
I enjoyed reading his POV throughout the book too as it showed you a little more of him.
The auction is where new Vampires are auctioned off to the highest bidder, Aileen really struggles with this and ends up doing something she swore not to ever do again! But no spoilers as I don’t want to give away a main part of the plot.
The book does cover some dark themes and does a few trigger warnings. So please be aware before reading.

I’m really looking forward to the next book and seeing where it goes.

Aileen is a mysterious person with a past very well hidden. When she comes face with a vampire, shes given a imprint and becomes a vampire. Aileen plots revenge against Ragnor Rayne for making her immortal against her will.

With the intense amount of burning passion and intensity between them as they go through the journey in Rayne league. When its Time for the auction she feels betrayed but now it's time for his actions to pay, and she won't stop.

I honestly liked this book, it was interesting , found different elements in the book, I found Aileen to be closed off and hidden but as throughout the book we can find more about her.

Wish there was more clarity in the book, it kinda felt confusing in the beginning, but I got it in the end. 😅

Can't wait for the next part. ❤

This Book was definitely not what I was expecting. I read a lot of vampire stories and this definitely read way different. I enjoyed the new aspects of it.

Having the FMC focus so much on her terrible friend made me soo mad at times.

While the book is not particularly short it's a quick read.

That Cliffhanger ending my God!

The only disappointment I get from reading ARCS is having to wait way too long for the next installment.

Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

"Aileen Henderson’s unassuming life conceals a dark past. Outside of work, she hides behind her larger-than-life best friend, Cassidy, whose constant need for attention suits Aileen—and her secrets—just fine.

Until the night Aileen dies.

Awakening to a new world of brutality, bloodlust, and betrayal, Aileen plots revenge against Ragnor Rayne, the monster who cursed her with the Imprint. The demon who turned her into a vampire. The man whose eyes haunt her dreams.

She is going to make this vampire Lord regret the day he kissed her with the curse of immortality and made her his. If she can survive the Auction, and resist temptations of the flesh…"

I was drawn to it based on the description. It took me a little bit getting into it, but the more I read, the more I find it enjoyable.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Vampires, enemies to lovers, secret societies

I was totally hooked by the cover of "Cloak of the Vampire" – I'm definitely the type who judges books by their covers. Sure, it took a bit to get going, and there was a ton of info to digest at first but once it got rolling, oh boy, did it pick up speed! This novel offers a refreshing twist on the vampire genre, and it was a great storyline with a few issues along the way.

So, we meet Aileen, who's basically just cruising through life until she gets turned into a vampire by Ragnor Rayne against her will. The narrative unfolds within what feels like a Hogwarts-like academy for freshly turned vampires. It may be dnf for others because the wriitng and general vibe does give wattpad and fanfinction vibes - but that being said, it was one of those quick and easy, fun reads if you are able to get past that.

If you're into Alyson Noel and Stephanie Meyer, you're probably going to enjoy it.

All you wanted was to be free but someone has taken choice away again. Aileen thought that she was free from her horrible childhood and that she could just be a nobody. But that all changes when she tries to help her friend. She wakes up as a vampire and she is so angry but will Raynor change her mind about her new life. To matter things worse the one person that she loved is also here and he hates her even more now. How will she find a way to escape? Raynor knew what he did was wrong but he couldn’t leave her there. But no matter how hard he tries she doesn’t let up. So they strike a deal to be lovers but that doesn’t change the fact that Aileen could be sold at the live auction.
Will he save her in time or will someone else leave her alone again?
A great read not for the faint hearted. Can’t wait for the next book as it is going to answer so many questions that I have about Aileen & her past.
Thank you Netgalley for the copy. This is my voluntary review.

3.5* Couldn't connect with the romance, but intriguing enough that I'm up for book 2.

Several things seem embellished about this book - 1) the female lead herself. We know there's some kind of deity connection in her past but we don't get to see her as a person, just as someone thinking with their libido. She's portrayed as having backbone and courage in the first few pages, but then the aforementioned kicks in and we dont get to see her personality. And just as the reveal comes, the book ends on a cliffhanger 2) the so-called friendship? Doesn't exist and neither the female lead nor the supposed friend seems bothered about it 3) the male lead? A pale version, no pun intended, of any number of vampire males from any number of vampire novels. BUT...there was potential.

I liked the world that the author was describing, so I think book 2 might be worth a read. I'm not sold on the romance, nor am I sold on people, which the made-vamps essentially still are, being sold at auction, again no puns intended, especially when some of the vampire clan leaders are autocrats and abusers.

