Good recipes and some interesting ideas for what to eat. Some weren't my taste and didn't look that great, but overall this seemed like a solid cookbook that I'd like to see a physical copy of to truly get a good feel of the book itself. 4 stars since it's not perfect, but still a good cookbook with lots of good options.

I was excited to review this title, I follow The Recipe Critic Blog and was excited to see she had a book out! The book is appropriately named as these are the "Tried & True". I made "The Best Swedish Meatballs, and thought they lived up to their title. This book has something for everyone, the recipes are easy to read and understand and the ingredients can be easily found in the grocery store. I loved the book!

I’ve been a fan of The Recipe Critics blog for years and this cookbook is such a fantastic representation of the recipes you’ll find there. I’m very excited to try some of these and will be adding this book to my physical cookbook collection.

Wow! What a fantastic cookbook! This book is filled with delicious recipes! They seem easy to make with step by step instructions! I love that there's pictures of the recipes! I'll definitely be trying most of the recipes in this book!!

I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from DK Penguin Random House via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a good cookbook for beginners. Seasoned cooks will recognize many of the recipes. It has a nice mix of basic recipes and more challenging ones.

I was so excited to review The Tried & True Cookbook! I’ve been in such a rut with daily dinners, I was really hoping to find some new ideas to mix things up a bit. This cookbook hit the mark and then some!

Every recipe is low-key, but looks delicious. Nothing looks overly complicated so they can appeal to beginners in the kitchen, but also to someone more experienced. There’s many traditional recipes like Pasta e Fagioli and Creamy Zuppa Tosacana (both of which I can’t wait to try!) and fun desserts like Strawberry Cheesecake Salad.

I can definitely see why this is called The Tried & True Cookbook! I could see myself reaching for this book often and making many of these recipes again and again.

Many thanks to NetGalley and DK for my ARC approval in exchange for my honest review!

As a busy FT working mom who prefers to eat and serve fresh, home-cooked meals, I am always looking for cookbooks that allow me to meet these food goals on a time crunch. As such, I'm a fan of books like Cook Once, Eat All Week. This book seemed right up my alley, as it states that it contains "quick and easy recipes for busy families."

Pros:
*Well organized
*Beautiful, detailed food photos
*Family-friendly meals that my kids will enjoy
*There are links for most recipes, which pull up the recipe individually on the author's blog. I will definitely be using her blog when I don't have access to the cookbook!

Cons:
*Many recipes are not quick, per my definition. Going through the dinner section, I saw several meals with total prep & cook time of 1.5 - 2+ hours. This is not going to be feasible when we get home and have less than an hour to prep and make a meal before sports, bedtime, etc. This may not be a big deal to some, but it is the most crucial thing I look for in a cookbook marketed like this one.
*Nutrition info not listed in cookbook, but it is available on the blog.

Tried & True Cookbook
Alyssa Rivers
If the terms, braise, chiffonade, ganache, hollandaise, immersion, infuse, julienne, marinate, meringue, poach, ribbon stage, roux, etc. send chills down your spine and cause you to grab your phone for takeout this cookbook is for you. Some of the best recipes are the ones that are simple and fast to make. Author Alyssa Rivers offers readers/cooks the perfect cookbook for all cooks no matter the level of your expertise. If you are looking for a cookbook with complicated, unique or unusual.
There are times when we want to create a gourmet meal but that’s usually a special occasion, a time when you have planned, shopped and prepared for the meal. That’s rare in most households. Who has time for a complicated meal that requires special tools/equipment, ingredients that are not in your cupboard, and instructions that are complicated.
Most people come home from work tired and looking for a meal that is quick, easy and tastes delicious. There are several small appliances that will help make mealtimes easy: air fryer, slow cooker, and an Instant Pot are suggestions. Pantry staples will also make mealtime simpler: herbs, spices, broth, tomatoes, flour, sugar, pasta, rice, oil, vinegar, soy sauce, vinegar, onions, garlic, potatoes, canned vegetables and suggestions. A list of cooking substitutes is invaluable. There are some really good recipes in this cookbook. Most recipes have a photograph. Many of the recipes involve a convenient processed product such as canned pie filling, canned soup, prepackaged instant Jello, and frozen whipped topping.

My favorite part of this cookbook is the list of items to keep on hand and the substitution list. I am constantly starting recipes and realizing that things are missing halfway through. The photos of the meals are extremely accurate and the recipes are easy to follow as well. There are links in the text that lead to some of the recipes online. This added a nice touch and I will be making more of these recipes soon. Thank you.

I love this cookbook! Alyssa makes navigating the kitchen a breeze. If you love baking/cooking or are a newbie this is for you. From crepes and German pancakes for breakfast (or dessert) to the chicken parm sandwiches and pot roast, which I'll be making next weekend, all recipes are approachable and easy to follow. There is also a huge variety of recipes so you won't get bored after making a couple of them, which personally is my experience with a lot of other cook books.

I received a copy of this eBook in exchange for a honest review from netgalley.

The pictures in this cookbook were mouthwatering! There are so many recipes I want to try, basics but with some twist thrown in. Mostly from scratch but easy to follow recipes that seem so simple but delicious.

This was an interesting book, I enjoyed the recipes and found this to be an easy to understand book. I’m excited to try some of these recipes. I appreciated that the author included more recipes than that which were already on her website. I also really liked that the author included a staple list of items in the kitchen for folks. That was really helpful. 4.5/5

An interesting assortment of recipes that really heavily leans on vintage housewife staples like a jello "salad", pimento cheese balls, and a "salad" that includes cool whip. Though the recipes are billed as "quick & easy" they are only able to be that way with the assumption that a lot of prep work is done ahead of time (like the perfect chicken soup where the chicken has already been cooked and shredded) or assuming that assembling homemade salad dressing well ahead of time has already been done.

Thank you DK and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this book. This is a nice collection of everyday, family-friendly recipes that are easy for any cook to make. The author has a cooking blog (which I knew nothing about prior to reading this book) and the majority of the recipes appear there as well. Even though the recipes in this book are not what my family would eat, I’m glad to have had an opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a great collection of recipes, simply put. In every single chapter, at least several jumped out to me as dishes to maybe try on near-future weeknights,, and I'm sure that even more will follow later with rereads.
