The Divorce Lawyer by Ellie Monago
Whew. The ending of this book was wild. I enjoy how Ellie tells a story. While I felt like this book had quite a bit of unnecessary filler, it was a well-built tower of cards.
The tech elements were intriguing and terrifying. I found the way the characters were fleshed out very interesting. The storyline flows, and there is just enough terror to keep readers glued to the page.
I loved the legal aspects, especially how redemption was portrayed. This brilliant story is about forgiveness, judgment, truth, and redemption.
The twist was well coordinated, and I did not see it coming until it was happening. Then, it was a free fall into chaos. Deliciously deceiving and uniquely choreographed, this novel will blow your mind.

I really, really enjoyed this up until the ending. I thought the ending was pretty lame to be honest. I was expecting a bit more out of it and felt it ended a little abruptly. The ending aside though, I really enjoyed the rest of the book leading up to it. I thought Ester was a fascinating character with a lot of depth and complex emotions. The arc her character took and the growth she accomplished was really pleasing to watch. I loved the game of cat & mouse between her and Peter and her anonymous stalkers. I also liked all of the twists and turns this took. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Divorce Lawyer focuses on Esther Khan a successful family lawyer, who represents women who need to get away from their husbands with their children. This book is told from her point of view and i was hopping it would focused a bit more on the legal procedures and fight, but it didn't. I felt it was quite predictable and i was a bit disappointed with it.

This was such a good book! It was so different than I expected! It had great character development. Would read again.

This book follows on from The Custody Battle and the main characters in that book are mentioned in this book. However, this seems to be a standalone.
Esther is a very good Family Lawyer and has just finalised Peter Tramboni’s latest divorce. Although she was blackmailed to do it, even though it is over, she is still being blackmailed.
This book wasn’t focused on the legal battle of the divorce which I was hoping, as I do like courtroom dramas, but it kept me interested enough to continue with the book.
I wouldn’t say I liked many of the characters, maybe the niece and sister, but not the main character or those that Esther mingled with.
Overall I liked the book, the twists were good, and it was well-written and flowed at a good pace.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my digital copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
I was very bored with this book. The writing was good, but I didn't like any of the characters and I couldn't relate to them.

Honestly, I think this book just wasn't for me. That's not saying it's not a good book, I did end up DNFing it. So, I can't truly say much about it.

Kitty is a divorce lawyer that takes the cases she deems good ones. That is until Peter blackmails her to take his divorce case and destroy his wife, Bianca so he gets full custody of his son. Not that he cares about him, he just needs to stick it to Bianca so he has all the power. Kitty defends him and feels gross the whole time. How can she say no though when he knows everything. She had to protect her secret at all costs.
This was a bit long winded at times and I think it could have been shorter. That being said, I still found myself wanting to know how it ended. I was definitely turning pages long after my bedtime.

The Divorce Lawyer is a must read! I thoroughly enjoyed the uniqueness of this plot! Well done Ellie Monago! This book delievered. This book was a roller coaster from beginning to end. I was rooting for Esther and her family the whole book. Thank you to Ellie Monago, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book prior to publishing.

The Divorce Lawyer focuses on Esther Khan a successful family lawyer, who represents women who need to get away from their husbands with their children. Peter Tamboni blackmails Esther to take him on as a client
Esther's past influences her choices as she tries to protect her sister and her family. Which is supposed to explain why she makes the decisions that she does, only for me it does not. Esther is a character that has virtually no personality. She is not likeable because there is nothing revealed that makes us care about her.
The book is told from Esther's point of view, which comes off as somewhat paranoid even after Peter Tamboni is murdered. Esther has a boyfriend or a sex partner. Their relationship is bizarre and awkward.
All in all, this book did not live up to the premise for me. Perhaps, it was because there was nothing to care about which makes it hard to write a review. Very disappointing.

Description sounded good but I couldnt get in to the story. Sorry but this one isnt for me.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read the ARC in return for an honest review

I gave this book 3.5 stars because by a certain point in this story, it became obvious who was committing these murders. The ending had me bewildered to say the least.
When a divorce attorney, Esther Kahn, who's known to only represent women and children is blackmailed into representing tech billionaire extraordinaire, Peter, against her will, she ruins a 4 year olds life. But after the custody is celebrated, Peter is mysteriously killed. Soon after the police and the woman he scorned in business years ago, Avery, is seeking Esther's friendship; against her will.
But then Avery is found dead and Esther realizes who the killer is.

If I had written my review after about 30% it would have been a five star but the book quickly dipped after the excellent start and I lost interest. There was also something off about the writing style. I can’t quite put my finger on what seemed wrong. It’s something about how the author jumps from a third person pov to actual conversations. I had to re-read passages to see what was grammatically incorrect and it’s beyond me but still seemed incorrect.
Characters very unlikeable and overuse of technology to help the plot along were more turn offs for me.

I really wanted to like this book as the premise sounded just what I like, but after a good start I found I was losing interest and at halfway through and still no idea what the point of the book was, I gave up.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

I struggled to get into this not sure if it is because I had not read this authors previous book.
The story was quite dark and depressing and I did not feel like I could engage with the characters It also included a lot of technological speak throughout so if you like gizmos and gadgets then you might enjoy it more than me.
I really wanted to enjoy it more after having read the blurb and being grilled by the title.

The Divorce Lawyer is a tension filled read that is full of twists and turns. As I read, I couldn’t decide if the FMC, Esther, was a protagonist or antagonist. If she was unhinged or delusional. If she was just misguided and acting out of love. The blurred lines for her character made the suspense and thrills more intense. The ending was one of several I predicted throughout reading this book, but the twist was in the details and it truly managed to shock me. I can’t wait to read more by this author!
I was excited to discover that this is Book 2 in a series and I can’t wait to go back and read Book 1, The Custody Battle. The Divorce Lawyer can, however, be read as a stand-alone with no issues.

I found this book to be a very slow burn. The beginning sucked me in right away, but I felt the middle dragged a bit. I did like the stalking aspect that added suspense, and I also enjoyed seeing Esther's relationship with her sister, niece, and nephew. However, I found most of the characters unlikeable, and it was hard to root for any of them. The ending was interesting and a surprise, but it didn't feel like a tidy wrap up to the story.

Family lawyer Esther usually represents women getting out of marriages to bad men and helps them get custody. So people are wondering why the ruthless litigator has agreed to represent egotistical tech billionaire Peter Tranboni against his wife.
This was a somewhat convoluted, dark story, with blackmail, stalking, intimidating messages and murders. Readers slowly realise that a) Esther is hardly the champion for women that she makes herself out to be and b) there’s something a bit off with this book.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture!
You've spent your whole life "fighting" for women. You've tried your hardest to protect them from all of the "horrible" men in this world. So, what do you do when a big wig man with far too much power starts to blackmail you into representing him? For Esther, it was clear. She had no choice. She had to represent him in order to protect her secrets and also the ones she loves, including herself.
Esther is 51. She is rigid, and she is cold. At times, she comes across as very hypocritical with a touch of entitlement. She lacks boundaries and tends to cross line after line.
Ellie Monago paints a very clear picture, and we are able to witness Esther become more and more unhinged as we get closer and closer to uncovering Esther's secrets.
The Divorce Lawyer is a slow paced who dunnit that keeps you on your toes.

A story packed with lies, secrets and manipulation
I was swept up in the plot and whilst i thought
I knew what was going to happen the end blew
me away.
I've never read a book by this author prior to this but i will be
actively looking out for her books based up this great read.