Arc courtesy of Montlake and NetGalley, for my reading pleasure.

This book gets into the action within the first 5 chapters, which is nice. The world-building happens over time as you discover places the FMC has never been to before. A little more background so I would care more about what happens next would have been better in my opinion, but I can see why it was not done seeing what kind of relationship the FMC has with her friends.
The plot overall was good, the book was entertaining, although towards the end the back and forth between the FMC and her lover got a little annoying since it wasn’t going anywhere (in the sense of they didn’t get more angry/horny/*insert other feeling here* at each other, it felt a little stagnant.
I am a little confused about the FMC backstory: we learn about some of it but I didn’t understand all of it. There is mention of some gods and it feels like there’s a whole story there to dig into but it was barely touched on in this book. I feel like learning more about them during the book would have made the ending have more impact than it did.
Overall this was an entertaining read. The chapters are short and it reads like an adult wattpad fic. The spice is present but not the centre of attention. However it lacked some backstory about what I feel should be main elements of the book. This is a series but I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of it.

This book was a very quick read. It was written like an adult wattpad story. I have very mixed feelings on this book and sadly more negative than positive. To start with the positive. I enjoyed the kitchen crew. I liked the way it was a back and forth between the fml and the ml. It was interesting seeing their views and how their sexual relationship led to other things. It was very entertaining and once I started the book I couldn’t stop. Now the negative. The characters all sucked at more than one point. The fml was very annoying at times and hard to understand. We weren’t actually told much about her past with her dad and what happened exactly. There was a lot of context clues to let us know what happened. I do wish her past was explained more. Also I wanted her past with her ex boyfriend explained more because of the hospital scene. I thought a lot of the writing was childish and cringy. The sex scenes were not the best written and some felt a little rushed. I think this book left me with a lot of questions. I hope is explained in book 2. I will be reading book 2 cause I do enjoy seeing if things change in the second book.

Thank you NetGalley and Sapir England for early access to this book in exchange for my honest review.

I’m so torn. I can see where the book was leading and it could be a great story of hardship, revival, and love. I personally felt road blocked by some of the writing choices. That’s not to say someone else would. Someone else who’s read this book could think I’m stupid. Always give a book a try.

I absolutely for some reason could not get past the word noob being used as an insult. The word just rubbed me in the worst kind of way. Some of the dialogue didn’t work for me either. A lot of the times it felt awkward and unrealistic. Which for fantasy it’s not always realistic talking about vampires, I get that but almost all interactions between characters felt…off.

The first 50 pages moves quick. Almost too quick. You’re enjoying bar nightlife trying to get to know these characters and all of a sudden you’re pulled somewhere else, while still having little to no idea about what’s going on. You have beatings, club rats, horrible mean girl behaviors, then pushed into new world.
I just felt lost when reading this book and my opinion is only for the first 100 pages because I did unfortunately DNF this book.

Again, just because I didn’t enjoy it doesn’t mean someone else wouldn’t. Always give a book a try. I loved the idea of this, and could see where it was going but just couldn’t get into it.

What a story!

This is just so good!
This story is a mix of Vampire Academy and Hogwarts sans the magicians, but all about vampires and a bit of magic. There's tension, fight, and spice. It really gets hot.
The writing is fluid and makes it easy to follow the story and the emotions going on. Most chapters are written from Aileens point of view and only a handful from the vampire Lord Ragnor. This gives me a better understanding of how Ragnor acts and how he reacts to certain things.
I like the storyline and the twists. It's not otherworldly, but I could relate to it.
The protagonists go through an evolution that I can only relate to a point.
Aileen went through so much, and apparently, she's so mature, but on the other hand, she's not. It's understandable, but on a view of interactions, I just couldn't follow her.
Ragnor in the other hand is that mature and still acts on certain matters out of line, but then I might understand him, if the little bites we get of him are connected to his past that we haven't jet known fully.
I do understand a view things better by reading both POVs, but there are simply too many open questions that need answers, but a second book is in progress, so I only need to wait for them.

*Conclusion*
It's a different kind of love story with vampires with a lot of emotions going on. It's hot (spicy scens included).

About the book:
Aileen Henderson’s unassuming life conceals a dark past.

If she can survive thed resist temptations of the flesh…

*Infos*
This is book one of the series.

I've got an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. This has not changed my mind about the book.
